"I've had a 1 hour massage and a 1 hour facial, both services were completed by Brooke, and my muscles and skin never felt so good! I felt like I was glowing when I walked out of there! She's very professional and knows what shes doing, you can tell she has a passion for this and really wants to help people feel their best. I've been to those franchise massage places, and I've walked out feeling the same if not worse in comparison to when I walked in. But Brooke took the time and asked what spots hurt, she would ask me if the pressure she was using was good and she could really find the knots!! I can't wait to go back for another "gentleman's facial"!!"

"It was my birthday and I wanted to treat myself. It was amazing. Clean, calming, the smells were fabulous. But the massage itself was so relaxing, everything I needed to feel refreshed. Mildred is very respectful and professional, takes into account what her client is looking for. Makes you feels right at home! Planning on going back soon and taking my son who was in a car accident and is dealing with back pain."

"Just had a massage and it was AMAZING! They pamper you with so many extras I've never found in another spa. The massage therapist, Sadako is unbelievable. The spa is quiet and very relaxing with a gorgeous aquarium in the relaxation room. Pampered perfection! I'll be back!"

"I went to Laurie and received several treatments - I have had massages before and use them to help with my meditations as well as pamper/relaxation. Laurie customized a blend of essential oils that fit my needs exactly. She was informative and knowledgeable and the service was great. I will be seeing her on a regular basis now; I am so glad I found her!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
