The fence is flawless, Rick was the gentleman who I spoke with and delt with. He was very professional, and did a really god job. I would recommend him, he called me and we spoke about what I wanted. He came out and surveyed my property and gave me an estimate on the job. After choosing which option I wanted we agreed on a price and signed the estimate. The day before the job was supposed to start I was going over the estimate and noticed that one specific part I wanted was left out. (Wire to prevent small dogs from sneaking out) I told him about what I found and he handled it very profesional. He said he would purchase the wire by roll and add the price to the estimate without adding any charges to the labor. Which was great, he brought me the receipts and I wrote him a check. He forgot to include labor for removing trees and bushes that were along the fence line and kept his word to the estimated price. Like I said before the fence looks amazing. The only thing that's keeping me from giving it 5 stars is the fact that it took longer then expected. Wasn't really a big deal but if time was an issue for me then I would have been upset. Overall good experience strongly recommend.

Professional and friendly service. The price was fair. He explained the process ahead of time and warned of potential difficulties. For instance, he explained that depending on the wall material you can't pull the cables through the wall -- this happened with one of our TVs, however, I don't think he tried the other side of the wall that was actually inside and very likely not a block wall. Based on previous experience with the same type of service, installation was somewhat slow. All in all, I would recommend Hometastic services.

We hired Frank and his crew to come replace our old wire fence and put up two side wood fence panels. Frank gave us the best price, offered to acquire the permit for us, and finished the project very quickly! He first quoted that the project would take 3 days, but he did it in 2 days and we couldn't be happier! Very nice guy, has a friendly hard-working crew, and we would definitely recommend his services. Our neighbors were so impressed they asked us for his information. We are happy to have a fence now so our dog can run around freely. Thank you! -Dave

I needed about 100 ft of wire shelving hung in a couple of days and although I wanted it put up in a specific way, I didn't have much time to explain it. Denis was available and stepped right in to get the work done fast. He did a great job! The shelves were done quickly and the way I wanted them.

Chain link fence installation and other mini projects. Bryan was great. He was on time, did great communications, and completed the jobs well on time. I especially liked the way he cut the trees with care. He didn't dump trees to the ground; he carefully placed the cut tree to the ground - very nice. His price was fair and affordable. It was pleasure working with him. Thank you so much, Bryan.

Several times over the past two weeks the electric power to my house cut out and then came on. Since the very last time happened on a Sunday, I thought it would be impossible to find an electrician. I did try calling companies on the internet but to no avail. I called a friend and she recommended Brian. He came over within an hour and immediately diagnosed the problem. The main breaker to the house was sparking and burnt the wires. Since the part was not available on a Sunday, Brian came the next day and replaced the breaker. My power hasn't wavered since. I would definitely call Brian again. He was very friendly and knowledgable, and the cost was very reasonable.

THANK YOU JOEL. YOU ARE AWESOME. Joel was prompt, on time and reliable. He communicated well and managed expectations. He is also personable and I felt very comfortable as if we had known each other for years. Joel actually charged by the hour instead of the job and I ended up getting a lot more done then I originally quoted. He returned screws to my condenser, fixed my gate, put up multiple pictures, drywall and paint. He tightened door handles. He did jobs that seemed like two man jobs (fence) by himself. His rates for a handyman are the most competitive I've ever seen. And he is careful in his work. Some people might prefer a faster job when billed hourly but I prefer his excellence and with the rates that he charges, he is less expensive AND higher quality. He also provided extra equipment (screws, bolts, wiring to the back of a frame, etc. at no additional charge) I can't believe how lucky I was to find Joel. I tipped him well because he was so economical, and he tried to give me the money back. In this day and age when so many service providers are trying to upsell, it is amazing to be treated like a friend and neighbor when being taken care of so well.

Jose did an amazing job in my new home. He put up every light fixture (Seven of them, most heavy and complicated chandeliers) and then ran my wires for my surround sound system and installed it, along with my whole entertainment center. There was even complications with the installation but he seamlessly took care of it all. I highly recommend hiring Jose for any project! Great communication, timely, and trustworthy! What more could you ask for? :)

Raul is such a fantastic find! We hired him to do a few electrical/lighting projects in the house. He gave us a very reasonable quote and was able to start working that same weekend. He was right on time and worked hard to get everything done for us. Despite running into more work than he expected due to our old wiring, he stayed until the work was done correctly and up to code. Raul is very professional, friendly and courteous. We are so so grateful to have found our handyman! Needless to say, we will be calling Raul for the rest of our many projects.

My husband and I purchased some really unique lighting for our living room however, it brightness turned out to be a bit too much for us. With an older built home and crazy wiring my husband was not going to attempt to install dimmers. I got a quote instantly from Alexander and he was available same day and offered a good price. He was polite, professional and prompt. I will definitely be working with him again.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
