About this pro

How does your business stand out?

I am a John F. Barnes trained Myofascial Release Practitioner in the Jacksonville area. I have knowledge and training in physiology and anatomy. If you have tried everything else and exhausted all your options, MFR is your way to go. I integrate MFR into all of my sessions and found that this approach can be applied anywhere in the body to address tightness, tension, pain and other symptoms. It makes sense, it's safe, no drugs, creams, oils or exercises needed. I will teach you self care tips that you can use at home between treatment. The American Back Society credits physiotherapist, John F. Barnes, with one of the most important advances in healthcare in the last century, for his understanding of the fascial system, muscle memory and chronic pain. I am honored to have been taught by him and to be practicing his approach to healing.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I love the fact that massage therapy is healing not just to the client but to the therapist as well. It's not a job, its almost like entering a therapeutic, meditative state. I can center myself, tune in to my client and connect with them as I allow my intuition to take over. It is said that we each have a calling, massage therapy is mine. I was born into a very holistic family. That deeply intuitive environment, from a very early age taught me to appreciate the significance of mind-body healing, and the fact that it is not only the most essential, but the most effective part of healthcare. I do this every day and its not a job.

Best massage we've had to date and loved the hot towels, which were a surprise for a home service. Hubby & I frequently have massage services at home or spa/hotel (at least monthly), so this says a lot about Roxanne's skills.

My experience with Roxanne has been exceptional. We have had two sessions so far and she is very punctual and attentive. I had some specific goals in stretching and it is clear that she takes them seriously and is working toward my goals. She is a very pleasant person.

Roxanne is an excellent massage therapist, I've had multiple car accidents which she's seen me through both as a PTA and a MT. The thing I like most about her is her calm personality, and professionalism. When she walks into the room her energy is just nurturing. She listens to you, asks relevant questions and really knows what she is talking about. I like the self care tips that she teaches me to use at home too. She is a very nice and respectable human being and also a very good massage therapist and a good mentor thank you roxhands ......

I went to see Roxs because I was seeing a physical therapist and an occupational therapist (which cost a fortune) as part of a group practice, when I was finish seeing the one, I would go see the other. I would leave in so much pain. For days after my treatment I would be in pain, I dreaded my next visit, but I need to have my QL worked on and my rotators as well. A friend told me to give Roxs a try. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I never realized that work that was so gentle could be so effective. I leave each time feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. The chronic QL pain is no more I visit her for relaxation massages now.

I went to Roxs because of back pains from standing for long periods of time at work. She did positional release on my neck, shoulders and arms and MFR on my back. I continued to be treated by her until she moved to FL. I highly recommend her. She was always punctual, professional and pleasant. I am not an overpriced spa type of gal, working with Rox was perfect for my needs!

I took my daughter to see her, because she had pain in her neck from jumping on her trampoline. She was very professional, she explained every thing that she was doing for her, my daughter actually fell asleep. She said it felt really good. The pain her neck was gone. I highly recommend her to anyone.

Q&A

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Last year the required continuing education courses needed for me to remain state compliant was 24 hours, I reported 60 but did more than 100 hours. I love expanding my knowledge in massage.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I new from a little girl that this is what I wanted to do. I grew up in the field of massage, because of the family I was born into. I can't remember massage not being a part of my life. I always found a reason to give a massage. In fact I was presumptuous enough to think I gave the best massage ever!!......lol. until I went to massage school and found out I had a lot to learn.....lol I was forced to pursue a more "lucrative" profession, and so I did for many years. Eventually, my father had a stroke and I took a look at my life, realized that I needed to do what I really wanted, life is too short to waste time doing what doesn't fulfill you!!
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
One of my clients had her last day of radiation therapy and requested a massage. After the session she said she felt relaxed and all she needed now was a glass of wine. I felt happy to be able to bring her such relief knowing all that she had just been through. One of my young clients (11 yrs old) came to me with a hyper-extension of the neck, she was unable to turn her head. After her treatment, I called her mom to see how she was doing, she told me her daughter was outside in the pool swimming. I was shocked, but ecstatic.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Look for someone who would treat you, not like just another paying customer, but someone who is vested in your health and well being. Some one who believe in what they do and in making a difference.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
That there is nothing I'd rather do. I wish you knew how much I look forward to working with you. I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love. I strive to connect with each of my clients so I can have a better understanding of their needs. In this way I can serve them better.
