After reading the reviews i decided to hire him and we set a time. He arrived on time and began to set up. Inspecring the attic and ac components actually giving me ideas on what to repair later or on my own. He then began to work deodorizing and cleaning the vents. I was skeptable about the process but after he was done it really worked. The house was cooler the vents were cleaner and blew much stronger. Im definatelt going to recommend him to other family and friends ans ill use him again on other projects.

I contacted Yalel about my AC unit possibly low on freon. Of course it wasn't during normal business hours. It happened on Sunday morning with expected 90+ degree weather and with a newborn baby at home, we couldn't wait. Yalel came over with in an hour and half and diagnosed and fixed the issue. I will be using YN Services again.

The owner, Tommy, is very involved in daily operations and cares about his customers. We had a new AC unit installed and there were some issues. We worked closely with Anthony who provided excellent customer service to get the issues resolved. He and Tommy made sure that we received prompt service and that all our concerns were addressed. We greatly appreciate all of their efforts to make this a good experience!

After going through Thumbtack late Saturday night, Polo responded to my request first thing Sunday, he took time away from his family to speak with me on a Sunday, and the following Tuesday my new AC unit was installed. He came over after work the following day to address a concern I had called him about earlier that day, and was a pleasure to work with. Polo and his assistant, Carlos educated us on the inner workings of the A.C., was on time, professional and conscientious. I will definitely utilize and recommend his service in the future.

Showed up on time to check out our AC unit. Our unit was not cooling down the house. Shalom diagnosed the issue and recommended putting in a refurbished unit that helped save cost. He installed the unit next day and communicated when the job was done as well as sending a picture of the completed work. Very good work overall.

The gentleman was very nice, looked at my unit, and told me I needed a new pump, but since my ac unit is 13 years old, I might want to look into a new ac unit. He flushed the drain pipe and was in and out within an hour.

Excellent service. Showed up right on time and took a look at the job. Very friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to l show the ends and outs. Our AC unit is on its last leg and we are hoping to squeeze a little more out of it before it goes. Showed us what the issue was and what needed to be done after Irma had her way with it. Reasonable prices and free assessment before job is started and now we are back up and happy customers. Will do business with again in the future.

We hired CDG to rejuvenate an existing AC split system in a commercial warehouse and to install new ductwork. This was our first experience with Thumbtack and this vendor. An appointment was set and CDG showed up on time and proposed a cost for which we agreed. The work was scheduled and CDG showed up on time to address the unit and a second date for the ductwork, also arriving on time as schedule. A new pan was installed which was not in the scope of work but needed for which we . We were impressed with the company's performance, follow up, punctuality, professionalism and pricing compared to two other vendors we called in. We are now retaining CDG for service to our 10 AC units in the building. I would highly recommend this company.

Efran is very knowledgeable and professional. My old AC stopped blowing cold air and the first company I asked told me the only solution is to change the entire unit which would cost almost $3000c and in addition need to rent a crane because the roof access was too small. I wanted to have a second opinion so I called Efran. He gave three options based on our budget which are 1) install a new AC, 2) change only the outdoor part and 3) get a used AC and replace some parts. We went with the second option, which saved us a lot of money. He took the new unit in parts so we didn’t have to rent a crane. He also fixed my loud fridge within minutes. I will definitely use efran again.

I was having a problem with my AC unit it was turning on but not cooling. A friend recommended that I call Quality Air of America he used them for a brand new install and was very pleased with there service so I gave them a shot. After speaking to David over the phone he was able to send a tech over the same day. This company is top notch my tech Willy was able to find the problem and got my AC unit cooling within an hour. He checked my AC unit and nothing was loose everything was connected properly and the unit should be working so he tried replacing my thermostat and within minutes I felt the cold air. Very professional and courteous. All that I was charged for was a new thermostat and for the service call. Thank you David and Willy from Quality Air of America.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is an HVAC system?

The letters in HVAC stand for heating, ventilation and air conditioning. An HVAC system enables you to regulate your home or building’s internal temperature (thermal control) for comfortable living and working. You can bring heat levels down in the summer and up in the winter, keeping your home or office livable year-round. HVAC systems can also help with humidity levels and regulate indoor air quality in a home or office. There are many types of HVAC systems and technologies available.

Many homes have a forced-air HVAC system. Both the heating and the central air conditioning units share a ductwork system where they either push in or pull out warm or cooled air. There are also heating and cooling systems that don’t require ductwork — such as ductless mini-splits — but work on the same principles of heat exchange. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670, with costs varying depending on the work you need done and the equipment you are installing.

How many years does HVAC last?

The number of years an HVAC system lasts depend on the type and brand of components that make up your system. The lifespan of an air conditioner averages between 15 and 20 years. The life expectancy of a tankless water heater is approximately 20 years, while a storage water heater is closer to 10-15 years. Ducts may need replacing within 10-15 years. Your equipment will have a longer life if you have regular tuneups and maintenance to keep everything in good working order. If you’re having repair problems and your HVAC system is over 10 years old, it’s a good time to consider the costs and benefits of repairing vs. replacing. Energystar.gov provides the following tips to help you decide whether to repair or replace:

  • Your HVAC system needs frequent repairs and your energy bills are increasing.
  • Your cooling or heating equipment is less efficient.
  • Rooms in your home are too hot or too cold.
  • Your heat pump or air conditioner is more than 10 years old.
    • Replacing your system with an Energy Star-certified unit could save up to 20 percent on your heating and cooling bills.
  • Your furnace or boiler is more than 15 years old.
    • You may choose to replace your system with an Energy Star-certified furnace (which is 15 percent more efficient than a conventional furnace) or an Energy Star-certified boiler (which is 5 percent more efficient).
  • Your home has humidity problems.
  • Your home has excessive dust.
    • Leaky ducts can pull particles and air from attics, crawl spaces and basements and distribute them throughout your house. Sealing your ducts may be a solution.
  • Your heating or cooling system is noisy.
    • You could have an undersized duct system or a problem with the indoor coil of your cooling equipment.
  • Your score on the Home Energy Yardstick is below five.
    • That means your home energy use is above average and you're probably paying too much for your utilities.

How much does it cost to get central air?

Prices for central-air HVAC systems will vary. The national average to hire an HVAC specialist is $2,920-$3,670 but can run as high as $5,000 or even $12,000 depending on the capacity you need and other factors. Installing central air conditioning requires an entire system that works together to draw hot air out of your home. The system includes an outdoor unit, which houses the condenser and compressor, and the evaporator coils. If you don’t have an existing duct system, ductwork will need to be installed, which will affect labor and material costs. Leaking or damaged ducts will also need to be replaced.

How much does it cost for a new air conditioning unit?

If you’re ready for a new air conditioning unit, it’s time to start exploring HVAC prices. The price will vary depending on the type of air conditioner you buy and its cooling capacity. Window units, which require minimal installation, are one of the most affordable options on the market. If you’re purchasing from a big-box store, you can expect to pay approximately $120-$1,000 for a window unit. Window units are appealing for their quick setup and relatively low cost, but they can use more energy over time than central air and only cool the room in which they’re installed. Portable air conditioners don’t have the cooling power of a window unit, but they do have the perk of being transportable from room to room. Expect to pay between $225 and $800 for a portable air conditioner, on average. For a whole-house air conditioning system with coils, condenser and line (not including installation or ductwork), the cost from a big-box store can range from approximately $2,000 to $4,000 or more. If you don’t have (and don’t want to put in) ducts, a ductless mini-split air conditioner is a good option, although pricey up front. Pricing can range from $650 to $4,250 per unit on average; you’ll need one unit for each room in which you want temperature control.
