I am very happy with KT's services and will be working with her again in the future. I had been looking for help with interior decorating but was scared-off by many designers/decorators that charge large fees, are looking for big projects, and come off as snobby. I was searching for someone that is down to earth and has a flexible and economical range of services. After searching for many years, I was lucky to be matched with KT on thumbtack. I am a novice/untrained decorator and have a good base of colors and elements in my condo but was looking for help/advice in tying things together with color and accessories. KT was just the right fit for me. We scheduled a 2 hour consultation and she arrived promptly and with great energy. She is incredibly down to earth and listened intently to the areas I needed help with and where I was feeling stuck. She provided excellent advice and within the two hours of our consultation I knew exactly what I wanted to do and am so excited to get started. She also offered helpful tips on vendors and painting techniques as well as placement of art and mirrors. KT's services are accessible to all price ranges and she has an incredible personality and ability to listen. We'll be calling her again when we buy our next house!

I have to take issue with the review posted here by Jennifer C. KT recently completed a five-month design project for my condo and she was not only a great designer, she was a true professional and joy to work with. Before beginning the project I asked KT for a few references. She gave me the contact information for seven former clients - they ranged from a young couple just getting started in their first house with a very small budget to people who I would guess spent more money redoing their living room than I spent on my whole condo. I contacted all seven hoping to hear back from two or three within a short window. EVERY single one of them either called or emailed me, or both!, within 24 hours and they all said the exact same thing - you will not only love what she does for your home, you'll love working with her. All of them went on and on about how highly they thought of her. I almost wondered whether these people were for real...but after working with KT I can tell you first-hand that they were absolutely right.
She was both creative and resourceful, identifying the things that were worth the extra money and the items that we could frankly get at IKEA that would be just fine. She regularly showed me different versions or ways of doing something and never pressured me to go above my budget. (Full disclosure: I went over but that was my choice.) KT also hired the carpenter, painter, flooring contractors, etc., that worked on my condo. They were all folks she had clearly done multiple projects with before. Not only was she professional and ALWAYS on time (not something I can say about myself) but she made sure all those she hired were professional and on time. And when they didn't finish a project to my (or her) liking, she always made sure it was redone...and never was that an extra cost to me.
I'd like to be able to include a negative trait here about KT so that anyone reading this review wouldn't think I was just blowing smoke but I'm not going to make up something that isn't true. I would hire KT again for any design project and I would HIGHLY recommend her to anyone who was looking for an interior decorator and/or someone to manage a design project for their home.
It's unfortunate that Jennifer didn't ask for references from people who have actually worked with KT. I would have told her how many times KT worked around my schedule, how often she went above and beyond to make the process easier for me, and that she was one of the most honest and up front people I've ever met. I love, love the new look of my place and would be happy to show anyone considering KT as their designer my before and after photos - and to answer any questions about what it was like to work with her. Add me to her already long list of very happy customers.

If you are looking for an interior designer and decorator, I have an excellent recommendation. KT Wilder is one of the most creative, innovative, fair, and fun people to engage with. Not only has that been my experience, but also the experience of two of my best friends in the Washington, DC area. KT has the unique ability to mesh her own signature and more modern style with each client’s individual taste – and that is when the magic happens. My friends and I all have different styles and KT had the wonderful ability to work with each of our tastes and personalities. She will graciously push you to consider a style or direction you might not have originally chosen, but won’t push too far. She also knows where and when to accelerate or decelerate economic investments. As a result, clients come out with an amazing finished product.
For example, I had several pieces of furniture and artwork that had been in my family for some time. I wanted to try and incorporate at least some of these pieces into a newly designed, more modern, and small condo. KT was excellent in helping with this – offering suggestions, modernizing some of the older pieces, and beautifully bringing it all together with my new furnishings and updates.
There are so many things that I appreciated about working with KT – I could go on and on about these. I will mention just two here. First, KT is passionate about wanting you as the client to be happy and satisfied. She will try and move mountains to ensure that this can happen. We all know in these types of projects that things can and will not always go as planned. She will be your advocate, she will ensure your needs are met and that everything is completed to an A-plus standard. The second thing that is particularly noteworthy about KT is that she is very competitive from a financial standpoint. I think her rates are very fair. I was never caught by surprise on any billing and she passed along any savings she got as a designer to me.
If you select KT as a designer, you would be so lucky. Not only is she incredibly talented and you will love the outcome of everything she touches, you will just adore working with her. She is the best – all the way around!

I have nothing but great things to say about my experience working with KT, who is creative, fun and the hardest worker in the business.
I was pretty vague about my design goals when we first met-- I'd wanted to re-do my second bedroom and maybe put some art on the walls. KT rolled with my vague encouragement. In the end, we replaced nearly every piece of furniture in my main living area, painted several rooms, installed a backsplash, added wallpaper, etc. etc. That's because, at every stage, KT showed such creativity and dedication to transforming our place, had so many ideas, and seemingly never stopped working, that I not only felt comfortable continuing, but was excited about having access to such a first-rate designer.
As Genevieve noted, KT was also willing to find great pieces from high- and low-end sources-- we spent one afternoon shopping in the Home Goods (owned by Marshall's/TJ Maxx) where we purchased a shabby chic $40 mirror. KT then re-painted it, making it look as though it were a $600 mirror.
I learned a ton from her, and every home I live in in the future will benefit from this new knowledge. Did I also mention she's hilarious?
Hire KT. Your home will be better for it, and you'll love the time you spent with her.

We highly recommend KT Wilder for anyone who wants assistance in adding to the Beatty, elegance and comfort of their house. We retained KT to assist us with the redesign of our Georgetown (Washington, DC) house and were VERY pleased with her services. She has a flair for color and design. kT is an outstanding professional. she was a joy to work and stayed within our budget.
