"I have had massages from different massage therapists in the past and Kelly by far is the best. Kelly is positive and never made me feel awkward or funny about my imperfect body. I will continue to use Kelly as my massage therapist because she is amazing. Give her a try. You won’t be disappointed."

"After injuring my knee from overtraining at the gym, I went to several doctors to try and figure out what was wrong and what was causing my swelling and pain. No doctor could tell what was going on and as far as they were able to tell, I had nothing wrong with my knee. Evidently, I knew there was something wrong and I had pain even standing up too long. It wasn't until I went in for several sessions of massage with Austin that my pain began to subside. Austin was able to tell me exactly what he thought was going on and how he was going to fix it. Not only is my knee pain completely gone but my body feels less tense and I have also improved my posture! Austin is the most professional, knowledgeable, and versatile therapist I know. I cannot thank Austin enough for the amazing work he has done on my body. You know you've found a keeper when a therapist could do an amazing deep tissue massage while also relaxing you enough to make you fall asleep."

"My experience with COR Massage was incredible! Courtney has magic hands that made my hour long massage feel like 3 hours. She was gentle, but did not shy away from applying more pressure to knots. Courtney is extremely knowledgeable and I could tell she had many years of experience. As a dancer and acrobat, I am constantly tensing my muscles, and just stretching was actually causing more pain. But after my massage, I feel a weight off of my shoulders. My pain has decreased and I feel more flexible. I cannot wait to return for more. 10/10 would recommend!!!"

"Follow her from Thailand ..She is the best Massage and Esthetician Therapist in Lauxy Spa that I have been visited. My first deep tissue from her made me feel very impressed. One week later I requested her again from my away out the beach. She was very professional and suggested me to get a wrap treatment to helps calm the skin down first and get massage or facial later. I got sun burn. She did give mask treatment on my body and face with cool jell smell like aroma . I love it. Now I met her again in Jax Beach I was so happy she still doing her same job and bring her experience with sweet culture to here. In Thailand people very sweet , customer service and polite. They treat you so prefect that you have even had. I felt like a queen when I was there. And yes I feel like comfort home and a queen again when I met her here. Hight recommence to request her in Microdermabrasion Facial and Full Body Detox Wrap . You won't be up set with her service."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a deep tissue full body massage?

A deep tissue full body massage is a form of healing bodywork. At your first massage, your massage therapist will do a brief intake. They will ask you questions about the type of pressure you’d like to receive during your deep tissue massage, any previous massage experience you’ve had, and any injuries or sensitivities you have. You can remain clothed, or the massage therapist will provide draping so that even if you’re not wearing clothes you are always fully covered. Deep tissue massage may be a good option for people with chronic pain or muscle tension. The systematic deep tissue strokes will work to break down any scar tissue or stiff tissues and create ease in your body again. Massage therapists use their hands, forearms, fists and knuckles to knead and stroke your muscles and loosen adhesions. Although deep tissue massage work is intense, it should not be painful, so communicate clearly with your massage therapist so they know if you’re having any discomfort. The national average cost of a deep tissue massage is between $70 and $90.

What is the purpose of a deep tissue massage?

There are many reasons to get a deep tissue massage. A deep tissue massage can release adhesions — also known as knots — that are causing painful tension in your muscles. Deep tissue massage can promote healing and ease discomfort related to illnesses such as cancer, chronic headaches, osteoarthritis of the knee, chronic neck or back pain, depression, and more, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. If you have an old sports injury such as shin splints, or a bad back from an old car accident, deep tissue massage can promote healing in your traumatized and scarred soft tissues and get you on the road to recovery. The strokes and techniques used in deep tissue massage work to lengthen soft tissue structures that have stiffened and hardened into knotty adhesions that allow minimal movement. Deep tissue massage can loosen these adhesions so that long-standing scar tissue releases and you can gain more mobility and more freedom from stiffness and pain. And it just feels good. The national average cost of a deep tissue massage is between $70 and $90.

What is the difference between a deep tissue massage and a Swedish massage?

Deep tissue massage and Swedish massage are both forms of therapeutic bodywork. In both modalities, a licensed massage therapist uses strokes administered with their hands or forearms to loosen and relax your muscles and other soft tissue. These releases can promote relaxation, pain relief and wellness.

Deep tissue massage may be an excellent therapeutic choice for people with chronic pain or severe tension in their muscles. The deep tissue massage technique moves below the top layer of muscle and soft tissue to release adhesions in your core muscles. In comparison, the strokes used in Swedish massage focus on loosening and relaxing the top layer of your soft tissues. Swedish massage produces relaxation and well-being, but if you have a long-term injury or back pain that won’t seem to go away, deep tissue massage may be a better option for you. The systematic deep tissue strokes will work to break down any scar tissue or stiff tissues and create ease in your body again.

Do deep tissue massages work?

Deep tissue massage not only feels fabulous, it can provide results. The massage technique targets deeper layers of muscle and your connective tissue. For its ability to stimulate those deeper muscles, deep tissue massage is commonly used during recuperation from sports-related and other injuries, according to the Mayo Clinic. Deep tissue massage has been proved to reduce high blood pressure and a range of other ailments. Deep tissue and other types of massage are frequently used for relieving stress, managing pain, breaking down scar tissue, relieving muscle tension and improving health. The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health cites the following as health conditions for which that deep tissue massage can provide relief:

  • Chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, and osteoarthritis of the knee
  • Labor pains
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Fibromyalgia pain and fatigue
  • Headaches
  • HIV/AIDS

The proper deep tissue massage may also benefit preterm infant health. Cancer patients may experience reduced pain, increased relaxation, and improved mood.
