I'm not a professional singer but I've always enjoyed singing and wanted to sing better. I didn't know if that was possible given my age (68), but even after the first lesson with Caryn I knew it was possible, and I was excited. She worked on proper breathing techniques, posture, range and methods for relaxation! Her non-threatening and friendly personality made the lessons comfortable and fun. I have a new appreciation for what our instrument (voice) is capable of...at any age. Along with my new knowledge has come confidence and joy! Thank you Caryn!

I am a busy professional who owns my own business and as time has progressed, I have come to realize that Spanish is no longer a plus, it is a necessity in order to stay competitive in today's business market in South Florida. When choosing a service I researched numerous places, talked to more than 10 people and interviewed 3. Jose was by far the most knowledgeable, flexible, experienced and passionate person I spoke with. His love for what he does shows through in all that he does. In just 4 months, I am understanding nearly everything that I hear and read, am able to write with above average proficiency and consider myself conversational in Spanish. Although, conversational is what I desired as my initial goal, I am continuing lessons beyond that to enhance my skills because it has been such a great process. I would highly recommend Jose to anyone who is considering hiring someone to learn Spanish. I am extremely picky and Jose has exceeded my expectations in every way.

We had a rocky start to the first music lesson. My daughter was sick and then Irma decided to hit our coast. We are going on the third lesson with Rachel and she is a terrific teacher! My daughter enjoys her lessons. I am very satisfied and would recommend.

I arranged for lessons for my husband. He loved the lessons and thought working with Rich was great. He's currently taking a break because of our family timing and financial commitments. My only complaint is that Rich's tuition plan - monthly - is not ideal for people who need scheduling flexibility. I have been a private voice and piano teacher for 23 years and part of the reason I have always had an amazing clientele and a waiting list is that I'm extremely flexible and accommodating to people's lives. My attendance/cancellation/reschedule policy still requires a minimum number of lessons per month, but with advance notice of absence I'm always open to rescheduling. With a 6-year old, my husband's crazy work schedule and my doing a full time doctoral degree in music at UM, our timing are always in flux. My husband had to skip a number of lessons because of our family stuff. But - I suppose if you are someone who can easily commit to a set time every week without fail, the tuition plan shouldn't be an issue. As for the lessons themselves - my husband loved them and felt like he learned a lot every week. Also, Rich's methods are super organized and systematic and he shares a variety of tools with his students to maximize their practice and learning potential. It really seems like a great system. My husband definitely hopes to get back to working with Rich again - and when our schedule and finances settle down a bit, I'm sure he will!

My eleven year old son has been taking drum lessons with Chuck Reichel of Sound/Picture Recording for a year now and my wife and I (and our son!) could not be happier. Mr. Reichel is an excellent drum teacher and my son actually looks forward to the weekly lessons. The lessons are thorough, organized, very reasonably priced, and designed to get results. Our son, who never took a lesson before starting with Sound/Picture Recording, now plays drums on a weekly basis for our church's praise and worship team much to our delight. As a school teacher myself, I can attest to the fact that Chuck is a caring and thoughtful teacher who constantly exceeds our expectations. The encouragement that my son has received from Chuck could not easily be matched and we are so thankful for the role that he is playing in our son's life.

We had the pleasure of having Paulina give some lessons to our teenage daughter during a short stay in South Florida. Paulina was always on time, very responsive, and a great teacher. Most importantly, her joviality made it a pleasure to work with her, both for parents and daughter!

I took Doctor Aparicio's 10 hour online course to help with my Spanish at work. I have to say she is an authentic teacher!!! I have never taken a course on line with a professor attending me a full hour and I have to say I learned more than I thought possible. I like that she customised all the lessons for me, according to my needs, and she made me work hard. She is very inspirational, fun, and a sweet and demanding professional. She teaches you not only to be fluent when speaking but also to learn about the culture in Latin America and Spain. She is very knowledgeable about art, history, linguistics, literature.... She is one of a kind. There are not may profs like her left. I put in practice what I learned with her since day 1 and I am thinking of hiring her to improve my Spanish. I want it for travelling and be able to communicate in Spanish at a higher lever.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
