My daughter had the pleasure of being coached by Scott Smashey from 2010 to late 2012. From that time he took her from ZAT, Champs, to Supers here in the state of Texas in 9 months. This is unheard of here in my state. Children have to go through a three tiered system to advance to the highest level known as SuperChamps. My daughter could not have done this without the aid of Scott. She worked hard daily for him and he was very patient and helpful in assisting her to achieve her goal of becoming a "Super". Now telescope ahead six years from beginning our relationship with Scott. He and I talk almost weekly as we have developed a long term relationship based on my daughters tennis. I consider him a friend first, a dedicated coach second. If I lived in the Fort Lauderdale area my daughter would still be seeing him daily. If you want to take your child to a coach that genuinely cares about their athlete then Scott is your best choice in Florida. Richard Parks Fort Worth, Tx.

About

Schedules are as follows: Adults: Everyday, except Saturday Children: M, W, F Tots: Saturdays, 12 pm Aikido is a self-defense, non-competitive martial art that emphasizes blending with an opponent's attack. The movements are designed to coordinate the defending and attacking bodies in order to redirect the natural flow and energy of the attack and neutralize it. In this way, aikido harmonizes all motion in a positive way instead of trying to conflict with it. A basic premise of aikido is that the mind, body, and spirit must act together. The philosophy, ideals, and ethics of aikido are inseparable from the actual physical training. In order to lead another person into circular motion, we must first be in control of ourselves and be the stable, energized center. Aikido is a multidimensional martial training system. Students gain a deeper knowledge of many aspects of themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Some of the physical benefits are: improved coordination, increased strength, greater stamina, increased flexibility, better posture and balance, and improved overall cardiovascular fitness. Aikido techniques also facilitate concentration, develop sensitivity, and promote relaxation. Through serious aikido training, one develops the ability to respond positively to stressful situations. As one's awareness and focusing ability is enhanced, balance and calmness are easier to attain and maintain. Training in aikido helps nurture a strong, yet supple and relaxed, body as well as a calm, clear mind. At Gold Coast Aikikai, we recognize the importance of incorporating daily training and forming daily habits for developing physical, mental, and emotional discipline throughout one's life. Our school offers aikido classes for adults and children. We promote a healthy lifestyle and encourage a family-like atmosphere while teaching important skills for self-defense training.

About

About Bertha Diaz: Bertha provides precision yoga instruction influenced by her ability to integrate yoga expertise with an aesthetic sense developed during her career in the fine arts. She brings creativity and playfulness to her classes, and incorporates the specific needs, limitations and strengths of each student. Her classes focus on flow and exact alignment that allows beginning students to attain correct postures and more advanced students to explore their potential. She began practicing yoga while working as an art curator in London, and became a Bikram certified instructor in 2005, followed by becoming certified to teach children with BUGS. After teaching Bikram yoga for a year, she moved to the U.S., and began to explore other types of yoga, including the Barkan method for which she completed the level II training. Keeping elements from each of these, Bertha started her own studio, Firefly Hot Yoga in 2008, offering to share with others her experience and her own unique view of the body. Bertha believes in constant learning and participates in workshops from a variety of important teachers, including Jason Lawner, who uses the Anusara technique. She was inspired by the teaching method of Ken von Roenn to become certified in his distinctive Skanda technique. In 2010, she trained with Chris Simons in the suspension core flow method to offer her students the advantages of aerial techniques for developing strength. “Teaching people how to feel good has been the greatest gift in my life.” - Bertha Diaz
