Lara did an awesome job taking care of my Lucy Loo. She was faithful to walk her, even in the rain! Lara texted pictures and stayed in contact with me every day. I felt comfortable with and trusted Lara right away - and Lucy loved her within minutes of meeting her! I would highly recommend Lara for any of your pet care needs.

I am so relieved to have found Jane. I am new to the area and was uncomfortable about who I could trust to take care of my dog and stay in our home. Hudson is my baby and means the world to me. She also is used to getting a lot of love and having me around so leaving her for a few days in a new place was a big deal. Jane came over before my trip to meet Hudson and get to know her a little. I think that made a big difference because when she came back the day I was leaving for the trip, Hudson immediately ran up to her and gave her kisses and smiles. I knew then that it would be ok to leave her. And while I was gone Jane sent numerous texts and photos so I knew what was going on and that Hudson was in very good hands. A big relief. Thank you Jane!

I went in a family trip vacation for 7 days and Aneysi since first time I spoked to her, she was a very profesional and caring person that inspire me confidence to live my baby girl Misu (cat) with her. She is definitely a true responsible and lovely person with whom you can trust your pet care with closed eyes. My cat suffers from a Mega-colon condition and requires daily medication and prescribed food and Aneysi really took such close care of it all the time that I was able to enjoy my trip while knowing she had the control of everything back home. She was in direct contact with me everyday, even send me photos and videos of my cat to keep me updated. I’m truly grateful for having found Aneysi and recommend her 100% to everyone that want to have piece of mind knowing their pets are well taken care of and being loved and pampered when you’re gone. I definitely will keep using Aneysi’s service in the future. Thanks a lot for everything you did for Misu my dear!!!!

I have called dog trainers all around the U.S., and Tackett Service Dogs in Palm Beach was the only company that actually cared! Love that they are a family owned company, and don't just care about the money. They take their training seriously, and truly care about each and every dog that they work with. I chose to work with this company out of all of the others that are local to me in Georgia.

I have a full house. When you have two kids, five animals, a full-time job, and a husband.. there just isn't enough time in the day. By the time I got home with the kids, there was always a mess. The 2 dogs had either gotten into something or ripped something to shreds, so after dealing with this for far too long I decided I needed help. I had initially found out about Mae through a neighbor and so I decided to hire her to walk our two dogs for a couple days or so - to see how it went. She was wonderful! Mae came to my home for free to to meet the dogs, as well as sit and discuss exactly what I was looking for. I won't ever forget how warm and polite she was! She was very professional. I have a Mastiff and a little Shih Tzu, who are best buds but can be quite a handful to walk at the same time. I will say that she handles the two together quite well. Now I've been having her come everyday Mon-Fri to walk the dogs in the afternoon Mon-Fri. I couldn't be happier with Mae and Pink Pet Care!

If you are looking for the best professional pet care provider in Broward and Dade Counties and surrounding areas for your precious ones…then the Pet Au Pair, LLC is whom you should trust your pets too. We have been using the Pet Au Pair, LLC for over a year now. We are delighted and our rescue Chihuahua Tex, (“Lil Man” to Auntie Gail) and our Finches (Dumbledore and Harry Potter) are happy clients! Gail comes to our home when we travel professionally, vacation, or just can’t get home in time to feed or walk them daily. She has a PetScort service too, that is so convenient when our little ones need to go to the vet or groomer. It saves us time from our busy schedules. Gail is dependable, trustworthy, loving, and gives us peace of mind knowing that our babies are in very capable hands in our home or out on the road when we are away. She leaves us notes; text messages with cute photos letting us know how our babies did each day. She is always a positive caring professional and we noticed the difference in our dog Tex! He has really come out of his shell, a happy boy when we get home. He is crazy about Gail. We highly recommend the Pet Au Pair if you are looking for a dog walker or pet sitter!

Kara Sullivan was always punctual, reliable and extremely trustworthy. We love our furbabies, but we’re also nervous about having strangers in our home when we’re not there. I never had a worry or second thought about it with Kara. My cats & I adore her and even my somewhat skittish cat would come out-of-hiding. Kara spends a lot of time playing with them and caring for them. She would text me photos of them and tell me what they were “up to” when I was away. She took a personal interest in them and watched them as if they were her own. I highly recommend Kara for your cat care when you can’t be there. You’re lucky to have found her!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

    • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
    • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
    • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
    • What are your different walk routes?
    • When will you pick up and drop off?
    • How will we communicate?
    • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
    • What’s your cancellation policy?
    • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
    • How and how often do I pay you?
    • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

    What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

    What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

    • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
    • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
    • Wash and dry: $60
    • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
    • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
