I hired Thomas to do a floor to ceiling custom built in with a window seat. I had provided incorrect measurements originally but he did an onsite visit prior to beginning his work and was able to adjust all measurements accordingly and make a gorgeous built in piece of furniture. We realized that he was more adept to handle many of our projects that we had hired other contractors do so we hired him to do additional work and to redo some work that had already been done. He stuck to the schedule that we set forth, was great at communicating, was extremely helpful at assessing situations and providing recommendations. We are very grateful and appreciative for the work that he did on the built in, our cabinet installation our vinyl floor installation, and many other small things around the house! Thanks to Thomas many aspects of our home will be wonderful. If you would like a verbal testimony please feel free to ask Thomas for my number. Once everything is done I hope to come back and add some more photos.

Kevin installed two bathroom light fixtures and one was particularly tricky to install. He did amazing job and I couldn’t be happier. I also had Kevin look at some upcoming project ideas: refinishing kitchen cabinets and putting in backsplash tile. His quotes are reasonable and fair. He really knows his stuff. I’m looking forward to having Kevin do more work for me in the future.

Dan did multiple things in my house. He removed a large amount of junk from my basement and outside yard, he fixed some electrical issues I was having, he hung a cabinet, he fixed two bi-fold doors, fixed a running toilet and fixed a minor leak. I would highly recommend Dan to anyone looking for junk removal or home maintenance activities.

My 6 year old fell backwards while reclining in our antique host dining chair. To our dismay, the chair broke in 4 pieces including a diagonal break across one leg. Michael schedule a prompt evaluation on a Saturday at our home which could not have been more convenient. Our conversations led me to think that he had a lot of experience working with wood and that he really enjoyed working on antiques, but could repair any wood furniture pieces. We schedule a full repair the following Saturday and I could not believe my eyes when he was through. Michael not only fixed the chair, but he reinforced the breaks with nails and pins so that it never happens again and left the chair so beautifully touched up so that it still looks like the antique that it is. i wish i could post before and after photos because one would ever know the chair was so damaged. Mike was not only prompt and highly skilled, but clean (I did not have to clean up after him), courteous and a great value for the work. While at my home, he even agreed to fix a cabinet for me that had lost its knob and also left me with a permanent fix. I could not recommend him more highly and plan to call upon him again if we need his help in the future.

Mr. Marshall does commercial and residential jobs. I have utilized Mr. Marshall’s services for many projects including plumbing, carpentry, and heat pump problems. In my kitchen he has installed a dishwasher, stove, new sink and faucet, a water filter system, a vinyl floor and also painted and caulked the walls. He also replaced two water damaged doors with new handmade cabinet doors that matched the existing doors perfectly. In my bathroom he installed a new vanity, faucet, toilet, medicine cabinet, custom shelving, a shower rod, and done repairs to the tub and shower faucet. Other jobs he has done for me include installing a central vac which I love, replaced and relocated my water heater to a more suitable location in my home, completed a beautiful tile job in my entry way and deck repair. Mr. Marshall is skilled with his work and is a problem solver. He has been able to complete difficult jobs that other contractors weren’t willing or able to complete for me and also for friends who I referred him to. He is skilled at dealing with inspectors, permitting and is able to cut through the red tape involved in dealing with county organizations. As a single woman I trust him to do the work I need fairly and correctly and I have referred him to several friends who have also become repeat customers. He has done basement waterproofing, well/septic repairs, and ran gas lines for friends of mine. I highly recommend his services

My wife & I are 1st time home owners, and our deck was hit hard by this winter’s harsh weather. Rotting wood, chipping paint, and dirt/fungus build up was looking bad. Thanks to Tyler, our deck was completely refinished with a HIGH attention to detail. It looks and feels brand new and was done at the BEST price in less than 2 weeks from when we first contacted Tyler. Tyler treated this project like it was his own deck, and that is a rare thing to find. Incredible work! In the past year we’ve worked with many electricians, carpenters, plumbers, and landscapers working on our new house. Tyler stands out as being above and beyond the best at communication and punctuality. He got started on the job quickly, and always gave us updates as to when he would be working and when the project would be complete. He made sure we knew exactly what was going on, and gave us lots of insightful suggestions and options on how to get the best results. Tyler is experienced and knowledgeable, and worked with high quality Benjamin Moore exterior stain. Other contractors I quoted just planned on using a cheaper exterior paint that would’ve degraded much more quickly. Tyler did extensive prep work to make sure our deck was ready to paint. He ensured there was proper draining, cleared out hidden dirt between the deck boards, properly addressed and filled all the gaps and cracks, and better secured the railing and privacy fence. Other contractors I talked to just planned a simple power wash and paint, which would not have been enough to give our deck a several more years of life. I look forward to hiring Tyler again in the future to help us with our various projects around the house. His depth of knowledge, attention to detail, and prompt communication makes him easily the best contractor we’ve worked with. If you have a project you need done with quality and a high attention to detail, my wife and I highly recommend Tyler!

Jeff installed my new kitchen cabinets and I love it ! Jeff does excellent work and is an expert in the business. The thing that I liked most about Jeff was that he was knowledgeable about my particular cabinets, and he let me know beforehand about any adjustments that needed to be made. This helped to keep an even pace and flow to the job. The job was completed in a timely fashion, and I couldn't be happier !

Jeff and his team did a fabulous job re-modeling my boys bathroom, The original job only involved a tub to shower conversion and re-tiling the floor. In the process, we ended up re-doing the whole bathroom including new granite vanities, cabinets, lights and changing all the hardware. Trivett Construction did a very nice job and my kids are very pleased with their new bathroom. Jeff and his team conducted themselves in a very professional manner and showed up on time for the most part, except when they needed to pick-up supplies. The whole re-modeling job took approximately one week to complete. We will surely utilize their services again for other projects around the house.

I had the privilege of having KAG Urban Mill help my family and I with what would normally be a tedious home rehab project, to a home makeover project that felt as though we were involved (yet never in the way!) from inception, design and with every decision along the way. On time, and eager to not only finish the job, but excited about the process; KAG Urban Mill made what could be a tedious Custom woodwork job (cabinet rebuild with custom crown and base molding in my kitchen and dining areas) to a creative and eco-friendly choice from top to bottom!

We offer new hardwood flooring installation for the following: • Existing hardwood floor refinishing • Custom stair treads and stair tread refinishing • Laminate floor installation • Resin floor coatings on restaurant kitchen floors and walk-ins and basement and garage floors • Carpets • Furniture refinishing My name is Justin Keeler, and I built this business on quality workmanship. My main goal is to treat every homeowner as an individual so each customer gets exactly what they have pictured in their mind. I have 12 years of carpentry experience, including framing, custom stairways and railings, cabinet making, remodeling kitchens and baths, and finishing of basements and additions. I have worked for many different companies, which taught me a lot along the way. I learned a lot on what not to do, but also got some good out of it as well. Many of the companies I have worked for cut corners, did sloppy work, and used the cheap way out just to get a buck, which made me want to open this business -- so that I can give the homeowners quality work which they deserve, and what they are paying for. I take extreme pride in my work and make sure everything is perfect so that when the job is done, the smile on the customers face lasts forever! I aim to please. Next time you want a floor done, call me for a free estimate. You might be one of those lucky people who have the chance to walk all over us!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

    Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

    • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
    • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
    • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
    • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

    How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
