I highly recommend all engaged couples to check out Kat for their wedding dance. She created a dance for us that was perfect for our skill level. She is an incredible teacher, and made learning easy.
Uttara is so friendly and professional. My fiancé and I had great time working with her on our wedding dance. She is able to come up with choreography for the music that we selected. The choreography is beautiful and fit the music perfectly. Glad that we made the right choice!
Gonzalo Zambrana has been my ballroom dance instructor for 16 years. I wanted to work with him because I knew he could teach all styles of partner dancing. He is a patient teacher and uses many different ways to explain and show exactly what he is trying to help his student learn. He quickly picks up on how an individual student learns and adjusts his teaching accordingly. He is also very knowledgeable about how the body works and how to protect it from injury.
The brilliance of Judicita as a wedding choreographer and dance teacher is best conveyed by my husband, Andrew: I am a man who is terrified of dancing. In six weeks, Judicita took my dancing from "baby giraffe immediately after birth" to, as our wedding guests commented, "surprisingly not terrible" and "actually kind of really impressive." I did not want to jump out of a window at any point in the teaching process. Judicita was professional, empathetic, and effective both as a teacher and a choreographer. I am extremely happy with the services she provided and would recommend her in a heartbeat. I proposed to a woman of Puerto Rican/Peruvian background. She lives to dance. I was informed, lovingly and with zero wiggle room, that our first dance at the wedding would involve me doing salsa. Growing up, the blackest nightmares I ever had involved me trying and failing to dancing in front of all of my friends and family. So, choking down the terror, my then-fiancée and I contracted with Judicita to teach us (i.e. me) a choreographed 3-4 minute salsa dance. Judicita is--and I cannot stress this enough--extremely good a teaching. She has all of the normal, fundamental dance instructor skills: she's a talented dancer herself, she's very good at motion analysis and mechanics, and she's able to define and adjust choreography on the fly. But where she truly excels is her raw ability to teach. Rather than the familiar and irritating "Do this. No, like this. Point your toe more. No, like THIS. Watch me AGAIN" style of fussy instruction you get at many salsa rooms, Judicita is genuinely and patiently focused on teaching you to move. "That was great!" says Judicita with what feels like genuine excitement. "If you hold your chin a little higher the spin will be tighter, but you've really got the basic motion down!". She continually explained the "why" behind the motions, and let us learn at our own pace without getting hung up on perfection. We learned exactly what we needed for our dance. More importantly, I didn't feel like I was going to throw up from stress during lessons. I could list out many other positives: her quick and precise decisions on choreography--always listening closely to what we liked and didn't like; her flexibility in dealing with our schedule; her constant positivity and professionalism. In the end, we successfully pulled of an amazing first dance that was exactly what my bride wanted. Was I actually a born dancer? An unpolished diamond in the rough whose amazing skills were simply waiting to be discovered? A modern-day Patrick Swayze, if you will? This is what I'll keep telling myself. But the truth is, the only reason I walked out onto the floor excited, confident, and prepared, instead of nauseous and terrified, is because Judicita guided me there every step of the way. She should be teaching movie stars and professional competition dancers, instead of awkward dudes hoping to impress their partners. But thank God she does.
I am having great time learning belly dancing. As a beginner it's tough but i will get the hang of it with practice.
The teaching is excellent. She has knowledge of many dances and keeps training herself to get better. She also does a good job of trying to fit you in on a schedule that works for you. Unfortunately, parking at night is a struggle. Biggest problem is the dance floor. It is cramped, which is problematical for the big, flowing dances.
I am a fitness consultant, barre instructor, and dance teacher who travels to you to help you achieve your personal goals!
I wanted to learn to dance in order to be more social and mingle. I choose BlacKatz Jam because i heard what an EXCELLENT instructor Chyna is. And she certainly is!! She's engaged and excited about teaching, knows ALL the moves, and had me dancing in real dance shoes from the very beginning. Now i go dancing at least once a week!!! Learning to dance with Chyna was the best training i could have imagined. I've now moved on from salsa to ballroom and can't wait to add that to my outings! If you really want to learn the moves, understand the music and be comfortable in your shoes, give BlacKatz a try. She really is wonderful!! Miriam Rudder
I'm a professional dancer, a classical ballet dancer, a modern dance and Pilates instructor, a choreographer, and a curriculum development instructor.
A belly dance instruction from an award-winning belly dancer in Baltimore, MD. I teach beginner to advanced level. I travel to studios in Catonsville and Fallston and can come to you anywhere in between. My classes focus on technique and encouraging self-confidence.
I am not keen on exercise, but I know how importnat it is, so I look for activities I can truly enjoy so that I'll stick with it. After a demo class on Middle East dancing (belly dancing to most of us), I decided this was for me! Mary made the classes a lot of fun. There was no pressure on those of us who were not the most coordinated or graceful dancers. Everyone was supportive and encouraged others when they did something well. We all got the colorful scarves with metal dangles and felt totally ready for the sultan's harem! The music was exotic and came from many countries, and that was a nice bonus I had not really considered. Best of all, this was great exercise. I was expecting to exercise the tummy muscles, and it did not surprise me that my legs also got workout, but I did not expect to feel the exercise in my arms. It is a full-body workout. I have a broken ankle right now and am not doing ANY exercise, but I miss my dance class and am eager to get back. I can't remember ever feeling that way about an exercise class!
The Ferocity Dance Company was founded in 2012 and focuses on Bachata Fusion pieces: mixing ballroom as well as other dance styles with Bachata to create a distinct viewpoint and style. The Ferocity Dance Company houses three other franchise bachata dance teams, and has also grown to have a competitive group that performs Bachata pieces to compete in National and International competitions. The mission statement of the Company is: Fierce Is For Everyone. It is our hope that through constant support for the dance community, friendly behavior on and off the dance floor, and a distinct respect for all dance styles, that we can create a safe environment for all to learn and enjoy dancing. Whomever wants to be family, can be. Most of the students that attend Ferocity are currently performers or striving performers. Students can be seen anywhere from once a week to seven times a week - it depends on how many teams and workshops they attend! We pride ourselves on offering teams that have different bachata styles so that our dancers learn new things, new styles, and new perspective!
