Lori was great; she definitely helped me out of a bind. She went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable leaving our dog for the first time. She stopped by the day prior so we could meet her and answer any specifics about the dogs care and routine. Would definitely recommend and use Lori's services again.

I want to start off by saying that our pets are not just our kids, but our only kids. This means that we are very picky pet owners. We have several pets with various needs such as meal, potty, and medication schedules. When we realized we were going to need pet sitters we were very worried about making sure the household would remain stable and not show any disruptions. Anyone with lots of pets knows that when they aren't happy, they will make sure you know. That means cleaning up messes! Kathy has been a lifesaver for us! She has kept to the schedule, is always on-time, and ensures everyone is happy. That also includes us, the nervous pet parents. Kathy sends regular updates to let us know how things are going at home. Even our very nervous old lady (our geriatric shepherd mix) has become friendly and comfortable with Kathy! Butch and Kathy are both very committed to the comfort and well being of the pets they care for. When we get home our pets are calm and happy and we have yet to find any messes to tell us otherwise. We honestly don't know what we would do without B and K!

Very helpful in every aspect of the training our dogs required. We learned that sometimes we as pet owners need some training and in the process we all won with Martha a tremendous amount of knowledge to help us have happy little pups. Highly recommend this trainer. HJ

Esme did a wonderful job with my 16-year-old Toy Poodle. She was very patient and calm with my difficult pet who has severe anxiety due in part to Stage 2 renal failure. It wasn't easy to groom my dog but Esme made her look wonderful and made working with her less stressful for us both. I'm grateful to have found Esme and that she can groom my pet in her home, making it more comfortable for my pet or she will make house calls if needed.

Jamie did a great job working with my 9 month old Shih Tzu. She had numerous mattes so I opted to have her shaved down for this time. She behaved beautifully under Jamie's guidance. There are still to significant mattes, one under each of her ears that concern me, but we'll get those taken care of. Jamie was prompt, very informative with questions I asked, cleaned up well after himself. All I had to do was sit back and watch. Thank you Jamie for a great experience of in home pet grooming. With five dogs in our house, it took us a long time to decide on a mobile pet care company who could truly listen and mold themselves to our situation. Other companies would try to 'take charge' and tell us how they will only work. Bruce listened to what we wanted and needed and gave us just that. In the end, there are many passionate pet care companies but they aren't thorough. With Bruce, he got the job and kept us up with his truly amazing text messages about our animals and how excited he was to be working with us to care for our dogs. That's the key, "working with us", not so much for us. Bruce makes you feel like he's a friend, and after he was done with our sessions for the week, my wife and I spoke in great detail about that. In the end, you can leave your animal with anyone... I won't. I'm not an easy sell. I trust very few people with my dogs, I'm one of those dog people with no kids... (by choice). What matters in the end is TRUST. Period. You will get that with Bruce... and some really great, in-depth text updates! haha... believe it or not, when you're hundreds of miles away, it helps you sleep by putting a smile on your face, and an ease to your worry. Thanks Groovy Dogs!

V.I.C. is awesome! My pet sitter of 8 years just retired so this was my first time with them but it will certainly not be my last. They are keepers! On top of all the other outstanding qualities I have checked, I loved the feedback provided online by the sitter daily, complete with pictures. It meant a lot to be able to get an update and see my furry ones! Of course everything was perfect when we got home.

Linda was pet sitter (stayed in our home, too) to our cocker spaniel for at least 5-6 yrs before his death Fall 2017. We never worried about the house or Lexus (our dog) any time Linda was there. She was attentive to changes in L’s routines and behaviors and updated us if she felt she needed to do so. She had been his groomer for several years before, therefore, knew his temperament and likes/dislikes. Linda stayed with Lexus for periods of 2 days to over 2 weeks. We always came home to a happy dog and a home as clean (or cleaner) than when we left! Of course, as you would expect, there were a couple of “out of the ordinary” situations Linda ran into. She was resourceful in solving them or called for our help if needed. We loved the occasional pictures she sent assuring us our beloved pet was doing well. Linda would still be our pet sitter today if Lexus were still with us. Should we decide to get another pet, she will be the first person we call for sitting services.

I truly enjoyed having Alpha Omega Mobile Dog Grooming in our lives. They truly expressed their love and care for our four legged children. They are very professional individuals and they their work was absolutely to satisfaction. If there was a little more that needed to be done, their response was positive and the outcome was as well. We will truly miss Alpha Omega Mobile Dog Grooming, they have gone above and beyond a LOT more than what most groomers do or would have.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

What is included in a dog grooming?

Dog grooming is so much more than giving your dog a bath. Dog grooming is a broad term that covers all aspects of canine cleanliness and hygiene. The services included in dog grooming will vary based on your needs and what you choose to pay. Unless they are rolling in cowpies or playing in mud puddles, most dogs are okay getting a shampoo bath only as needed. You’ll know when they need it if they smell bad or are bringing dirt into the house. Some dogs, like shepherds and shih tzus, have thick coats that can get matted and tangled without regular care. Pro dog groomers can deftly blow dry a dog’s hair after a bath so that it is shiny and smooth. Dog grooming can include brushing that detangles dog hair and also thins the undercoat to minimize shedding.

Dog grooming also includes hygiene services such as toothbrushing and ear cleaning. Clean teeth are important to the health of your dog, and the pros have the patience and proper technique to get it done. Regular dog grooming can stave off tear stains, those reddish stains below your dog’s eyes. Anal gland expression is something not many people want to do on their own, even if they love their dog. A dog groomer can safely and efficiently release any blocked anal gland fluid. Other dog grooming services include nail trimming and clipping. Nationally, dog grooming prices range from $60 to $80. Most dog groomers offer discounts to customers who purchase monthly packages or bundle multiple grooming services at one time.

What is a dog groomer?

Keep your family dogs happy, healthy and clean with regular dog grooming. A dog groomer is a business owner or employee of a dog grooming business who specializes in dog hygiene and grooming. To find a reputable dog groomer, research reviews, ask for references and confirm that the groomer has good standing in the dog grooming community.

A dog groomer should be comfortable and competent working with dogs of all breeds and temperaments. Typically a groomer will have trained with other groomers and taken educational courses to keep abreast of the latest safety information and techniques. There are brick-and-mortar dog grooming businesses, as well as mobile dog groomers who bring all their equipment and provide their services at your home or location. In some cases, brick-and-mortar businesses will also pick up and return your dog for an additional fee.

What is a dog groomer?

A dog groomer is a service professional who provides dog grooming and basic hygiene care for your dog. Dog groomers are typically animal lovers who are competent and comfortable working with a wide range of dog breeds and temperaments. Dog groomers are knowledgeable about the care needs for different kinds of dog coats. A poodle will have different haircut needs than a shih tzu, for example, so it pays to have a trained pro provide the proper cut. Good dog groomers know how to safely clean your dog’s teeth, bathe your dog, and cut their nails without going too short. They understand how to trim the hair from around your dog’s face, express anal glands, and clean your dog’s ears. Many people who choose dog grooming as a profession also pursue other dog services such as attending veterinary school, running a doggy day care center, working as a professional dog walker, and more.

How much does it cost to groom a dog?

Dog grooming costs depend on the service your pet requires. Nationally, the average price for dog grooming ranges from $40 to $100, varying by location. Not surprisingly, dog grooming on New York’s Upper East Side costs nearly double what it costs in a small town in Montana. Dog groomers typically handle every aspect of your dog’s beauty and hygiene, from tooth brushing to hairstyling. One potential way to save is to have your dog groomed at your doggy daycare — sometimes they offer discounts on dog grooming prices for clients. Here are some examples of average dog grooming costs in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please note these prices would include transportation fees for picking up and dropping off your dog to your home:

  • Nails: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Toothbrushing: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Tooth scraping (removal of plaque from teeth to prevent infection), with anesthesia: $600
  • Tooth scraping, without anesthesia: $400.
  • Wash and dry: $60
  • Ears: $30 a la carte or $20 when bundled with another service
  • Grooming package: $130 — includes wash, nails, teeth, ears, gland expression and haircut
