Winstead communicated with me from the time I booked him to the time he did my makeup. He is very professional and courteous. He arrived early with all his tools and did an excellent job with my face (bridal makeup), and also did makeup for my mom-in-law and sis-in-law. I looked gorgeous in all my wedding photos and my skin looked radiant in the sunshine (it was an outdoor wedding). I asked for lightweight and natural-looking makeup and that's what I got. I'd definitely hire him again! You won't go wrong if you hire Winstead for your makeup needs!

ERICA IS EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL,PATIENT, AND KIND. She has always kept her word with me as well as with clients that I have referred to her. Everyone that I know raves about her skills, and shes highly recommended in the MD DC VA area. Another important factor is that Erica is always on time. I have seen her do bridal faces, consultations, teach classes to even doing makeup for beauty pagents in which the contestant won for *Most beautiful Smile*. Erica will definitely paint your face and make you feel even more beautiful than you though you'd ever feel before. She also has a large variety of makeup which gears towards all skin types and shades. For example, I have sensitive skin, so each time she applies my makeup its very light and doesn't even feel like its there..all while lasting throughout the day. I highly recommend Erica to anyone that may feel skeptical about breaking out or not feeling their best after makeup has been applied. You'll definitely be getting more than your money is worth.

At first I had thought the page was fake but after calling her and having a discussion, she explained to me about her makeup experience (which she has a lot of!). I had canceled due to financial issues and got my makeup done at the mall. Which did not compare to the miracle ended up working on my face! My friend had kept her appointment with Charlie, so as soon as I walked through the door she had offered to fix my makeup for free. I did end up giving her what I had but she transformed my face completely! She is a perfectionist when it comes to her craft and I could not possibly be any happier with the final product. My friend and I got complements the whole night at prom and we still get asked who did our makeup that night! Her prices are amazing for what she does. BOOK HER!

She is a makeup guru. Amazingly talented and precise with her work. She was able to replicate the exact look we went for during trial, I was impressed! I've had many artists apply makeup on me but Mahnaz definitely set apart with her knowledge on the brand and colors, I was able to learn so much. She doesn't have a makeup look preference, unlike most artists, and only works with your comfort zone and from there will choose a specific look. I would strongly suggest Mahnaz to anyone who wants to look as feel like a million bucks

I took a makeup class for myself to learn how to do my makeup the right way and I am so happy that I did. I learned a ton of useful, practical every day tips that now I feel for more secure when I apply makeup. It was a great time and well worth the money.

I am a professional headshot photographer and I hired Renata for for a shoot when my regular makeup artist was unavailable. I was given very short notice that I would need a makeup artist for an upcoming session. Fortunately, Renata was more than willing to fill my need for an experienced makeup artist. I was apprehensive at first because of my past experiences with unfamiliar makeup artists, but my apprehension quickly faded once she began working. She had a great personality, her work was impeccable, she didn't overlook small details that some makeup artists generally do, and most importantly my client was thrilled with the final result. I highly recommended Renata to anyone needing a professional, highly skilled makeup artist and I will definitely be using her again, maybe even on a more permanent basis.

I've had the pleasure of using Ms. Davis' services on two special occasions. She arrived on time and was ready to apply her makeup skills on me. I shared my desired look and she hit it out of the park both times. She took her time and made certain that my makeup was flawless. I received many compliments, Needless to say, Ms. Davis is now my permanent professional makeup artist. As a matter of fact, I just booked her to do my makeup for a photo shoot. Love her.

I met Rae at the hardest time in my life about 6 years ago. I had an accident that left me with a traumatic brain injury so I wasn't able to do many of the things that I was so used to anymore even my makeup specially that I had only one good hand working fine. So I met this amazing woman who made me feel that everything was possible again even with one hand ( since my left hand wasn't moving at the time) she came to my house several times and gave me some makeup classes and made me feel comfortable and confident I can't say it was easy but I did it and I know it's because all the support she gave me. We've became more than makeup buddies today she is a good friend of mine and I thank God for the day that I walk into her and met her because she completely changed me, my recovery my confidence and believe that even having the issue that I have I still can do so much more. Rae thank you so much for everything you've done for me and I love you. Ally De Jesus

    About

The reason that I standout then most Makeup Artist, is that I tend to make the individual flawless without looking caked up, while maintaining a healthy glow, and picture perfect ready. I also make sure that the client know that if there are any photos taken, the flash of the camera will wash out the look of their makeup, so what they see on their face in the mirror, will look differently on the picture. So when shopping for a makeup artist, they should do a trial run to see how their makeup look with a flash.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

      • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
      • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
      • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
      • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
      • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
      • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
      • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

      • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
      • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
      • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
      • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
      • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much should you tip a wedding makeup artist?

Wedding makeup artists ensure you and your bridal party are looking your best bright and early on your wedding day. Tipping a wedding makeup artist for their hard work is standard practice, and is also greatly appreciated. A tip of 15 percent to 20 percent of the total bill is appropriate. You may consider tipping extra if the makeup artist or someone on their team went above and beyond — for example, squeezing in Aunt Martha at the last second or redoing a flower girl’s hair free of charge after she dunked it in the fountain.

A gratuity is a reflection of a job well done, so if the wedding makeup artist was late, did a shoddy job or didn’t provide all the services you negotiated, you are not required to tip. Talk with your wedding makeup artist prior to the event to ask how they prefer payment and gratuity to be handled. Can you pay by credit card the day of the event and include a tip then? Do you need to pay in cash the day of the event? Find out ahead of time how to manage payment for services so you can be prepared with cash or credit cards as needed. Even better, delegate the task of payment to someone in your bridal party so you can just enjoy your day.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
