Yehor and Daniel did an excellent job on the move. They arrived early and waited patiently until the freight elevator was available. Yehor explained the process and my options. Yehor is obviously an experienced and conscientious mover. They took their time and treated my property with care and respect. I had to change the location that I was storing my furniture and they took it in stride. They did an excellent job in making something that is very stressful (moving), a little less stressful. I look forward to using Name Your Price Movers for my next move! Jenine

I contacted Lewis Piano Movers after vetting their reference to Steinway Gallery. Steinway Gallery couldn't say enough good about them. So I retained them to move a 110-year-old family heirloom Bechstein parlor grand from McLean, VA (DC metro area) to Versailles, KY (Lexington area). Negotiations and communications with Van before, during and after the move were professional and smooth, and the movers at both ends were cheerful, polite, competent and swift. I recommend them and would use them again.

It was a 2 day full service pack and move. They provided all the materials needed to move a 5 bedroom home long distance. I was pleased they didn't have a long costly process of shuttling my stuff from one truck to a tractor trailer. All of my stuff stayed on the orginal truck that came to my home. And they where able to deliver the load to my drop off destination in South Carolina the next morning on time as promised. This is the only company I have ever moved with that has provided actual next services on a move this size. Everything was wrapped and packed properly as I would expect from professional movers. A-1 Moving Company as my endorsement as top notch movers.

We had Zebna movers assist us with our move. We had to move out of a family members home and also get the majority of our furniture out of a storage unit. They were quick and helpful. When they completed the job they made sure that we did not need any additional help with set up.

Great Nation was absolutely perfect. I initially reached out on Thumbtack which was the first time I had used Thumbtack services. I then sent an email to them directly with the exact amount of stuff I had Davis come out for an In-Home and I had a very reasonable quote within hours. Rose is one of the most professional moving consultants and makes you a "Valued Client". We had a FULL PACK SERVICES for our move and they delivered quality service. I would highly recommend this service to anyone, time is important to us and they made this stress and headache free. Daniel called me about 15 minutes before arriving the day of and they even arrived a few minutes early before our scheduled time. Everything was flawless, they wrapped my furniture with care, carried everything carefully through our home, protected the floors at both locations. The moving team was even kind enough to help with suggestions on how to lay out the furniture to maximize spacing. A true professional, thank you for making my move so easy. I will absolutely use Great Nation moving in the future when I move. 나는이 회사를 매우 추천한다. Douglas

I had a great experience with Relocation Services. Gregory was very proactive in communication. Bruce and Marvin who unloaded my POD, were lovely gentlemen who showed up early, worked efficiently, and went above and beyond trying to figure out how to get my too-large sofa through a too-small space.

I have moved almost every year for the past four years and this was my first time hiring professionals. I was so nervous to do so because I've heard so many horror stories about hidden fees, total costs, etc., but I really needed help this time around and decided to start looking. First off -- thank GOD for Thumbtack! The first few places I called were close to $1,000 to move my roommate and I out of our tiny 800 sq ft, 2BR/1BA apartment. Thumbtack sent me four quotes in mere minutes, Moving With US being one of them. I was pleasantly surprised at their pricing and really appreciated how promopy Alex called soon after submitting the initial quote. The whole booking process was straightforward and simple and I felt confident that we'd found a respectable moving company with reasonable prices and without hidden fees. The day of the move, one of the movers sat down and wakes me through the process including additional packing options which would cost extra. I politely declined and explained we were trying to save money so we'd forego any extras and stick to the quoted price. I was so pressed how quickly they packed up the van and the way they loaded everything in a way that kept fragile items out of harm's way. The move ended up taking slightly longer than planned because my new apartment was a split level up another flight of stairs (not to mention the unseasonably hot and humid weather!) but they provided me with a discount that my roommate and I felt comfortable with. All in all, Moving With US did a fantastic job and I'll hire them again in a heartbeat!

All Season Pros.

My deal with them was pretty clear, affordable and everything was done according to it. I was moved from Maryland to Virginia in 4 days for a price that was completely affordable and reasonable. The work and the enthusiasm the movers showed was incredible. I am very happy with the service and the outcome and I will definitely use their services again.

GNG Services was great! I recently put in a patio and unearthed a lot of dirt, rocks and even some pavers. I (and my neighbors) desperately needed it removed from my driveway. Gary was very professional and pleasant to work with and he was reasonably priced. I’d definitely hire him again!

My husband and I were relocating from MD to NC and we contacted Pick up movers to relocate us. Pick up movers gave us an extremely reasonable quote and we hired them for a Full Service Move. They came and packed and protected all of our items in one day and came the next day to load and deliver. What we really liked about their service was the consistency with the workers. The same guys were used throughput the entire move. The guys were professional with lots of experience. We suggest anyone looking for moving services to use Pick up movers!

I hired M&M Moving & Hauling to move larger pieces of furniture out of my grandparents' home. There were a couple of issues with the scheduling where they had miscalculated the time needed for the move scheduled just before mine, but Marvin was up front about it and worked with me to find a mutually agreeable time for my move. There was also a problem with how they placed a couple of the items within the storage unit and I think they were just hot and tired by that point, but we were able to resolve the issue. As I had items moved into a storage unit, I don't know how all of them fared from the move, but they seemed to do a pretty good job with packing it in the truck and making sure items that I wasn't able to wrap were covered during the drive. They also provided a very competitive flat rate that did not contain any hidden fees. I really liked that I knew exactly what I would be paying, but it did take a couple of messages to figure out what was included in the cost. Overall, they did a good job and did it quickly and efficiently. I would hire them again.

It has been several months since I hired Bellhops for the job but I came back to leave my review because we were so impressed and happy with their service. They were very professional and were in contact with us through the whole move, updating us as they went. They completed our move from a third story apartment to a one story house in a little less time than they estimated (and we were only charged for the actual time they took) and nothing was damaged, which is a first for us in the many times we've moved. They were very considerate of handling all our items and took care to place boxes and furniture in the rooms we wanted them in, and were careful not to leave any mess in our new home. Would highly recommend them for any service!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
