Introduction: I am an experienced professional tutor and writer specializing in SAT, ACT, General Chemistry, Algebra, English, and writing. I help students with SAT and ACT test prep for college entrance, scholarship awards, homework assistance, and overall grade/GPA improvement. I also provide College Admissions Coaching services to help families strategically plan, in advance, their child’s college entrance. I pride myself in the work I do. In addition to helping the student achieve their academic goals, I also help the student improve their critical thinking and problem solving skills, which is a lifelong asset. I am very flexible and I maintain an open door policy where the student can contact me at any time for assistance. **SAT and ACT Test Prep** Standardized test prep is my niche and I love helping student achieve their goals! Student score increase is a spectrum based on a combination of factors like how long I tutor the student, if the student is completing all of the exercises, and following the recommendations. I've helped numerous of students qualify for state sponsored college scholarships. --------------------------------------------------------- As a former student, I graduated Cum Laude from the Honors College at Florida International University. Then, I received a scholarship to study Global Health at Boston University where I was the VP of the student body, a Teaching Assistant in the Global Health department’s Mixed Methods Applied Research course, and I obtained a certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Digital Health and Technology. Moreover, I spent two years working on Chronic Kidney Disease research on behalf of the Department of Epidemiology at Boston University. After graduating from Boston University, I worked as a Research Associate and Project Manager for two years developing population health strategies in the areas of HIV, health care access, and quality improvement for a management consulting firm. I also have data programming, statistics, and other math skills required for research and development. ------------------------------------------------------------ Subjects I tutor: *Gen Chem I and II *SAT Test Preparation *ACT Test Preparation *Reading Comprehension *English and Writing *Algebra (Pre, 1, 2)

My daughter had taken the SAT a few times but was struggling on the reading and English sections. She was becoming frustrated as her GPA is strong taking high level classes and her math SAT scores were good. Six weeks before the fall SAT, I decided to engage a tutor through Thumbtack and it turned out to be a great decision. We had a zoom call as a family with Mireille and instantly knew that she was exactly who we needed to help boost our daughters test taking IQ. They met a few times a week and in between there was homework, study materials available and a whole framework to help any student improve. Through practice actual SAT exams my daughters scores started to climb sharply. Our initial goal was to get the reading & English sections on par with her math scores which they did but we didn’t realize that all sections would go up significantly. I write this as my daughter is taking the real SAT exam with no idea how well the actual test will go but am confident that the skills and attention instilled in her by Mireille will help her excel. I feel that the lessons learned will reach beyond this one test and help her in College and future challenges. I highly recommend Mireille for any tutoring needs as not only is she an excellent teacher, she is a wonderful thoughtful person who really cares about her students and their successes.

As an Educator myself, I'm so very happy with this tutor! She tutored my twins, one with ACT and one with SAT. My kids needed different skills. But above and beyond math and reading, she gave them confidence and work ethic, with high expectations of practice. Both made the scores they were looking for-a grand improvement!

Our experience with Mireille as an SAT teacher has been well worth our sons time and our investment! We went in hoping to get his already satisfactory score into a more competitive one. He would need about 170 pts in 5 weeks. Mireille explained that was going to be a tall order as most students prep for 10 weeks or more, but if our student worked hard enough she can make it happen. I am pleased to say after a rigorous effort that it did happen, our son was shooting for a 1400 and actually received 700 math and 700 english to meet his goal. He not only met his goal but enjoys his lessons and from his feedback said she was constantly looking for strategies to hit the mark. From my point of view I really liked that when I called she was actually was the person that was going teach our student. I didn't like when I called the other tutors we had great conversations only to be told well I will have someone else as the teacher. I would say she is flexible and doesn't overcomplicate the process like the others, with an overly demanding information gathering process. She is about taking action and doing what she does, which is teaching not programming. So this has been an excellent experience we recommend especially if your student is serious and motivated Mireille will get the most out of them. I know for sure, we hit our goal right on the number!

Science Tutoring

My teen was in need of support with High School Chemistry and Ms. Levy has been great! She explains concepts in a relatable manner, and she’s consistent in her support. Chemistry was like a “new language” to my son. Since he started tutoring, he’s been thriving!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I charge an hourly rate. I switched to virtual tutoring because of the pandemic, but stayed virtual because of the extreme positive feedback and preference I received from my students. The advertised price is the hourly rate for virtual tutoring or if the student travels to my location. In person tutoring is priced differently depending on how far the student lives.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Prior to an initial lesson, I recommend scheduling an initial call to discuss the academic goals for the student and my tutoring strategies to determine if we are a positive fit. Then, as I start working with the student, I will take note of their current performance compared to the goal so I can provide realistic and accurate feedback to the family. Then, as the sessions progress, I tailor the lessons to meet the student's needs. It is important that families are patient and recognize that for me to provide critical feedback, I need to work with the student for a few weeks, so I can fully analyze the student's current performance compared to what is required of them to reach their goal.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated Cum Laude from undergrad and gained a scholarship to Boston University where I obtained a masters degree from Boston University. I have a pre-med degree (Biology I and II, General Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Anatomy and Physiology, Psychology, Algebra I and II, Trigonometry, Microbiology, Physics I and II), a pre-law degree, and I took graduate level math, law, applied research, and writing courses. I have 10+years of tutoring experience working with students from middle school to the college level.
