We were very pleased with John Rutter at AAC services! He did an outstanding job of straightening uneven cabinets in our kitchen & installing handles, assembling a bunk bed & installing a chandelier. John is very conscientious about his work. I would not hesitate to hire AAC services for our next project!

Brandon did a fantastic job painting our kitchen cabinets, a fiddly job - he was attentive to every detail with care. His communications were always prompt and professional, and he got us into the schedule earlier than we had expected. Cleanup was impeccable and he billed us precisely what he had estimated from a few pictures - I would call him again for any work around the house. Super good experience.

Paul installed a combination of older cabinets and new supplemental cabinets in my kitchen at a very reasonable price. Although not in the original scope of work, he also did some plumbing and electrical work. When I called later for some minor adjustments, he responded quickly. I would recommend him for any general home improvements.

We can't give enough kudos working with Jeff & are thrilled to have found him! He's helped repair our century old home with drywall, painting and minor updates. He's installed new and moved the current upper cabinets a few inches to accommodate a modern refrig & microwave in our guest suite. And list goes on. We're looking forward to his help with our future projects. Thanks Jeff!

I hired Eric and his team for a bathroom remodel converting a half bathroom/laundry room into a full bathroom and a separate laundry room extending into our garage. His price was competitive with other contractors but his confidence and knowledge got him the job. From day one I knew we hired the right company for the job as they got here early and were flat out throughout the project. The craftsmanship was professional and they didn't cut any corners. The end product was the bathroom of our dreams fully tiles and with a beautiful frameless glass door for the shower. In fact he did the extra little things like replacing entire cast iron sewage pipe to pvc to endure we don't have a problem in the future. They exceeded our expectations so much that we hired them for 5 extra days to help with other projects around the house like new wood flooring, new cabinets, new tile ceiling, updating plumbing features, updating electric and even some hardscaping work in our pool area. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for work fine to their property and will be more than happy to be a reference.

Dennis was great! Very professional and great to work with. We had him put in new kitchen cabinets and 6 panel doors. He did an excellent job for a very good price. He did work beyond what was contracted and did not charge anything additional. He started within a week of hiring him and finished in less than a week. I would definitely hire him again!

Added trim to my cabinets to finish them off, made a beautiful bannister and rail for my upstairs! No job too big or small for Frank! Very reasonable quality workmanship!

Bill rebuilt the exterior doors to our basement and did a beautiful job. He added rubber seals to the inside of the doors so the steps to the basement stay completely dry. We highly recommend hiring Bill for cabinet making and carpentry projects/repairs you may need.

Mr. Marshall does commercial and residential jobs. I have utilized Mr. Marshall’s services for many projects including plumbing, carpentry, and heat pump problems. In my kitchen he has installed a dishwasher, stove, new sink and faucet, a water filter system, a vinyl floor and also painted and caulked the walls. He also replaced two water damaged doors with new handmade cabinet doors that matched the existing doors perfectly. In my bathroom he installed a new vanity, faucet, toilet, medicine cabinet, custom shelving, a shower rod, and done repairs to the tub and shower faucet. Other jobs he has done for me include installing a central vac which I love, replaced and relocated my water heater to a more suitable location in my home, completed a beautiful tile job in my entry way and deck repair. Mr. Marshall is skilled with his work and is a problem solver. He has been able to complete difficult jobs that other contractors weren’t willing or able to complete for me and also for friends who I referred him to. He is skilled at dealing with inspectors, permitting and is able to cut through the red tape involved in dealing with county organizations. As a single woman I trust him to do the work I need fairly and correctly and I have referred him to several friends who have also become repeat customers. He has done basement waterproofing, well/septic repairs, and ran gas lines for friends of mine. I highly recommend his services

Leon installed an entertainment cabinet in my basement that was absolutely the best I've seen. When we have company over, the first thing they ask about it as that cabinet. He did a fabulous job. Not only did he build the cabinet, but he also installed an entertainment package, speakers, etc... Another added touch was the wall art. It just totally amazed me and my husband when he finished. He explained everything he was doing and totally kept us in the loop, but to see the final job - I couldn't have imagined. We get so many compliments on the cabinet and the wall art because it is so different than what people have seen in other homes. I refer Leon all the time. I believe it took about a week for him to get everything done and we were so pleased. Needless to say, my husband has found his second home in the basement.

Jeff and his team did a fabulous job re-modeling my boys bathroom, The original job only involved a tub to shower conversion and re-tiling the floor. In the process, we ended up re-doing the whole bathroom including new granite vanities, cabinets, lights and changing all the hardware. Trivett Construction did a very nice job and my kids are very pleased with their new bathroom. Jeff and his team conducted themselves in a very professional manner and showed up on time for the most part, except when they needed to pick-up supplies. The whole re-modeling job took approximately one week to complete. We will surely utilize their services again for other projects around the house.

Shane did a very good job building me a cabinet to put my microware on and to store cookbooks. The cabinet had to be the same height as my present kitchen cabinets and it does and it even is on wheels so it can be moved. I would certainly use him again and his price was very fair. Very easy to reach and he returned calls/texts.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
