Introduction: I am a writer-editor with 20 years of professional experience, mostly with investment management companies. I also spent several years as a local newspaper reporter. I am particular about the English language and have greater confidence in readers than those who believe that every communication must be short and simple to have a chance of being read. I believe, in contrast, that ideas expressed well will find their audience. Brevity is a laudable goal, but it should not be the only goal.
