Overall, extremely happy with Nova movers. The movers, worked diligently, were polite and took great care of my belongings. Spoke with the manager about a concern I had and he was also fantastic. The only reason they did not receive 5 stars on my rating is because when they took some tape off my entertainment center, it took the top layer of wood with it. But they were so polite, apologized, and didn't hide it from me that I didn't care. Accidents happen, they are great people and will hire them again for sure. Thank you

Ali was a man of his word. His price was fair and competitive. I explained I had a very easy move from one apartment to another in the same building, he fit me in his busy schedule, arranged a time and showed up and did the move. Highly recommend using NYP Movers!

Excellent movers! The movers showed up right on time and were very pleasant and professional. They were incredibly careful, yet fast, when packing up all of our items. They asked us exactly where each piece of furniture or box should go in our new apartment, and even helped us set up the bed frame. These guys are professionals at what they do. We were so pleased with our move!

FANTASTIC! WOULD USE AGAIN AND AGAIN. (#&$)#! Bekins is the worst. My Bekins A-1 movers, 1511 Farm Creek Dr, VA 703-491-1512 were absolute merd! I was told they couldn't get my couch to the 2nd floor due to it being too large. I called Charlies and they were to move it up and over the 2nd floor balcony. They immediate got it up the stairs with only two of them and no scratches! Very professional. I wish I used them instead of Bekins!!!!!

We moved 8 days before Christmas 2016. We had movers come on a Friday to pack and load us. It was a two day drive to our new home with a baby. The movers arrived Monday morning to off load us get everything placed. (THIS WAS A THREE DAY TURNAROUND) We had a second drop off at a storage unit. The moving guys were as professional and curious as it gets. Rose was great, and this move was planned and excuted to profection. Highly recommend if you need honest, reliable movers. Zero damage.

We used Skyride to move my daughter from Arlington to another Arlington apartment. Everything went as expected and the crew showed up right on time. Ali was a real gentleman and we would not hesitate to use them again. I think they are very competitive with other local movers.

I recommend NK Movers, after being cancelled on by another one here on Thumbtack, they showed me professionalism by sending me a contract and calling me every step of the way. We both had some issues with timing but we were able to work together and keep each other informed. In light of my building manager being irresponsible and insensitive, they kept their cool, and helped me remain stress-free, i feel that they cared about making this move as great as possible. Will definitely recommend!

I was scheduled to have the movers come at 9 but received a call at 830 that they were already at my place! I had two guys helping me move my heavier stuff and they were wonderful. They were efficient and very professional. They got everything I needed to be moved taken care of and some extra that I thought I would have to do myself. I would definitely recommend Relocation Solutions to anyone needing help with movers!

I had a wonderful experience with Moving With US. They were on time, very professional, and easy to work with. I really appreciated their flexibility - we ran into some snags with the loading dock and elevator at our destination, and they took it in stride and made it work. They were very timely and things got done quicker than we expected. The cost is slightly higher than other movers in the area (still nowhere near the highest end of the quotes I got), but it is more than worth it for the excellent quality of the work. We will definitely be contacting Moving With US for our next move.

VKH movers were early arriving to our job. They dealt with complicated requests and tricky turns and extraordinarily heavy furniture. They were very conscientious about the walls and extremely polite. Couldn't recommend them more highly. Thank you!

Gary arrived at the peak of a terrible storm but that didn't stop him from getting loaded up. He was polite and professional throughout his whole time here. He responded promptly to my texts and updated me as he approached the drop off destination. After the drop off, he sent me pictures showing that the items in fact had been unloaded at designated destination. It was a pleasure working with Gary and I would recommend him to anyone needing a mover.

Five stars! Captain Movers/Handyman negotiated an agreeable price, showed up on time, and patiently worked with me to move and organize my storage items in another unit. Although I had misjudged the amount of work, I gladly paid over the agreed price, for a job well done. The movers were professional and efficient. I will likely hire them again.

My two movers showed up and gave 100% the entire time they were there! Would definitely recommend this company to my friends. The only negative I have is that on Thumbtack and my responses the price states $89 and yet when I went to website is say $99. When I asked about it, I was told that the price they quoted was wrong and they still charged me the $99. They should either change the price on here or honor the price they advertised.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.
