Introduction: If you want to play the piano and even possibly make it your career, you have come to the right teacher! Several of my former students are currently playing and singing as a career. I have taught piano for over 30 years, and the exciting part about my teaching is that I offer both note and rote lessons. Reading music on the staff (sight reading) is familiar to a lot of people, but the ability to learn by rote (by ear) is exciting as well. I use music theory to teach how to build chords and use different voicings, as well as how to improvise within a given piece. Please listen to the video of Bridge Over Troubled Water and you will get an idea of how that method of teaching works.
I have taught church choirs for 35 years, so I have a strong vocal background there. I've worked with small group acts and soloists as well. I love to teach harmonies and train the ear to be spot on with the pitch.
I absolutely believe that you will not be disappointed, and will enjoy the learning process. I have a great sense of humor and contend that one must have fun while learning to get the best results!
