Introduction: About My Approach to Yoga & Who I Work With I teach a therapeutic style of yoga that calls for me to custom-design each of my classes based upon the needs of the client. I excel in working with those who are brand new to yoga. The majority of my students have at least one health concern that must be taken into consideration in the design and instruction of my classes. I use modifications extensively.. For me, student safety is key and I have been trained to both design and instruct programs for those with a variety of health conditions. Examples of clients with health concerns include those with: a rod supporting the spine; chronic back and/or hip pain; respiratory conditions; a replaced hip; a knee injury; lyme disease; and those who imited flexibility and strength. I've also successfully worked with children on the Autism spectrum. My style is traditional where the focus is on bringing body, mind and emotions into a more harmonious state rather than on getting a good work out. Sessions with me are slow-paced and student-focused. My clients' practice sessions are gentle and relaxing and yet they alleviate pain, build strength and flexibility, and counter the effects of stress and anxiety. They enhance productivity, creativity and relationships. I only specialize in private and semi-private instruction (and workshops) because this allows me to do what I love - offer an attentive, supportive session where each student can meet their objectives in a safe and nurturing environment. Sessions with Me Since each client is unique, I start by getting to know the client's concerns, needs and goals. This allows for an effective, customized experience. New clients began by completing a profile questionnaire that gives insight into relevant aspects of their lifestyle and health history and helps them to identify goals for yoga practice. I then conduct an Initial Observation to allow me to observe how the client relates to their body and to determine their current level of strength and flexibility in order to assess which categories of practices will be most appropriate. Based upon the client's profile, our discussion, and my observations during the evaluation, I will design a program (or lesson plan) tailored to address their goals and health concerns. In addition to the physical postures, I also instruct every client in simple meditation practices, relaxation practices and specific breathing practices. I am available by phone, text and email to answer client questions. About Me I am internationally certified yoga expert and a qualified E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance. I have over 4,000 hours of formal Yoga and Meditation teacher's training and a 3-year diploma (recognized as tertiary education by the government of Australia) that included training on Exercise Science and nutrition.
