- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I worked in the field of human performance improvement and career development within large organizations for years. It was good and lucrative work, but something was missing. Then I heard a quote from Frederick Buechner to the effect that your life work lies at the intersection between your "deep gladness" and the world's "deep hunger." Well, my deep gladness comes from working closely with individuals, couples, and teams to help them identify and attain (or create) what they most want. And, clearly, people are desperately hungry for the joy that comes from finding their purpose, calling and, of course, deep and lasting love. Voila!
- What types of customers have you worked with?
In my career coaching and counseling, I help individuals identify their gifts, discern their callings, and locate (or create) the jobs or careers where they can finally do what they were born to do. We accomplish this through talking, analyzing past achievements, doing career testing, networking and, of course, concerted effort. But it's fun. My work with couples most often involves something called Imago Relationship Counseling. - What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Go with the winners. I hate to use a cliche, but in the world of coaching and counseling, you get what you pay for. Think about it: If a coach is willing to give themselves away cheaply, how will they get you to a place where you're earning everything you're worth? Don't be seduced by "cheap." Hold out for experienced, well-trained, well-educated, and EFFECTIVE.
