Darren was punctual and polite, tidied up after pruning and was full of advice about the garden plants, I would have him again and recommend his work to my neighbours. +++RonBacker

Jose was prompt in replying to our email and then when we called was also prompt in arranging a next day appointment to give us an estimate. We were looking for someone to do regular maintenance, mowing lawn, blowing leaves (we have a lot of trees) general tidying up around trees. After agreeing on a price (which was extremely reasonable) he was ready to begin right then and there which was great! He finished our yard in just over an hour, did a great job and we were very pleased! He also offers other services, tree trimming, landscaping, etc. and was very helpful and informative when we asked questions about it. I felt Jose was knowledgeable and proud of his business and will be hiring him for our regular maintenance and possibly other future projects.

I contacted Firefly because I wanted to lay new sod on my house. Pablo, the owner, is really knowledgeable, he listened to what I needed and wanted and also gave me a few suggestions along the way. Very professional. He finished the job timely and I also hired him to re-do my front garden.

I highly recommend Laurie!!! Fair and honest estimate, on budget and on time. The design is exactly as agreed and went without a hitch. They installed a completely new irrigation system as well. We have also chose to hire them for our lawn and garden maintenance as well. Thanks to Laurie we now have the best curb appeal on the block! My wife and I could not be more pleased!

Jim arrived promptly and is extremely easy to work with. He accommodated our gardening requests and had solutions for all of our issues with leaning plants, transplanting, and pruning. His rates are very fair and he is someone you will always be comfortable with on your property and in your home.

Handy dandy hands took my yard and transformed it into something I am proud of again. I had a small budget to work with but Jen was wonderful with choosing plants and design elements for my yard. Jen and one of her workers were there for two days and what they did was amazing my yard now looks like a zen garden and I once again I'm proud of my yard. I would highly recommend Jen to anyone who is looking to transform their space into something beautiful. thanks Jim!!

It is very hard to find tree cutters who are professional and work very well. I tried other local companies for estimate. Do NOT HIRE the company Trees In Need, run by Herman Smith, they give a cheap estimate but are highly unprofessional and will take half the money upfront and you dont know if they will even show up or leave the work unfinished and won't pick their phones after they get their money. Prestige Landscape and Carlos did not take any money upfront, they said they will take upon completion of satisfactory work and thats how it happened. They have professional workers who know what they are doing and they take great care in saving other valuable trees on the way while they cut the trees. Most other companies will destroy all other trees that come on their way. They have their own bobcat, lift and their own mulcher to mulch your cut branches so you can use the mulch for your garden. The estimate was also reasonable. I think overall they did a good job. I am attaching pictures. But there is room for improvement. The pay was per project so i didnt mind if they take a day or two days and the work was a lot. It was getting dark after the day's work so workers were hurrying up. I saw that they wanted to clean up the land , they took big branches away but had left small branches and leaves and i needed to clean the floor/land myself the other day. Other than this it was a very nice work and will hire them again.

Economy Lawn & Landscaping is great. I called them on a Monday afternoon to have them come and look at my home and they showed up the next day as planned. They put together a bid to do weekly gardening. They come one time a week on the same day, no guessing. They do a good job, no leaves and junk in the pool. I think they are a good choice if you are like me and don't have the time to do your gardening.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to have landscaping done?

Professional landscaping can help reinvent your outdoor space, boost your curb appeal and get a major return on investment with. Landscaping can encompass anything from adding new plants, trees and shrubs, to leveling the ground and laying sod for a lawn, to building in hardscaping such as sidewalks, water features or retaining walls. The national average landscaping price is $10,160. Landscaping prices can be far lower (with hourly rates ranging from $50 to $150) if you’re only seeking professional help with softscaping or seeking consultation on landscape design. Softscaping means adding or changing horticultural elements, such as planting a garden or adding a hedge. Hardscaping is where costs can really start to rise. Hardscaping requires labor and heavy equipment to excavate the earth; you may need to pour concrete, or you may need a pro who can transport and place gravel and other inorganic elements. Your total landscaping cost will vary based on the amount of work you want done, how much labor is required, and the cost of the materials you are using. A good rule of thumb for a major landscaping project, according to the American Society of Landscape Architects, is to budget 5 percent to 10 percent of the value of your home.

How much does it cost to landscape your front yard?

Prices for landscaping your front yard can range from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the scale of your front yard project. Your landscaping price will reflect how much change you implement, how much labor is required, and the cost of materials.

Landscaping is typically made up of softscaping and hardscaping. Softscaping refers to selecting trees, bushes, flowers and plants to achieve a desired aesthetic and to meet goals such as having a drought-tolerant yard. Hardscaping refers to moving earth, installing structures, and putting in decorative stonework, sidewalks or lighting. For softscaping, you may want to hire a landscape designer to consult on your plants and layout, and then do the digging and planting yourself or hire a gardner to handle the heavy lifting. A landscape designer’s hourly rate may range from $50 to $150 or more. If you want a turnkey approach, meaning someone who works with you to create the vision and then executes all the work, landscaping pricing will typically come down to a cost per square foot rather than an hourly rate. It’s a solid investment: Great landscaping can add up to 28 percent value to your home.
