Danielle is an excellent trainer. She is always on time for our 5:00am sessions and she makes working out fun. The workouts are different in almost every session and the "homework" she provides helps to keep me going. Anyone would be blessed to have Danielle support their health and fitness routines.

Jenn is really great! I am 31 years old and in fairly good shape but I was needing some guidance in my workouts. I am not much of a gym goer and do not really enjoy working out with machines. Jenn comes to my house, she brings her own equipment, yet she is very flexible to and willing to go to your own gym as well. I have been working with her once a week since the New Year and she has taught me so much already. She has a very gentle approach yet pushing me to my goal. She is a great nutritionist, not the lecturing type, and feels like you are talking to a long time friend who has a genuine interest in you and your health. She definitely deserves all 5 of these stars!

I first meet John Bruno when I was a junior in college. He was the martial arts and strength and conditioning coach at the time. He is very knowledgeable about both subjects. Part of earning his respect is remembering that if you ask him to teach you, you are the ignorant one so listen and try to do what he says. He can seem pushy at times but he does care about those he teaches. If he hadn't pushed me I would've never exceeded my own expectations. In some ways I think he may have believed in me more than I did in myself and for that I am thankful.

Liat has a warm spirit and possesses the amazing ability to explain nutritional and medical terminology in layman terms. This was very useful, because I learned how diet affected my body. I have been working with Liat since April 1, 2017 and have lost approximately 20lbs and counting. My keys to success have been following Liat's meal plan, the Bee Well vanilla protein shake, MedCaps, vitamin D capsules, and probiotic. If you are ready and committed to changing your lifestyle and to improving your health and wellness, I highly recommend Bee Well Nutrition. -La Shawn Ames

Lynne designed a workout program for a neglected segment of the population - menopausal woman. The workouts were just right - challenging but not unattainable for my level of fitness. She also included nutritional advice and outside activities that helped our group bond and become excited about all aspects of health.

Great workout! Chris was awesome she makes you feel comfortable and coaches you if you are doing something incorrectly which I love, I've come across other fitness studios that do not do this and this is so important when working out. I highly recommend trying Studio Physique.

I was already in decent shape and had a good amount of fitness knowledge when I worked with Shane but who doesn’t need a coach? Shane was able to help me develop a plane and attack muscles and my goals in a different way than I had been doing which gave me considerable gains, weight loss and a better understanding of my body. Shane and I work together off and on and I’ll continue to have him as my “trainer” moving forward because of the knowledge and work ethic he brings to the table! Thanks Shane! I can’t wait until our next session.

I'm very thankful for Ave. She has managed to meet me where I am while at the same time pushing me. That is a delicate balance to strike and she does it well. Not all personal trainers are able to work well with someone with injuries or other health issues. She can!

Denise is one of the best personal trainers I know. She is highly knowledgeable when it comes to anatomy and is excellent at helping clients recover from injuries with corrective exercises. When working out with Denise, I know I have her undivided attention, and I love all the nutrition advice she shares during our sessions. She has a ton of energy and enthusiasm about health and wellness, and I would highly recommend her if you are looking for a fun fitness trainer!

I have been working with Jesse only a few short weeks yet I can already see and feel a significant change in my body. He has demonstrated a high level of knowledge in both areas of fitness and nutrition. I can tell he genuinely cares about helping me attain my short and long term fitness goals. Jesse’s methods and exercise movements he has created are unique, as well as his approach to the way he coaches and trains... very innovative to say the least. Training with him is intense but he makes fitness fun. I look forward to each session. And one more thing, his nutritional advice and meal planning has been amazing. Very impressed and thrilled to have him as my coach and trainer!

Janelle has been my personal trainer for five years. When I started training with her she developed an exercise program for me that combined fitness and flexibility exercises. That program and good diet advice helped me lose 66 pounds and become stronger and more energetic. A few years ago I had health issues that required surgery and an extended hospital stay and home recovery time.. As a result I lost a significant amount of muscle. I resumed training with Janelle early in my home recovery. She used a new training program designed to build muscle and regain flexibility while I slowly recovered from surgery. We now train using a rotating series of exercises to maintain and improve my overall fitness. Janelle is very good at what she does. She is committed to helping me maintain good physical health. And she is friendly, kind and caring.

There are literally no excuses when it comes to health and wellness, only choices. I am a nurse and have a crazy, irregular schedule. I travel domestically and internationally. OFTEN. I split time between two homes in two different states. But I still have choices. I made the choice to train with Meraki Impulse for many reasons. First and foremost, Lamond and Whitney are genuine and passionate about what they do and the clients they serve. Second, their holistic, systems approach to health and wellness can address and help any client, regardless of restrictions. They work WITH you and are your biggest cheerleader and coach, but YOU have to do the work and put in the time. Third and finally, I appreciate their honesty, support and encouragement, and especially challenging me to be the best version of myself; mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually. Nothing is off limits and that's what makes Meraki Impulse so unique. They really listen to your wants, needs, and goals and cater their plan to specifically you. They offer tips and support through both their website and Facebook, as well as reach out between sessions to see how things are going. After one month I am off my inhaler before workouts, down almost 25 pounds, 4 inches and 2 pant sizes. I sleep better, feel stronger and have an overall less anxious mind and body. It has not been easy to build new habits, but I appreciate their patience and dedication. I know they are just as committed as I am in building a better me. No excuses, make the choice for Meraki Impulse.

I never felt comfortable in a gym until I had the opportunity to train with James. His diverse background of training styles made him the perfect coach for me while I navigated my way through my fitness journey. So far he's trained me to perform Olympic lifts, high volume plyometric workouts, any and all TRX-style training, body building and physique training, as well as how to properly warm up, cool down, stretch and foam roll. Additionally he totally opened my eyes when it comes to mobility, which has kept me injury-free. He's also taught me how to know when to rest and how to recognize that I can push myself just a little bit further. Regardless of your goals, invest in someone who lives and breathes this lifestyle; James can guide you because he's actually taking his own advice. I promise you'll be inspired, mentored and changed after training with this guy.

I guess I've been "lucky" to have been thin for most of my life. When I turned 47, things changed. Early menopause was not my friend! Lumps and bumps and as I call it, this layer of "splooge" appeared. I couldn't get rid of it. People told me to get used to it. So, I did. 2 years later, I met Dianne!! My friend, Rita Love, insisted that I join her boot camp. Dianne welcomed me! Her knowledge in nutrition, health, and working out is incredible. I have osteo arthritis and a bulging disc in my neck, I used this as an excuse to avoid exercising. Guess what? Dianne has shown me that I can still safely work out and movement is actually good for my issues. Trying to eat healthy is sometimes difficult while traveling. I'm an international flight attendant. Customs and immigration doesn't allow fruits and meats. I gave Dianne every excuse I could think of to bail out on her program.well, she busted me on every one!! She created a wonderful way for me to work out in my hotel rooms! Thanks to Dianne, I've lost 9 inches total(splooge is gone)!! I've lost 13 pounds and I'm in the best shape I've ever been in!! I just had a physical. I've been lucky in that department as well, but now the numbers are even better!! 50 is next month and I can't wait!! As long as I've Dianne to work with me, I'm not afraid of any age!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a health coach?

A health coach is a service provider you can hire to help you realize your wellness goals. You can hire a health and wellness coach to guide you through life changes, keep you focused on weight loss or fitness goals, help boost your mental health, and more. Many health coaches work with their clients for set periods of time as the client moves toward a measurable goal. Wellness coaches come from varying backgrounds, and may have different areas of focus depending on their education and training. Research potential coaches by reading their reviews, researching their academic and personal backgrounds, and learning about any certifications they have earned from coaching institutes. Often, health and wellness coaches sell coaching packages ranging from three to six months or longer, depending on the client’s needs. The average national cost for an individual health coach session ranges from $60 to $90, although prices may range as low as $30 or up to $130 or more, depending on your location and the coach.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

What is a holistic wellness coach?

When you want to reach new heights with your health and wellness, consider hiring a holistic wellness coach. Much like a health coach, a holistic wellness coach is focused on your well-being and meets with you in one-on-one sessions to help you identify and reach your targeted goals. A holistic wellness coach will typically have you take all components of your life into account when working to achieve your goals. If your goal is to lose weight, a holistic wellness coach will not only offer recommendations for your diet and exercise, but also discuss your emotional health, your work/life balance, your spiritual side, and each area of your life that affects your ability to follow a nutrition and fitness plan.

Although they are highly motivational and often can help clients achieve great results, holistic wellness coaches are not professional health care providers or registered dietitians. Different institutes and training centers provide certifications for holistic wellness coaching, so be sure to research your coach and read their reviews to understand more about their techniques and training.
