FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
The vision for Embracing Life came to me after the passing of my mother in 2008. Once the memorial was over and the out of town family had left, there was a moment of serenity. After I reflected back on things, I realized being a caregiver was stressful. Trying to juggle your own personal career, family, sharing in the care of a sick family member and handling their affairs were overwhelming. The one part that wasnât stressful was my motherâs finances and end of life wishes. According to researchers mothers tend to have clear expectations about which of their children will care for them later in life which is most likely the daughter; according to a study at least 10% of African-Americans had to quit working to become fulltime caregivers and now they are contending with lost wages. This is when I saw there was a need for someone to help provide resources to caregivers and share with them an opportunity to help themselves financially while helping families align their affairs, ensure their family member(s) are properly protected and safeguarded from the risks that life brings.
