Drum Lessons Miami

Introduction: Hi. I'm Bill Gato, a professional drummer and drum set instructor in Miami-Dade and Broward County. I'm the founder of the drumming instruction website and blog, Drum Lessons Miami. If you or your child is interested in learning to play drums, it's important to start with a proper technical foundation. This will help you or your child develop competence quickly and avoid improper habits or frustration. I teach the classic book Buddy Rich's Modern Interpretation of Snare Drum Rudiments, written in collaboration with Henry Adler. This is one of the finest drum methods in the world. The Adler Method emphasizes proper hand technique, music reading, and complete independent coordination of the hands and feet for playing the drum set. I teach all levels, from beginners to advanced students. I love helping students of any age harness their natural drumming talent. I find that the early teens are wonderful years to learn and absorb the Adler technique. This technique prepares them well for professional playing as they grow into adulthood. I began playing drums at 16 and was self-taught until I was 25, when I began taking formal lessons on the Adler technique with Daniel Perez for 10 years. In addition to basic musical principles, the Adler book contains 83 lessons of exercises and rudiments, 21 reading exercises, 10 rudimental exercises, 46 advanced rhythmic studies, and a list of the most frequently used musical terms. That's over 160 lessons. I supplement the Adler book with additional books such as Ted Reed's classic Syncopation and the National Association of Rudimental Drummers (N.A.R.D.) classic America's Drum Solos for additional reading exercises. We also review the Adler-Rich book several times with different approaches. I began teaching drums at Miami-Dade College's Music Learning Center (North Campus) in 2007 and still teach there on Saturdays. I am also a part-time instructor with Florida's Elite Music Instruction private school. I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
