I had a persistent leaky roof, which a previous roofer had improperly fixed. Pernell responded quickly to my request and was able to repair the area quickly. Even though the forecast for the day said rain, he and his team still showed up and worked as much as they could during the dry parts of the day. Many other roofers would have seen the forecast and not even bothered to show up that morning. I'm still waiting to see how the repair holds up after a few heavy rainstorms, but Pernell offered a 1-year leak free guarantee on his repair. I'm giving Pernell 4 stars, because I still have to see how the job holds up. However I was very pleased with his work and if his repair holds after the next big heavy thunderstorm, I will not hesitate to call him in the future for other work.

I absolutely recommend Danny at The Roofsmith for your roofing needs. You won’t find a better roofer or someone with amazing customer service than this who cares about your roofing issues. I found Danny on Angie's List and Thumstack during my research for a roofing contractor. From the moment I called Danny up he was in constant communication and helped me feel more than comfortable knowing that I choose the right person. At first I didn’t know what to expect of his services due to there being a little amount of reviews on Angie’s list. It always seems that when you are on Angie’s list that you have to go with the contractor that has 100+ ratings. This is not the case with Danny at The Roofsmith. Danny made sure that from start to finish that his work was completed with excellence and amazing customer service. He was able to complete the job within a 1 day period. I couldn’t be more happier with my roof. After the roof repair was completed it began to rain. The amazing news is that there is no more leaks even after it rained. I am so happy to finally be worry free from the great job he did on my roof. Danny cleaned up after himself and made sure that I was more than happy with the completed work. If you want great customer service, quality work with excellence and someone who is competitive…look no further and choose Danny. You won’t regret it.

We had our roof repaired by SK Quality Roofing in February and again in August 2016 (two separate areas of our roof, which included replacing our skylight.) I highly recommend them. They gave a fair estimate that includes a one-year workmanship warranty. The roofers were professional, friendly and worked non-stop. And the customer service was exceptional. I wouldn’t hire anyone else.

We had our roof repaired twice before. When it was obvious that the repairs did not work the roofers were not to be found. During the last couple of years we have had numerous roofers come out to give us a quote. The only roofers who actually went into the attic to get a better picture of what was going on was Freedom Roofing. They also gave us a more reasonable price quote. We are very pleased with the work that was done.

I live in Florida. Last year my roof had leaks in two different areas; due to the tropical climate, it was imperative to repair it asap. I called on five roofers, was impressed with Fabio; he is punctual, proffessional, sincere and knowledgeable. He inspected the roof inside and outside, took pictures and gave me a thorough explanation and estimate of what needed to be repaired. On the day of the service, he called to say he was on his way, finished the job on the same day and I have been leak free ever since. His price and guarantee were comparable to the others but what set him apart was his knowledge and his inspection of the leaks and the time he spent explaining to me what needed to be done.

Steve did a awesome job. He responded promptly and provided a very competitive rate. He arrived early on the scheduled date and continued until the job was complete. Prior to Steve I had multiple roofers who never showed up or tried to inflate the cost for the job. Steve restored my faith in honest business professionals. I highly recommend Steve the roof guy for any roof repairs or replacements!

Andy The Roofer and Co. was contracted to replace the roof of our home. Richard was very prompt in answering phone calls and arriving on site. Once he provided the estimate and we gave the down payment, they began work on the project earlier than projected, which was great. The workers were careful and generally picked up afterwards. They did scratch the garage door and left a whole lot of gravel on our plant beds, but they did scoop up all nails and debris. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star review is because Richard told us he would be replacing the existing 3" metal trim with new 3" trim. This he told us verbally but once we noticed the new 2" trim and asked him why he had not put the 3" metal trim, he said that was the current protocol for the trim. Now the wood beneath the new 2" trim looks worn and of course, is not painted because it was under the old trim. Now we have to re-paint the whole trim, which we were not expecting to do. Overall Richard provided excellent service. He also did not charge extra for the removal of the unknown 3 layers of paper they found on the roof once they started the job. I would recommend this company as a roofer, however, I would also recommend you get every little detail in writing.

My name is Karen Mahoney I called Harrington and Sons to get an estimate on a new roof. Mr. Harrington showed up in his truck with the ladder and went up and measured my roof he also spent quite a bit of time in my attic . Finding issues that my previous home inspector missed we were very impressed. My husband and I decided that he would be our roofer. Mr. Harrington handled all the details the notifications, permitting and providing us an insurance binder . He was the only Roofing Contractor that made us aware of the Florida State release of lien law. He also provided us with a copy of his cancellation policy based on a federal law that states you have a three-day right of rescission when signing a contract in your home we felt very comfortable with Mr. Harrington he put all the cards on the table The Supplies were delivered into the driveway. With a fork left on a pallet and was covered From the weather when the dumpster arrived the men put plywood down to protect the driveway. We have never seen a contractor do that before. The crew showed up on the proposed start date on time .The foreman and all the workers were very respectful they were dressed in the workmen like protective clothing they had all the professional Tools and Equipment they needed to perform the roof project .Upon completing the job the grounds were left spotless the house was spotless the final inspection went off without a hitch. The communication throughout the job was was excellent If we could give Harrington and Sons 10 stars we would. But I guess we only rate 5 stars We are very pleased customers The Mahoney FamilyMy name is Karen Mahoney I called Harrington and Sons to get an estimate on a new roof. I can't say enough good things about the work Jose did for me last month. But I'll try to name a few important ones. We had an original 1960s bath in our house. It was vintage, but tacky. My wife and I wanted to give it a rustic and earthy look. Not only did Jose work on this project for us, but he mainly drove the design of it as well. He recommended the perfect shower head, bath hardware, and paint colours too. They ripped out my old subway tiles that covered our bath walls and removed all the floor and shower tile. They removed our old shower walls and put in new back boards. They put our shower faucet over head as we wanted the rainfall effect when showering. They put in travertine tiles in our shower and on our floor. Here it was easy to see Jose's meticulous eye for details. The work he did in our tile is outstanding. He put in a new efficient toilet, one that he picked out for us and is another perfect fit. He converted our single sink to a double, installed reclaimed Pine sink cabinet with two carrera marble vessel sinks. No leaks, everything works great. Jose did such a great job for us and I cannot recommend him highly enough. By the time he was finished, all we had to do was pick out some artwork for the walls. We already are saving for him to remodel our second bathroom next year.

Chris and his crew replaced my shingle and flat roof. From the estimate (which they arrived on time for) to the permit papers and roof work all was done really quickly. Even though it was a major project my home was kept tidy. I can't say enough about the job done. I am so happy that I chose Rapid Roofer for my roof replacement.

Ryan and his team are not only the most professional roofing and construction team we have worked with, they are dependable. 10 years of living in our home, it was time to replace our roof. we turned to Champion to put a new metal roof on our home. Each day before leaving they walked around the perimeter of our home making sure they picked up all nails and trash, knowing we have a Lab that goes outside, and they made sure there was nothing left behind for her to step on. They are caring people, and do the highest quality of work. We wouldn't consider using any other company for our needs.

Soon after posting my request for a roofer, Mike Rizzo of Durham Brothers was the first to respond. I'm an effort to give me a realist quote, he and staff visited my property twice. True to the promise on their website, Mike has given me guidance, offered various scenarios and possible solutions to the complex issues I am facing with not only the roof but accompanying problems for which there are not simple solutions. When other companies staff have simply walked away from the property without explaination or the courtesy of a return phone call Mike returned my phone calls including after traditional hours on Friday. The exemplary customer service responsiveness and attention to detail have earned Durham Brothers my appreciation, future business and referrals.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
