I was looking for a Makeup Artist to do my makeup for my sons's wedding. I booked a trial appointment with her based on her outstanding reviews. She arrived promptly and did an amazing job. I then booked her for the wedding and as expected, she arrived promptly at our appointment time. Bri has a cheerful and friendly personality. She made me feel very comfortable and did exactly what I wanted. She was perfect! I would definitely hire her again! Thanks Bri!

I hired Courtney and her team to do hair and makeup for my bridal party for my wedding on June 24th at the Delray Sands Resort in Highland Beach, Florida. The entire team was amazing. Everyone absolutely LOVED their hair and makeup. Not only do these girls know how to make a gal pretty, but they are the nicest people EVER!! I felt like they were all my friends, and they were just as excited for my big day as my bridesmaids were. I could not have been happier with their services. I wish they lived in Chicago so I could hang out with them! Haha. Thanks girls for making the morning of my wedding day stress-free and fun. xoxo

My experience with AM GLAMM for my wedding was great. I searched for what seemed forever to find a team that would do both hair and makeup in the Lauderdale area. I originally booked with Martha for makeup and was bummed that she ended up not being available on my wedding day after I did a trial with her, but her replacement Wendy was excellent and Martha was sure to still make the experience favorable. I had Karolina do mine and the bridal party’s hair and she did AMAZING! I highly recommend her! Thank you for a favorable experience and working with me to fix things and assure me all would still be great on my wedding day Martha.

I had Farah do my bridal henna as well as henna for my henna party. She came to my house on Wednesday to do my bridal henna and one strip for 5 of my bridesmaids. She was so quick and professional, I am still amazed at her design skills. Her free hand work is amazing! I have already referred Farah to another bride, who hired her and loved her work as well, and will continue to promote her business. Thank you again Farah!

Glad I hired Michelle as my makeup artist for a party. She was prompt, professional and most importantly had an amazing personality! She asked a lot of questions to make sure I received the makeup job I wanted. I decided to let her do what she does best; letting her use my face as a blank canvas. She chose foundation over airbrush, my eye color, lipstick etc. I am glad I let her choose everything! I looked absolutely spectacular and it was all because I trusted her expertise! She really knows what she is doing! During my makeup application, I loved how she would tell me in detail what she was doing at that moment and what product she was using. She gave me a lot of recommendations! Michelle is definitely one of the best makeup artists in South Florida! Hire her....you won't regret it!

Patti did my hair and makeup for my wedding and she was wonderful! First of all, her fun and laid back personality put this nervous bride at ease and contributed to the happy atmosphere in the bridal room. My hair and makeup looked beautiful! She stayed extra time to touch me up after a beach photo shoot. My makeup lasted all day and looked great. She was patient and flexible with the different bridal party hair and makeup requests. I would highly recommend Patti to any bride!

I can’t say enough about Amanda! She is a true hardworking professional who is an artist with hair and makeup. I do not wear much makeup aside from a little eyeshadow, liner and mascara. For my wedding day I wanted something special. I wanted the pictures to really stand out from my standard look. I have oily skin and was really worried about it staying put all night. I chose the Runaway bride package with airbrush makeup, lashes and hair. I will say, it takes time, be sure to factor that in! This is not a fast process- but a complete transformation that will make you feel beautiful and pampered. My makeup and hair lasted ALL night and came off easily once I was home using makeup remover. I never broke out or had to retouch. My skin was like satin (FAR from what it normally looks like!)- I absolutely LOVED it! My pictures will be a permanent reminder of how lovely Amanda made me look on my special day. Thank you!

Hiring Diana was the right move. We had a short video to produce, but since it was a horror theme we needed someone who should do beauty makeup as well as horror. Diana's beauty makeup was creative and transformative. Her use of color and technique are among the best I have seen. Her Zombie work was exceptional and realistic. She was able to do a variety of zombie looks quickly. The wounds and lacerations were very realistic and the end result would make the walking dead envious!

Nikita is an amazing make up artist. She did make up for my entire bridal party including myself and she was outstanding. She payed so much attention to detail and made sure that we all looked perfect. Even through all the tears that were shed on my wedding day our make up stayed perfect through the entire evening without having to do touch ups. I am so glad she was with me for my big day and I will definitely continue to use her for special occasions in the future. She is a true artist.

My Cancun Wedding Initial Meeting: Paula and I met for our first trial a few months before the wedding. After I left the meeting I decided that I was not happy with the look we achieved at our trial and contacted her. Paula was very accomodating and told me to go back for a 2nd trial because as she said "it is your day and you need to love your look." 2nd Trial: At the second trial Paula tried different things on me and helped me figure out what I wanted. Wedding Day: Paula had to do makeup for me and 7 other people on my wedding day.... She worked it too! It was a long morning but each of us left very happy after getting up from her chair. I was very lucky to have her their on my special day...Thank you!!!!

Sheena is a great makeup artist. She did my makeup for my prom and my graduation and I received so many compliments from people. She is great at blending different color eyeshadows and making eyebrows look nice. I will definitely go back to Sheena to get my makeup done again.

I hired Ashni to do my makeup for my wedding. Being some one who is extremely particular about the looks I go for and the products that go on my skin, I was made to feel at ease by Ashni who made sure she spoke to me prior to the event about what I was looking for, what I was comfortable with, and what products she would be using for my skin type. She made sure my look was non-cakey and natural. She is extremely professional, detail oriented, and she strives for perfection in her work. Her high quality work and pleasant personality have made her my go-to makeup artist and she is someone I would highly recommend to any one looking to get their makeup done for special occasions.

I don't know what I would have done without April for my wedding. From finding me my dream dress, flower girl dresses, tuxedos, bridesmaids dresses, a hairstylist and doing my bridal party's makeup...there is no one I would have rather worked with. Her patience kept me calm, her talent was off the charts and her drive to make people feel and look beautiful with makeup is just amazing. I loved how she is able to enhance beauty and yet keep everything naturally enhanced. Thank you April!!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

How much do wedding makeup artists cost?

A wedding means love, celebration and tons of wedding photos. Professional wedding makeup artists have you looking your best on your big day and forever after in your wedding photos. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, although this price can increase based on your location, the extent of the makeup services and the reputation of the makeup artist. Most wedding makeup artists offer discounts to brides who book group services for their maids, mothers and flower girls at the same time. Wedding makeup artists who also do wedding hair usually offer package rates for hair and makeup combos. Here are some examples of average wedding makeup pricing:

    • Bridal makeup: $85-$125. Pricing often includes full face, eyes, lips, brows and false eyelashes. Airbrush makeup may be an additional $20 or more.
    • Bridal hair and makeup: $150-$200.
    • Bridesmaid and bridal party makeup: $50-$100 per person.
    • Bridesmaid hair and makeup: $100-$150.
    • Flower girl makeup: $25-$35.
    • Trial sessions: $60-$120, depending on the makeup artist. Some charge their full rate and others charge a partial rate for trial makeup services.
    • Hourly rates to stay on and keep makeup touched up throughout reception: $35-$75 per hour.
    • Travel fees: 50 cents to $1 per additional mile beyond a set radius — such as 50 miles.

Do I need a makeup artist for my wedding?

There are no rules around your wedding day, and that means it’s your choice whether to have a wedding makeup artist. If you’re on the fence about hiring a wedding makeup artist, consider the pros and cons. Some women decide against a wedding makeup artist to save money. The national average cost for a wedding makeup artist is $70-$100, which is an expense some women prefer to do without. Other women just don’t love wearing makeup. Some brides have friends or family members who are talented makeup artists willing to provide their services. If you choose not to have a wedding makeup artist, be sure to do at least two trial runs of your makeup look well before the wedding day to avoid any morning-of panic.

On the other hand, a wedding makeup artist can make the bride feel pampered and confident, giving her a flawless, fabulous look for the ceremony and reception and in wedding photos. For brides who are uncomfortable with heavy makeup, many wedding makeup artists usually excel at the natural look. Many brides consider wedding makeup part of the ritual and tradition of the ceremony, a shared experience with the entire bridal party. Ultimately your choice of whether to hire a wedding makeup artist should be based on what will make you feel most confident and happy.

How do you choose the right makeup artist for your wedding?

A wedding makeup artist can ensure a flawless look on your big day. Finding the perfect person isn’t all about price, though. Here are tips for choosing the right makeup artist for your wedding:

    • Research before reaching out. Wedding makeup artists should have an online presence with portfolios of their work. Find someone with an aesthetic you love.
    • Read reviews. You want a wedding makeup artist who’ll be on time, do beautiful work, and add a positive vibe to your day. Pay attention if previous clients report bad experiences with a makeup artist.
    • Consider skin tones. If your bridal party has a range of skin tones, make sure your wedding makeup artist and assistants are experienced and talented working with everyone.
    • Is your top pick available on your date? If so, put down a deposit to secure their services.
    • Confirm rates and payment. Clearly discuss prices and payment plans, and sign a detailed contract so there are no surprises on your wedding day.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.
