Every party I have hosted,I never really got to enjoy. The crew at RUBUS SERVICES, gave me piece of mine, that I could stay out of the kitchen and be with my family and friends.Once I showed them around and what to do ,they took over. I had less stress, and they are such HAPPY PEOPLE! THE BEST WAIT STAFF EVER!

After having my initial event date change, I was worried about hiring a caterer on this site. :/ Actually, our original caterer canceled on us at the last minute, so we gave thumbtack a shot anyway. Chef Jose was quick to reply, and gave us the lowest quote out of the 4 we received. I told him about the bind we were in, and he ultimately told me that that they could make it happen. Chef Jose was easy to talk to and created a list of all of our preferred menu options. Surprisingly enough, he even took note of our favorite restaurants in the area, which I personally think was quite a touch of class. The following morning, Chef Brian called me to inform he had produced 3 menus based on Jose's notes, which appeared in my inbox to discuss. I was beyond amazed as Chef Brian scheduled a tasting at my request the following evening. My son and 2 of his friends, along with my wife and I, arrived to Chef Jose's office and were so impressed as soon as we walked in. The kitchen was all stainless steel, immaculately sanitized, and the tasting area was all set. Chef Brian arranged dish after dish, while Chef Jose described each and gave us a run down of how they would be executed at our event. They even offered us wine and champagne, as well as plenty of treats and items they had been working on earlier in the day. We literally felt like we were recording for a cooking show as both chefs featured some amazing French cheeses and their eclectic collection of different preserves! Oh, and the maple bacon popcorn!!! Oh, em gee...We were totally blown away, and felt so lucky to have our original caterer cancel on us for a more lucrative event. These guys rock!!! Totally seems like this team treats their work like fun as they are so passionate with their menu ideas, personable with their manners, and affable with their warmth for their clients. After how they took care of us, I couldn't help but to write such a thorough review. I highly recommend Chefs Jose & Brian from Dade County Food Group, and will insist that my friends have their functions catered by them, too.

My name is Lucero you can contact me for a direct reference @ lmsaldana@live.com. I am a lawyer by profession and I must admit I am VERY picky. My wedding was on April 19, 2014. I was referred to the Dancing Palate via Thumbtack. The Dancing Palate was AMAZING. Their quality of service and cuisine is unmatched. The guest loved the food. We requested the vegetable crudité, the vegetable quesadillas and the pulled pork a-top of fried plantains as appetizers and the mediterranean chicken and skirt steak as entrees. Everything was delicious and presented in a very classy manner. My wedding turned out perfect. The Chef, Paul Lobeck went out of his way to please me and my husband. His staff was incredibly professional. Their were five members of his staff present. You barely knew they were there. They offered quality service with more than affordable prices. This is a company that you should definitely consider for any occasion. Six of my guest already requested chef Lobeck's business card!!! Before signing on with the company, they offer a tasting. You tell the chef the dishes you want to try and he comes to your house and let's you try each dish. There is no commitment. The company left a great impression on me. I will definitely use their services for other occasions!

We started out just looking for someone to offer catering services to our wedding, but we found so much more with Tasty Creations! Chef David and his wonderful wife, Margarita, went above and beyond in every capacity. From the very first sit down, we knew something good was cookin’. The food was absolutely delicious! We had more variety in flavors with our meal choices than we found anywhere else. This dynamic duo not only provided a stellar meal that is fancy, French-cuisine worthy, they also helped us smooth out all the extra details that made our day a tremendous success. Working with Chef and Margarita, we were able to brainstorm some wonderful ideas that really added a lot of value to our wedding. They made planning and preparing for the big day so much fun and when the day came, they made sure that everything was taken care of so all we had left to do was relax, remembers our vows, and enjoy the day. Thank you Chef and Marga! You made our day an absolute wonder! -Jolly Green & String Bean

I booked this caterer for my wedding on 12/30/17. I'm Jamaican and my husband and I wanted the jerk chicken with rice and pease. We also had the chance to taste the food prior to booking for the wedding. We worked with Kathy and told her what we like and didn't like at the tasting. The food was awesome at the wedding ! I would like for the chef to be recognized. We had so many compliments about the food. To my regret i didn't get the chance to take any pictures of the food. The servers were so kind and punctual. They provided awesome services. Thank you all for the great work.

Ms.Rossana and her husband welcomed my fiancé and I to their home for a cake tasting. She was very caring, very nice and professional. She made me feel so comfortable and asked questions to assure that she understood my vision. Her work is beautiful and exceeded my expectations. Everyone complimented me for the wedding cake, definitely worth every dime and by the way the cake we tasted were extremely exquisite. Super affordable, she will work with your budget and will give you 110 percent. Love , love absolutely love Ms. Rosanna, will definitely use her services again.

Let us start by saying WOW and AMAZING! We are so late writing this review and apologize for that... My husband and I were married back in January of 2016. As many of us that plan a wedding, this was our first time so we did not know what to expect. We planned everything ourselves, found the venue, found a caterer, photographer, Dj etc. We had a budget and it was quickly approaching the maximum. We heard weddings were expensive blah blah blah, but until you pay for one you may never know... We interviewed several Thumbtack bakers and taste tested their product. We met a lot of great candidates, but non of them "took the cake" like Claudia at "Cake it to the limit" Claudia is an artist and a visionary. Jose and I had an idea to incorporate our centerpiece (a silver metal round globe that was a candle holder and had an unusual design to illuminate light) We sent Claudia a picture of the centerpiece and asked her if she could incorporate it into her design. We did not see her idea until the day of, we were amazed! It was elegant, stunning and delicious! Our caterer, Laura, from Laura Ashley catering (also recommended) told us that they have never had a fondant cake that was so easily able to cut and serve. Needless to say we highly recommend this company and have already had the opportunity to recommend her to others. Claudia is professional and a delight to work with. Thankyou for making our day extra special!

We were hosting an engagement party at our house for 20 people and decided to hire Paella VIP to make paella and tostones on-site. It was very easy to coordinate the menu and schedule for the event. Jorge, the owner, was very responsive to our messages and questions. The chef arrived early to setup and start preparing the food, carefully not disrupting any of the other preparations. The food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Everyone had large portions and greatly enjoyed their food. Highly recommended!

Best choice for my wedding! From the moment a met Chefs Valeria and Alex I knew I had made the right choice. They understood the challenges of my venue and the mix of guests, and helped me tailor the menu for the evening. They even crafted a cocktail menu with unique names just for us! The day of the wedding it was all perfect, I heard nothing but great things from all my guests about the food, presentation and professionalism of the staff. It was an overall amazing experience working with this group, they really go out of their way to accommodate and work with you, plus the food its absolutely delicious!! Thank you again! Hulda and Mike!

José was the epitome of a personal chef. I have set up events with chefs before and he blew us away with his professionalism, delicious cooking, and personality as a whole! Jose made the process very easy and he quoted a great price that we were comfortable with. He did not try to rip us off like other chefs try to do. We are all from out of town for a bachelorette party and wanted to do a fun night in to relax and have great food for our last night. He prepared homemade Chinese food with spring rolls, dumplings, fried rice, sticky chili chicken, broccoli, and a delicious chocolate cake cup dessert with vanilla ice cream! His sticky chili chicken had a Peruvian twist and was party favorite! A few of us have a serious peanut and shellfish allergy and he suggested foods to have on the menu and was very responsive to any needs we needed. I would recommend him to anyone and will definitely use if we are back in town! Thank you José!!!

An exceptional class taught by an exceptional Chef! I am working on my culinary certification and had asked Chef Maury's help to polish my skills up. It took a couple of months until I could finally schedule my class (my schedule won't permit) but Chef Maury replied promptly whenever I send him a message. The class itself lasted for about 4 hours, concentrating on knife skills, stock making and basic cooking techniques. He was very keen in making sure I make the right cuts and correcting me right away. His kitchen is a standard home kitchen so you don't have to worry about being intimidated by big equipment. Whether you have a culinary background like I do or just a home cook who wants to learn more, Chef Maury is the right guy to show you the ropes. I am already looking forward to my next class!

Chef davolazala and the staff at Blackelephant events are wonderful. They made the wedding planning process (almost) stress free. They were easy to work with and coordinated a beautiful event dinner at my house this past January. Chef davo handled all the last minute changes (e.g. extra guests, re-configuring seating etc.) with ease. Best thing about it was we knew he would handle the Dinner day so we didn't have to. We had such an amazing dinner and much of the thanks is due to Chef Davolazala and Blackelephant events.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

How much does it cost to hire a caterer?

Catering prices depend mainly on how fancy you want the food and service to be and how many guests you’ll have. When you’re first looking to hire a caterer for your event, consider how many guests you’ll have and your total food and drink budget. The national average for event catering is $340, but catering prices can range into the thousands depending on your menu, guest count, and service.

Event catering is a broad term that covers everything from fully prepared, ready-to-eat food that the hosts plate and serve themselves to full-service, multicourse meals, including rental of linens, glassware and other items, with service staff organized by the catering company. Usually a caterer will determine cost based on the type of event you’re having, how many guests will attend, the level of service you desire, and what type of menu you’d like to have. For example, if you have a set catering budget, say $1,500, and you plan to have 50 people attend, that means you have $30 per person for food. If you have the same budget with 100 people, you have $15 per person for food. In this way, the number of people you want to attend your event and the level of food you want to serve them determines how much catering will cost.

How much should catering cost per person?

Catering prices can range from about $10 per guest on the low end to $150 or more per person on the high end. Catering costs represent the quality of food, presentation, variety, ingredients and service. But catering prices are more than the cost to cook the food that will be at your party; they also include the cost for the company to do business. Here is a simple breakdown of catering prices:

  • Menu: The food you serve your guests will directly affect the price per person. Organic ingredients, complex recipes, elaborate presentations, or high-ticket items like lobster or filet mignon all add to the cost.
  • Service: Buffet, family style, plated dinners — how you serve the food affects the cost per person. For example, a true plated meal can cost about twice the price of a staff-assisted buffet because of staffing costs. Hiring waiters, bartenders and cleanup crew will all be calculated into the per-person catering price.
  • Drinks: Providing beverages and alcoholic drinks for guests greatly increases your catering budget. Hosting an open bar can cost as much per person as the meal.
  • Rentals: Seating, plates, glassware, etc., will all have an effect on the cost per person for catering. For example, a plastic conference table that seats 10 costs about $6 to rent on average, while a wooden farmhouse table is about $80 to rent on average.
  • Business costs: Any catering cost will also include the cost for the company to do business such as insurance, employee wages, commercial kitchen space and more.
