Hi everyone! I must say that I was very impressed with Ms. K. Artisme face painting designs. She was wonderful and believe me my twin girls were besides themselves. They loved the makeup and I enjoyed watching them and the other kids at their birthday party. I planned on using her during my Halloween batch. You will not be disappointed!

Emily is very professional, has great punctuality, knows her makeup, and has a great personality as well and is very easy going which is very calming to a bride. She did the makeup for my wife and I on our wedding day in two separate locations. and she far exceeded what we ever thought we'd look like. We would highly recommend Emily to anyone. If we ever need a makeup artist in the future we will be hiring Emily for her excellent services again.

I hired Emily with Love n Glow to do the wedding makeup for my bridesmaids and I and I am so glad that I did! I had my makeup trial with Emily the morning of my bridal shower so she made me look beautiful for that event and I got endless compliments on my makeup. She even traveled to my apartment to do the trial which made that hectic day a little easier! I had an early morning wedding so we started doing hair and makeup at 5am and Emily was there ready to go when we needed her. Worrying about if and when vendors will get there on the day of the wedding is not something you want to deal with and even having met Emily only once before, I knew she was reliable and had total trust in her being there on time even with such an early call time. One of the big warnings I got with wedding makeup is that some makeup artists apply makeup so heavily that you don't look like yourself. Emily chose such beautiful shades for our makeup and had such a nice balance so that my bridesmaids and I looked AMAZING, especially in the photos, but so natural that you don't look and say, wow, they have a ton of makeup on. A lot of the girls in the party, myself included, don't wear a lot of makeup on an everyday basis and she was still able to pull off this professional look of natural beauty. My mom owns a beauty salon so I can be very picky when it comes to my hair and makeup, but I wouldn't have wanted anyone else doing my makeup on my wedding day. I am so happy I found Emily and hope I have an excuse to have her do my makeup again in the future. :)

Debbie was early and managed to fit an extra girl in for makeup the day of my wedding. She did a perfect job on us. The makeup for each girl suited their style perfectly. I wanted a natural look and she did an amazing job at making me look like a beautiful bride without applying a ton of makeup. I still looked like me, but better. We made fast friends and we were all sorry to see her go when makeup was done. I 120% recommend her, and will be hiring her again in the future!

She was also extremely professional! I will definitely be using her services again when we come back to the area for vacation next year.

Marissa was amazing! We did a hair trial a few weeks before my wedding, and it turned out exactly how I imagined - beautiful and elegant! The morning of my wedding, she arrived on-time and with everything she needed to get my hair styled perfectly. She set my hair first, and I then had my makeup done while my niece had her hair styled. She styled my hair into a perfect sleek undo after my makeup was completed and it was perfection. My hair style lasted all throughout the day and if I hadn't taken it out when I arrived home after the reception, would have lasted overnight and into the next day! No touchups needed at all after Marissa completed the style very early the morning of my wedding. She also did my niece's hair - which was to-die-for! She looked adorable and had no trouble getting a 3 year old to sit still for the 20 minutes needed to style her hair. Marissa put me at ease throughout the entire process and it was the most stress-free part of the whole day! If I ever need another special occasional hair style, I will definitely book Marissa! I cannot recommend her enough, as she made a very special day even happier. Thanks Marissa for the great hair and unforgettable memories! I wish I was able to upload pictures of the hair styling session the morning of my wedding, because they turned out beautifully, and you would be able to see just how relaxed I was in Marissa's very capable and talented hands. Thanks again for everything!

I HIGHLY recommend Not Your Average Bella. They were so fast at getting back to me, very flexible and understanding of my schedule for the trial, and such beautiful personalities. They had the best of the best make up and hair products. My mother, my 4 bridesmaids, and I got both Hair and Makeup. Macey did our makeup. She was so fast and we looked flawless. She had to touch up my moms because she cried she loved it so much. Gina did all of our hair and she is so creative. She was so kind and understanding of our time crunch ( Macey also). They were a good team and the company is amazing. So accommodating. Thank you so much Not Your Average Bella, Macey, and Gina. You are forever in our hearts!

I was the “Best Mate” in my best friend’s wedding and I was responsible for finding a makeup artist for the bridal party. Evan was quick to respond and discuss options for the girls. He worked with the bride to come up with her look and the look for the group. Everyone was beautiful and he made my job very easy!

Kelsey was the hair and make up artist on the second season of our web series "Method or Madness" as well as on the music video for Isle of Rhodes that we produced. We absolutely loved working with her. She always worked quickly without ever sacrificing her quality of work. She was a real pleasure to have on set with her great spirit and sense of humor, especially when we were working some very long hours. We highly recommend her! She's a true gem!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

  • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
  • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
  • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
  • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
  • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How much should you tip a hairstylist?

A hairstylist can provide you with a cut, color or highlights, or style your hair for an event. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110, but prices can vary greatly depending on the service you receive, where you live, and the salon’s or hairdresser’s reputation. A good rule of thumb is to tip your hairstylist 20 percent of your total bill. In smaller towns, 15 percent may be the norm, but in larger cities 20 percent is generally the baseline. If you frequent a salon where the shampooer, colorist, and hair cutter are all different people, you can divide that 20 percent among those service providers in proportion to the skill level and time required to do their job. Many hairstylists rent a chair from the salon and must pay a monthly rent to the salon owner.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
