I describe myself as an "intermediate beginner" on the guitar -- that is, I know a handful of chords, have a decent sense of rhythm and can "fake it" pretty well. I went to Adam to help me learn how to play properly and get to the next level. He met my expectations and then some... Adam was quick to size up my capabilities and he worked with me, at my pace and with my input, to help me improve, demonstrating techniques and offering advice that opened up many new possibilities for me. He also provided access to some great training materials and websites that have been invaluable as I work to be a better musician. I especially appreciate his willingness to help me sharpen up and make more compelling several tunes I've written, adding mini-riffs and flourishes that enhance the songs in a big way. Adam is talented, knowledgeable and easy to work with, and I recommend him highly.

I studied with David for almost 2 years. He is a very knowledgeable and patient teacher. His passion and love for his students shines through. He is also very encouraging and pushes you to improve but not in an overbearing way. If you apply yourself I guarantee that you will improve under his tutelage. One of the best things about his teaching is his emphasis on reading music. If you want to become a well rounded musician and not just a guitar player you have to learn to read music. I highly recommend David as a guitar teacher but in the end he is much more than that. He genuinely cares about his students. What more could you could you want from a teacher?

Ever since I can remember, Jason has been studying music. A writer, producer, manager, studio extraordinaire, he is everything music. Since we were kids all I can remember is just experimenting, that was the most fun of all because when you are young and you have the same passion as your cousin sitting right next to you, as you experiment with different sounds and styles, you create magic. I will always remember all the times we would stop jamming (him on guitar and myself on drums) and just look at each other like, wow, that was freaking awesome. We always had a chemistry and really I think it's because we just come from the same blood line as our highly talented grandfather who was a very respected drummer in the Delaware County area in Pa. As time went on and we became older, Jason really took off. His dream to open his own studio always stayed in the back of his mind through college and it motivated him and gave him the drive of the musican he is today. The thing about Jason is that he is humble. Sure, everyone wants to get paid but with Jason it's all about the music. He generally just wants to learn off of new artists and their sounds/styles and also give his feedback to them. It's all about bouncing ideas off one another in the studio, that's how the magic happens. Couldn't begin to explain the countless hours staying up listening to tracks over and over but that makes a great producer. I remember the Hobokan, NJ studio session and how accomplished we felt after just a weekend there. We really put in some work but most of all had fun whenever we made music together. Today, Jason would say he still has a lot to learn just because that's how humble he is but I would say he is at his strongest point in his career right now. With his own studio business growing and his ear for catchy music better than ever, I would encourage anyone who was looking for a producer/engineer to take the time and use this guys knowledge. He knows a lot at such a young age and I only wish I could be around more to experience the magic with him.

Chris has always been my first call when I need someone to DJ or perform as a headliner for an event. He has worked with me on the Lititz Fire & Ice Festival, Lititz National Night Out, VisionCorps events, Lions events, Lititz Springs park events, and more. He is a top-notch Artist that as a headliner, has entertained our crowds and kept them totally and completely engaged. He has also DJ'd for several events for us and always keeps people moving, dancing and smiling. I cannot express in words how highly I would recommend Chris for ANY event anyone would have. He is the full and complete package for entertainment.

Super fun time working with Scott as a producer. He's definitely talented and learns more and more everyday, which is important for a producer, and an artist. I came to him with ideas and we both talked it out and began creating music for my new EP. It was an awesome experience! If you were considering taking lessons from him, I'd say 100% yes to that!

Wow! Every show my mother and I have been to (and there have been quite a few) has been wonderful. Without a doubt Sammy J. is the best Elvis tribute artist we've seen. He delivers powerful vocals and immediately connects with his audience in the true spirit of the King. Wandering through the crowd offering scarves, kisses, hugs and handshakes he adds that perfect extra touch that shows you he's not simply performing but genuinely loves what he does. If you are considering seeing or hiring an Elvis tribute artist I can assure you that you will love this man not only for what he does and how he does it, but also for the wonderful energy he brings to each performance. I love going to Jana's classes. Not only is she a great instructor of singing but she is also an all a around wonderful person. She shares her experiences and life with you in a way that makes you believe in yourself and your strength as an individual and as an artist. She has a great, bubbly personality and makes you feel very comfortable about your voice and your abilities, and she helps you to grow in that aspect and in many others. I definitely recommend Jana as a singing instructor for anyone.

My experience with the Whiskey trail Band was excellent in every aspect. They were responsive from my first contact with them responding to my questions immediately. They arrived early and with almost no direction set up their eqioment and was ready to perform in advance of the start time. I received many compliments from my guests. At the pre discussed time they concluded their live performance and moved their equipment to a new location and became a DJ. They add some colored lights which were perfect. Once again, a terrific job. Took many requests and did a good job balancing the music for 18 year olds and those around 50 years old. Everyone was having such a great time that I extended the DJ time an extra hour. I would confidently recommend them in every aspect!

Sharon Katz is my guitar teacher. The first time I saw her performing on stage with her guitar, I was very inspired to want to learn how to play guitar too. I contacted Sharon about becoming my teacher even though I did not have a guitar of my own yet. She met with me and allowed me to start my first lesson on one of her very own guitars. Sharon was very patient with me as she taught me a few simple chords, proper fingering and made suggestions on what type of guitar I should consider purchasing. I was thrilled when she even offered to accompany me to purchase my first guitar. Sharon is an excellent teacher, she has taught me how to play several simple songs using a few chords. She makes herself available to me whenever I have questions or suggestions on songs I would like to learn to play. Her kind, gentle, patient manner is truly a plus! She is always punctual and even arrives early.I would highly recommend Sharon as a teacher for all ages.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
