Kevin was awesome. Originally hired him for fence repair. He not only repaired the fence, but put in light fixtures, fixed door hinges, and did a little touch up paint on the interior of the house. Great handy man!! Wonderful expression.

He called when others from Thumbtack said they would and didn't. He was great and so was his wife, who works with him. They washed windows, painted, power washed my house, fixed my window screen and did everything I asked. They are also reasonable in price. I will use Ceasar and his wife again!. He also lives very near me.

I highly recommend Adam Werner-Handyman-Cleaning Service. His work was exceptional, excellent work ethics... a real pro from start to finish. Clean, neat, on time. I had some rotting issues around two outside doors that he cut out, replaced with new wood, new seals, then painted. Also changed out three door entry lock systems with new hardware and keyed them to work with my original key. Needless to say, he is first on my list to call for any future work! Jelane Carter

DO NOT HIRE THIS GARCIA FAMILY CONTRACTORS COMPANY FOR ANYTHING!!! My husband and I hired them to paint most of the interior of our home! Everything was painted except the walls and ceilings! They were very very unprofessional! Welched on my front doors that he included in the price he quoted me! They broke a 5" piece out of my marble top three drawer stand, never said a thing about it! They left my brand new sprayer on the outside faucet covered in paint and the hose! There is paint on my leather furniture, my windows other various pieces of furniture! The line they painted where wall and ceilings meet, horrible!!! A two year old could have done a better job! He says your walls are crooked! That's what he calls walls with knockdown on them! Then of course in a lot of places the wall paint is on the ceiling! All over the trim! We could have done it ourselves and did 10 times the job! I made sure I checked his license, but he doesn't do the work! The one guy who acted like he had never held a paint brush before, walked in paint he had spilled and tried to tell me that it was already on my tile floor! He walked on my throw rugs, got it covered in paint! I told him to look on the bottom of his shoes, they were covered in paint!!! I should have fired them right then! It took them 3 days to paint my living dining kitchen combo,1 small Den and laundry room! I am so so angry! They did not properly prep anything! They were suppose to put two coats on and the one they did put on still shows old color all through it on most of the walls!!! PATHETIC EXCUSE FOR A SUPPOSE TO BE PROFESSIONAL PAINT JOB!!! STEER CLEAR FROM THIS ONE!!! The price was reasonable but not if the job is done so poorly that you actually have to go behind them and repaint! Not to mention all the things that were ruined!!! I kindly asked him to get me a quart of ceiling paint so we could try and fix the job! That was too much to ask! Yes my house needed painting really bad, but that's no excuse for them to do a poor job and do it so unprofessionally!!! They do not respect anything you have! Don't care what they ruin in the process!!! DO NOT HIRE GARCIA FAMILY CONTRACTORS TO DO ANYTHING FOR YOU!!! You will be very upset, guaranteed!!! He was not even going to leave me any wall paint!!! SAD SO SO SAD!!! Lynn H.

I hired mike and his crew to pain the inside of my fathers house while on my brief trip to Florida. After I saw the quality of their work and his business ethic, I hired them to paint the exterior, stain the garage, do the landscaping and pressure wash everything. I was beyond impressed with mike and his crew from the beginning and have nothing but the highest praise for them. They were all incredibly polite, friendly and hard working. They worked 3 full days in a row at my dad's place and went above and beyond what i expected. When it comes time to stain the concrete around the pool, I will only call Mike. He made a stressful and difficult week dealing with my father's affairs into a very easy and stress-free event with the quality of his work and his crew. This was by far the best experience I have ever had in hiring a contractor and would highly recommend Mike to anyone looking for the best work and professionalism.

This "team" is the best of the best . . . I've probably had 15 housecleaning services and individuals in the past 40 years and this husband and wife "team" is outstanding. Very punctual, very professional . . . very caring. Also they can do other things like window washing, painting, small handyman jobs and working parties.

We just purchased new home and wanted to change paint in about 60% of the house. We had several responses and interviewed two companies. We picked Archer Painting. The pricing was very fair and could do the work in the time we wanted it done. Greg was awesome! Showed on time and was very professional to work with him. He was easy going and offered to do extra. We even asked him to add another room to the list. No problem. Gladly said he would do it and was fair about the extra cost to do it. He finished on time and when he said and completed the job. The quality of work was awesome! The house looked terrific. We loved it. I would hire Greg back anytime and we plan to so.

Glenn was able to get our backsplash put up and grouted in the timeline that worked for us- on a Monday morning at 8am. He called me to say there was an accident on the highway ahead of him and it would be a delay in his arrival here. I really appreciated the call! We are very happy with the change in our kitchen.

We were super happy with how prompt Tim was and how well he communicated with us about the projects he did. He sent me pictures along the way which I so appreciated since we could not be there while he was doing the projects/painting. He showed up exactly when he said he would and always returned texts and phone calls promptly. It seems to be hard to find reliable people these days and Tim was very reliable. We loved that he is a handyman and painter and was able to install lights, paint our entire condo and fix a door that broke. I would highly recommend Tim and we will definitely use him again when we have other projects. Thanks so much Tim.

Tommy painted out home interior, installed crown molding and ceiling fans throughout, and pressure washed outlet exterior. We just purchased the home and were coordinating remotely; he was professional, checked in with photos continually for updates and questions, always asked the right questions. You can tell that he has a lot of experience and has top notch customer service. We highly recommend this company!

Benjamin and his crew did a great job painting at my house. He was so good, I kept giving him more work. He also painted the beams on my lanai. He is coming back in a couple weeks to paint the trim on my house!! I would highly recommend his company for your work. I would put more pictures out, but I ran out of space.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
