They came late in the evening n stayed till job was over after 9:30. Yes they had to put up lights to finish. Dell was very polite and took the time to answer any and all questions. I can't think of a thing they could have done different or better. It's refreshing to know there are good honest hard working people and companies. Lastly their price was $300 cheaper then nearest competitor and over $1250 over their most expensive competitor. However the others were going to do little extra work. Like trim my palms n grind another small stomp I had That said I still got the best bang for my buck with Dell and his company. Sincerely Pastor Page

Horacio is a 5 star professional. Will definitely work with his company again. Had 5 landscapers out to quote the job and Horacio was the only one to provide a professionally detailed quote. I knew from the start that he was the right person and would work with my company the right way. I gave him the job and he did everything as was laid out in the quote and then some. Truely pleased, he will be taking care of all my future landscaping needs.

I've had landscapers before where a huge team of people sweep in and out of your property in a matter of minutes. I changed over to Horticultural Endeavors Landscape Professional (HELP) because of Jim's (the owner) smaller team, his knowledge and his attention to details. He's overlooking our property and does things without having to be told everything to do and really cares about the lawn and the plants health. Something that larger companies don't do. It's been almost 2 months and he has been working out great.

David designed me a beautiful garden so quickly and gave me an estimate for free!! His men finished the job in a timely manner, and took care not to damage any of my property. This was a lovely experience, nothing like my previous experience with landscapers before. I definitely suggest you use Nera Co. For your next landscaping project.

Andres and his crew do great work. Not only do they cut and maintain our lawn weekly, they just installed new borders and landscaping at our house. We are very pleased with their awesome work. But one of the best things about Five Star Landscaping is Andres and his excellent customer service and follow through which are priceless. I would highly recommend Andres and his team to help with any of your lawn and landscaping needs you might have.

I just purchased a new home in Lake Worth and the backyard was over run by nature. Al and his team did an amazing job cleaning up my backyard. They arrived on time, got the job done in record time, and we're very reasonable. I will be using him to redesign the backyard and maintain it. I would recommend this company to all.

I've used many landscaping companies in the past and had multiple problems with sloppy work and language barriers. Jay displayed none of the that. He was professional, prompt and very reasonable in cost. This company won't disappoint you.

Gold Medal Landscaping is impressive all around and an outstanding company to work with. They showed up when they said they would, which was within 48 hours of placing my request through thumbtack. They thoughtfully listened to our concerns about our yard that had turned into Jumanji. They made professional and expert recommendations about what was best to plant and what was crucial to saving the plants we have now. Then they delivered, beyond what I anticipated was possible. They are a little on the more expensive side but it is worth every penny for an honest, professional, and reliable landscaper in South Florida. Most importantly his work was impeccable.

Very good and honest company. They have done regular lawn maintenance as well as landscaping design and installation. Their prices are very good and the quality of the work is excellent. We have had multiple landscapers for our homes over the last 15+ years and Ricardo and his crew are the best we have had.

Couldn't be happier with the entire experience. The Time is Now Landscaping Company provided a great product for the price. They were not only reasonably priced but ensured our satisfaction every step of the way. I went in with a picture of how we wanted our lawn landscaped and Cory and his team went above and beyond. We are truly happy with the outcome and would highly recommend them to any one looking for a high quality end product. Thank you!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
