I am incredibly sad to be writing a negative review, however my experience with this makeup artist was extremely poor. I got married three weeks ago. I hired Bri to come with her assistant AND a traveling artist ( I paid extra for this) to do the hair and makeup for me and my 9 bridesmaids. We did a hair and makeup trial a few months prior and decided on everything. Two days before the wedding we confirmed all details. On the morning of the wedding, Bri texted me 2 hours before she was scheduled to arrive to tell me that there was an issue, that she was unable to get in touch with the 2nd artist. She was attempting to find another artist, however, to me this was incredibly poor planning on her part. I was worried that it would just be her with her assistant doing all 10 women for hair and makeup. She was initially scheduled to arrive at 9am and had to be done with everyone no later than 2pm. If she had known that she wouldn't have a second artist, she should have contacted me sooner and made plans to arrive at least a 2 hours earlier! She assured me that everything would be okay. When Bri arrived, she was ALONE. She didn't even have her assistant with her, and stated "Because we had a second artist coming, I didn't think we needed the assistant." This was NOT what we had arranged! We needed two artists and an assistant to do all 10 womens hair and makeup in 5 hours. Already I knew things weren't going to go so well. She got started on hair and makeup and was taking incredibly long for each person, to the point where I KNEW we were not going to be done on time. Every person's hair that she did, the hairstyle DID NOT stay. She didn't use enough hair product, put pins loosely, and not a single hairstyle lasted more than 30 minutes. How do you call yourself a hair stylist and have something like this happen?? The girls ended up doing their own hair and makeup in the bathroom (we still had to pay for their hairstyles though!). Thankfully one of my bridesmaids brought one of her own curling irons to use and re-did everyone's hair. Bri was very nonchalant about the whole thing. Eventually she got a second artist to show up at 12:30PM - 3 1/2 hours late(!!). By the time Bri got started on my hair, we were already behind. What's worse is that the curls would not stay. After 2 hours on my hair and using almost an entire can of hairspray and attempting to re-curl all the hair that had already been done, we realized that it was her tools. My friend took over and started curling my hair with her curling iron. My other bridesmaid had her husband run to a local pharmacy to pick up a better bottle of hairspray and they started fixing my hair. At this point, it was already 2:15pm and I completely broke down, crying. At 2:30pm (30 minutes after we were SUPPOSED to be done), the photographer arrived to start doing the getting ready shots, however, I wasn't even halfway done with my hair and makeup! In fact, I wasn't done until 4pm! The wedding was scheduled to start at 5pm. I missed ALL of the getting ready shots with my bridesmaids. Bri had turned the morning of my wedding into a disaster, and she didn't even care! At the end, Bri rushed to get her payment, NEVER apologized for the horrible work she did and even OVERCHARGED by $130 for the services. To whoever is reading this, here is some advice - DO NOT HIRE this person to do your wedding. She has NO business doing hair as was evidenced by the fact that EVERY bridesmaid and MYSELF had to get everything done over last minute. I never got to take any getting ready shots with my mother, my sister or my bridesmaids and instead, after being done at 4pm, had to hurry to put my dress on and run out the door within 15 minutes to get to the wedding on time. All Bri cared about was getting her payment and leaving, stating that she had somewhere else to be. She even left the traveling artist alone with us without even making sure that the job was adequately done. The day after the wedding, I texted Bri to ask her for a complete break down of the charges. She ended up having to refund me the $130 she overcharged me, stating that she was "sorry she didn't tell me that the price of the traveling artist increased from 100 -$150.. and that she mistakenly charged extra for each person's makeup. I should've never even had to pay for a traveling artist after what happened, let alone be overcharged for it. I also should never have been charged for the hairstyles that didn't even last 30 minutes, and were being re-done right in front of her by my other bridesmaids! She has no business doing weddings!

I'm super embarrassed because I accidentally rated another person that did not do my make up, complete accident (if you see this on a Dominquea's page, she did not do my make up). I apologize!! My make up was done by Beauty Queen! She is so professional, friendly and on time. My photos were done after my reception but still looked picture perfect! I would recommend her to anyone in the Miami area. She is a true professional! Again, sorry for the confusion!

I had originally booked appointments for my wedding day with MAC and a hair salon. The morning of my wedding, the girl from MAC never showed (because she was not scheduled) and they would not open to have someone else do my makeup. I had already hired Courtney to do all of my family members for the wedding day. She did an AMAZING job with all of them and gladly did my makeup as well. It came out AMAZING!!! I would use her again any day.

Nika did a beautiful job on my makeup as well as my Mom's makeup on my wedding day. She really took time to understand what we wanted, then choose products and colors that would last the whole day. Her overall "look" advice was on point and she even helped with hair to make it perfect before going to the ceremony. Besides being a great MUA and beauty professional, Nika is just plain nice. She was lovely to have in the suite as we all got ready. I can't recommend her enough--thank you Nika!

Ashley and Martha were quick to respond, very professional. hey worked in tandem. Hair and makeup took about an hour total! Once they finished, they asked questions and made me feel very comfortable to discuss minor adjustments. I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted before we sat down. Once my hair was done, I realized I wanted some pulled out in front to soften the look. They were very accommodating. Their prices were the most reasonable AND there were no hidden fees. I highly recommend this beauty team!

I was in town for the weekend and needed someone to do my hair and makeup for an event I was attending. I decided on Easy Glam by Sam and all I can say is WOW!!!! I loved everything about my appointment. Samantha is an amazing makeup artist and my hair never looked more elegant. She really knows her stuff. I wish she was in the DC area but you can bet that any time I am in Miami, which is often, I will use her for my hair and makeup.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mobile hairdresser?

A mobile hairdresser is a cosmetologist trained to cut, color and style hair who can provide hairdressing services at remote locations. Often, mobile hairdressers are hired for events such as weddings, bachelorette parties, prom night, birthdays and other occasions. The hairstylist can come to your location to do your hair, or provide hairstyling for your group.

For events, mobile hairstylists more often provide updos and formal styles than highlights or hair color. Mobile hairdressers bring all the necessary hairstyling tools and products such as lotions and sprays to create your look. The national average cost for a hairstylist is $70-$110. Pricing for different services can vary greatly depending on stylist reputation, training and regional rates. For example, haircuts could range between $35 and $150, while hair coloring services could range in price from $65 to $200. Some mobile hairstylists may include the cost of travel in their fees, while other may have it as an added charge, such as 50 cents to $1 for each mile beyond their standard service range.

      What is a hair extension?

A hair extension is a beauty product designed to give you the appearance of longer and/or fuller hair. Hair extensions are made of synthetic material or real human hair and are attached to your natural hair by a variety of techniques such as a weave (sewing), hot fusion, tape-in, cold fusion, bonding, metal clips, micro ring or micro loops, and more. The type of technique you select as well as the quality and volume of the hair you choose all affect cost. Hair extensions can last anywhere from three weeks to six months, depending on the application technique. For example, tape-in extensions may last approximately four weeks, while extensions applied using a hot fusion technique may stay in for up to six months. The hot fusion technique takes longer, costs more, and requires more training on the part of the hair stylist, but the result is more natural-looking extensions that can be washed and heat-styled with confidence.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

      • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
      • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
      • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
      • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
      • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

      • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
      • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
      • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
      • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
      • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
      • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
      • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
      • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
