Professor Iveth Pavon helped me prepare to take the CLEP exam and test out of Spanish class at my University. I had some prior knowledge in Spanish but she was a huge help and clarified things such as the forms of past tense, future tense and present tense. She also helped me increase my vocabulary amongst other things. Excellent professor for high and low level Spanish lessons, I highly recommend her to anyone looking to learn the language or increase what they already know. I know I certainly did. Also I passed the CLEP :) I don't think I would have without her lessons.

I was looking for someone close by that would be willing to teach Spanish lessons in a face-to-face setting. Jeannette provides me with Spanish lessons 3 times a week at my house. She is punctual and organized. Jeannette will assign homework if you want and is helpful at clarifying any questions you may have. I have recommended Jeanette to several people I know personally and would recommend her to anyone here on this site. I know she also does lessons online if you're so inclined.

I've been working with Jose doing private Spanish lessons for a couple months now. It has been a great experience. Jose is patient, knowledgable, understanding and personable! I feel like I've improved a lot in my abilities - not only with vocabulary but also with practical conversations. He is flexible in his timing and offers a great service for a reasonable price! Highly recommended!

I really got the competence I needed when I took Spanish classes with Maria to the point of having passed the Advanced Level Exam in Spanish Language and Culture. Maria always communicated and explained the material clearly, and maintained an open line of communication with her students. The topics, class work and exams were made and divided appropriately. I liked the demonstrations / examples from the class to help remember the material. It was a good reward for working hard throughout the semester. In general, Maria is knowledgeable, very accessible and made the class pleasant. I highly recommend Maria Aparicio to those who are looking to take Spanish courses at all language levels.

Elena helped me to prepare for the TOEFL exam in 2016. I enjoyed her lessons very much because they were always interesting and informative. Even though I have not taken the exam yet, I feel confident that I received the necessary training in order to get a high score.

The practical needs of the student are always the course's priority. Once the basic elements have been studied, the direction of the course depends on what will be useful for the student. This is ideal for those studying for an examination in Spanish as well as for people heading abroad for a variety of reasons -- travelling, meeting people of other cultures, and doing business overseas! Our general "one-on-one courses" cover student-specific subjects, allowing the user to communicate proficiently in Spanish speaking nations. English Classes The English language is used broadly around the world in many fields. It is a powerful tool of communication that is used by more than a billion people on the planet. It is an official language in more than 50 countries, and it is spoken extensively in countries where it has no official status. It is also one of the official languages of some of the world’s international organizations, such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations and the European Union. The English language plays a major part in the political, economic and cultural life of many countries, making it important for many people for various purposes either for work, education, travel or for leisure. English language learning is one of the trends nowadays, and it is even offered in the English language schools, in countries and cities where English is primarily spoken. Of course, learning a language is best done in a places where it is spoken because you will be exposed to a natural speaking environment, and you will be able to practice what you have learned inside the school, in more practical situations. Though there are a lot of Spanish speakers in Miami, you can still find a good chance to practice your English as it is an important destination in the U.S.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
