Builders of America Group LLC. did a great job of being very responsive on an early Sunday morning and was ready to start work on same day. I had laminate flooring installed from them and a great job was done.

They were able to take care of all the projects that I needed done for a property that I manage. They painted the interior of a townhouse and did some work on the exterior replacing some rotten wood. Great communication, great work and a great price. I will definitely use them again and I highly recommend them.

Pernell made an appointment to come out and see the work on a Saturday. He came on time and he inspected the roof; we discussed two solutions and he showed me pictures of his work. I selected having a roof installed on my metal flat roof as there was a leak that didn't occur every time it rained. He cleaned the roof; sealed the seams and put on a roof material that would last a minimum of 10 years and he guaranteed his work for 4 years. Not only did he do what he said he was going to do; his crew was extremely neat and respectful of my home. What a professional roofer and his crew were members of his family who have been working together for 10+years. I would recommend Pernell to anyone who called me. Not only was the roof leak stopped; the metal is now covered with a roof material that reduces the noise from rain and the ceiling is cooler which will help reduce my electric consumption as it is an air conditioned space open to my home. Thank you Pernell for the excellent job of fixing my roof.

Leo Costello and he’s team was very professional and came as a emergency to put a emergency tarp on our leaky roof. And when the rain stops Leo and he’s team will return to remove the tarp and fix our leaky roof. I recommend LC Roofing with honesty integrity and being on time and 5 stars and will use him with our future Projects

My Kitchen by Golden Hammer Designers in finished. It is gorgeous. Espresso all wood cabinets to the ceiling and a white quartz counter with full backsplash. Customized pullouts on the pantry. The ceiling was updated from a 70s style drop ceiling with florescent lights covered by plastic to a beautiful ceiling with pocket lighting. I did my homework before hiring Golden Hammer and vetted them including price comparisons. Their prices were by far better than the other 2 companies I went to for estimates. I was happy to be able to choose them because I wanted to hire local. The customer service exceeded by expectations and was better than any place I have ever done business with. This is a family owned and run business. David Llaurado was my contact and was very responsive to all my questions and concerns. I highly recommend them for kitchen renovations.

I've hired John and Will a few times to renovate properties I either own and rent or buy for resell. I'm a real estate investor, we live in Tampa FL and I purchase properties often times in the South Fl market. John is great about going out to view properties that we may be interested in. We sometimes cant see all that may be wrong with a particular property just from the MLS but with John and Wills expert knowledge they can potential save us from making a bad investment. The small fee we pay to have them inspect a property may save us from losing thousands of dollars. We purchased a home in West Palm Beach that had very extensive fire damage. We hired a GC company we found through the yellow pages and online. After about 4months of no progress and several thousand down the drain we fired them and began searching for another GC. John was recommended to us by another Realtor who had used his services successful on a few bank jobs. We gave them a shot, and were pleasantly surprised by how quickly they took over the project and got things done. The property have several illegal additions and violations, they handled all of it. Major demolition, New roofing, new flooring, new paint, new landscaping. the place went from zero to 10 in a little less than 4months. Because of there hardwork we were able to recoup some of or loses when we eventually sold the home shortly after completion. I have since used him on practically all of our other projects. I am pleased with his quality and timeliness and attention to detail. they keep us updated on progress and are very upfront about everything. I highly recommend both will and John.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
