I was looking for a teacher via Skype. Ended up Dyce was 15 minutes from my house. Lol! I play in a local cover band her in Fort Lauderdale. I was stuck with the same thought process towards the guitar for years. After the first lesson Dyce fixed 50% of my problems. Really! I've grown ten fold through his instruction. I recommend him highly to anyone who wants to learn guitar. He is a Master at his craft.

Neil was a pleasure to work with for my meetings in Florida. Very accommodating above and beyond what I would expect from an entertainment company - always responded very quickly to my questions. We hired a solo guitarist for 2 nights, a duo band for 1 night, an MC for a teambuilding event, and a DJ/Karaoke for 1 night. All of the entertainment provided was excellent and our meeting attendees really enjoyed it. Would definitely contact Neil if I am back in the area for meeting.

Arlin is amazing! We hired her for a piano bar cocktail at my son's wedding. She was able to sing in 4 or 5 different languages, so all of our foreign guests were very pleased with her too. She has a very beautiful voice. We highly recommend her!!

The CK Band did an outstanding job for our reception. They arrived on time and played as scheduled. The attendees enjoyed the variety of music the band was able to cover. I wanted to commend the band - our event was held at a facility where we did not know what the parking fees would be. We made arrangements to pay the fees in cash ahead of time. When the band arrived - they alerted us that they were able to park in a free area and did not need to accept the cash. Not many bands would have done this and I commend CK and the band on their integrity. Book them - they are as good as they are honest!

Had No Onions for a small get together for a birthday. They were fun and everyone enjoyed them. Not super loud like rock bands can be which was nice for a house party. I would hire them again.

Max is a thorough professional. Easily the most diligent, disciplined, studied, talented, and kindest keyboardist in South Florida. I've played countless gigs with Max over the past 7 years. And his performance record is not only impeccable professionally, but outstanding artistically. From classical to blues, piano to organ to rhodes, Max handles them all seamlessly and has an incredible knack for riveting solos. I perform over 180 shows per year and there is no one else I would rather have on keys (and left hand bass!) than Max Farber. Max is always striving to be better at his craft and therefore has a great technical knowledge of the piano as well as music theory. If I were to take piano lessons, I would absolutely go to Max Farber before anyone else.

Cornbread is an amazing local contra dance band that comes with its own caller. Anita does an incredible job teaching newbies how to dance, as well as calling more intricate advanced dances. This band knows how to spice up their music and are our favorite go to band for events in the south Florida area.

Frank and his band played at our private yacht party during Art Basel Miami Beach 2014. They played great music all evening, moving around the yacht and interacting with guests. While they may be young, they were prompt, professional and talented. I would hire them again.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

        What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

        • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
        • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
        • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
