We hired Dynamic Reel Productions for a veteran's eulogy event and Ilya was very helpful, polite, and respectful. Most of our communication was done via email and we were satisfied with the over all results. I would hire them again if needed.

Working with DIM Productions was phenomenal. Coordinating beforehand was simple and straightforward, and during our event they were very accommodating and flexible to our specific requests and needs. They provided our pictures and video quickly after the event, and all the pictures turned out great. We are proudly sharing with friends and family. They also had video at our event, for which they provided an edited cut that captured everything that happened during our day. They even enhanced it in a few ways that we didn't see coming, and so we were appreciative of that. Overall, we had a tremendous experience and recommend DIM Productions to anyone and everyone. Very, very pleased!

Great experience working with Gethro. He was one of the few photographers in the area who could provide printed photos on the spot (with our company logo, no less) and we were very happy with his work.

From beginning till the end, Elmo showed excellent professionalism. I felt comfortable and trust with him from the first time I met him. He went beyond, and even went and saw the venue before the event to familiarize with the venue. He deserves 10 stars. He even did video of the event! I will use his services again. Please use his services. You will not be disappointed. I am very happy with Elmo. Thank you Elmo for making us feel special.

Malcholm did a great job for our event. He was very professional and finished our video faster than he had promised. The quality was beyond what we expected, it wasn't cheesy at all. I thought we were watching a real movie not just a video of our event!!!!

Eric was fabulous!! He volunteered to come to the rehearsal so he would know how and where to set up for the big day. I was very forthcoming about the fact that I wanted him to be ninja-like throughout the day, catching our special moments without being noticed. I am very camera-shy and didn't want this to interfere with our day. I have been to weddings where the videographers were in both the couples and the guests faces and that was not the experience we were looking for. He was fantastic and after seeing the video, I was very impressed with all the special moments he caught without us even knowing he was there!! Speaking of the video, we watched the highlight reel on our honeymoon and it brought us to tears - so special!! Also, Eric was very patient and compliant with us when we asked him to make some tweaks to our dvd. And all this was done in a very timely manner. Thank you Eric for making our day so special and for creating a wonderful video for us to cherish those memories!!

We hired Mark for my Indian engagement party, which included a couple's shoot. We had Mark do the photography and his wife do videography. Mark made sure to keep in touch regularly in the weeks leading up to the event. He would ask us ample of questions and he also researched the Hindu engagement ceremony to be able to better capture the important moments and we really happy with that. On the day of the event, they arrived exactly on time, in fact 30 mins earlier than we expected, giving enough time to set up the cameras, lighting and conduct a photoshoot before the event. Very professional attitude throughout the function. He was very hardworking, and my entire family noticed it. He's one of the only vendors at our event that we felt fully satisfied with. Same goes for his wife, who was taking videos. When the pictures came in, we were in complete love with them. Very high quality and artistic shots. Mark was able to capture the event beautifully and the editing was on point too. I had a bunch of suggestions for editing and Mark was nice enough to incorporate those ideas when editing some important pics, and they came out great. The video was okay too, Mark supplied us with 3 copies of a DVD with the main highlights of the event and also an SD card with basically everything they had captured. We wanted to make sure that the ceremony, speeches, performances, games and free-dancing elements of the night wouldn't go unnoticed and we didn't want to burden any of our close friends or family to take videos for the entire night. That's when we got the idea to hire a team of two photographers and have one of them do the video. Mark's wife is not a professional videographer so some videos were shaky and kept going out of focus but that's because they didn't have a professional video camera which we agreed on to begin with. Overall I have no complaints with this team and I will definitely be hiring Mark and his wife for other family events.

Kacey and her team were fantastic at our family reunion. They were courteous, responded well to all requests, arrived on time and were generally very professional. They were also very good value for the money. Leading up to the event, Kacey was very willing to work with me at the pace I set and even recommended other vendors that were equally professional. Thank you!

I hired Leslie to do a photo shoot of a company meeting I was hosting in Washington DC. Leslie was great. She was very easy to communicate with in advance - I was coming to an event from out of town and she made it really easy to work with her. She captured great moments and photos turn out really well. She also does a same day delivery of key shots and then had 100s of the event photos edited and ready for me within a week! I recommend Leslie for event photography and will use her if my company is in DC area again.

Cameron was so excellent to work with. He was incredibly professional. He was communicative and responded to messages quickly. He arrived at my event early and took care of setup. He's very knowledgeable, and he has a good eye. Working with him alleviated a lot of the stress of my event--he had everything in hand. He's also just an all-around nice guy. I'd recommend working with him; the quality is well worth the cost.

Brandon was really easy to work with and communicative with what we needed for our wedding day. Our wedding was almost 450 people and combined both Indian and Afghan traditions, and still Brandon was able to capture both cultures and the energy and excitement of our guests so beautifully. I'd definitely recommend Brandon to anyone looking for a wedding videographer in the area!

Intentional Visuals provided wedding videography services for our wedding this past June. We LOVE the highlight video Kevin edited for us and the raw footage. Kevin was very professional, affordable and did a great job. We are so happy we decided to capture video of the day! I've been to many weddings were the photographers and videographers seemed to be competing with each other for shots, and would be in the way if the guests. This was NOT the case at all with Intentional Visuals. In fact, several of my guests commented later how well our videoprapher and photographer worked together to coordinate shots, and many had thought that they worked together regularly, when in reality they were from 2 different companies and they hadn't met until they got to the venue for the wedding! We couldn't be happier with how things turned out; I highly recommend Intentional Visuals for wedding videography!!

This was my first introduction to using Thumbtack and it was really super positive. From the moment that Troy e-mailed me with his quote I suspected that he would be the videographer for me! I had a somewhat unusual videography request (to video a religious service but he had to do it in a very unobtrusive way). In his e-mails Troy gave lot of detail and asked some really good questions. The questions (and his answers to my questions) showed that he really know his craft. Also, at the last minute I asked that he think through how we might possibly livestream the event (so that an ill family member could "be there"), and he was very flexible in finding ways to help me make this happen. When I finally met Troy at the event he was everything I thought he would be. Very professional. He got there early and got everything set up without a hitch. Even though there was a lot going on, he just quietly went about his business. I just got the video back and it is terrific! Troy has been really nice about helping me figure out what format I need it in, and has sent it to me a couple of different ways. I really enjoyed meeting and working with Troy and would highly recommend him to others!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
