He was right on time and even came a little early. He did a great job putting the cabinet together and looks great in my kitchen. He also hung a bamboo blind for me. If you want to have the work done right for the right price, hire George. You won't be disappointed.

Gary and his team did an outstanding job on our landscaping. He is professional and listened to what we wanted. His design for both the front and back of our home looked awesome. His landscape foreman, Juan is a rock star. We would recommend Legacy Landscaping Services to our friends and neighbors.

Bogden was the first one to respond to my bid, professional at first glance so I took a chance. You never know what you're going to get, I've learned not to have high hopes! Bogden showed up 5 minutes early on the day he said he was coming to evaluate my outside well pump (didn't work, rusted out, needed complete replacement.) I could immediately tell he knew his stuff--completely competent, he seemed like the jack of all trades, so I hired him. He showed up with his son on the day promised, on time, and did exactly what I wanted him to. I now have a working outdoor well which hadn't worked in years. While we were testing it, we noticed a leak in one of the pipes that wasn't related to the job--he said he would be back Monday to evaluate it, and I have no doubt that he will. I learned that he also does all home improvement, loves woodworking--thats great because I plan on hiring him to install crown molding and possibly a kitchen remodel! I truly lucked out--I believe I found a very skilled handyman! Woohoo!

Donna & Denise give me & my husband a better feel/direction on how we should proceed in renovating our condo and kitchen giving it a more cohesive feel. When we complete our kitchen remodel, I'll be contacting them again for their expertise in our next stage of updating our condo in the future. I'm very glad I decided to use Thumbtack.com. This is my second time in using this website and had excellent results in matching our needs and services.

George Sanders of Sanders Built did a wonderful job on the complete remodel of our interior and the quality of the work was of the highest standard and done on a timely basis. In addition to normal reconstruction, he undertook adding support in the craw space to level the floors, routed stove exhaust from the center of the kitchen concealing it through the existing walls, and reconstructed an unstable exterior wall from the interior room saving substantial money. As a CPA not in construction, I didn't expect my suggestion for changes to the existing layout would be considered. However, I found they were welcomed, improved with sound suggestions and the results completely satisfactory to my family. I will definitively use this construction company for future projects with my properties. Dale Zentz

John Reece was a pleasure to work with on home remodel including complete kitchen remodel, new floors, relocating front door and windows and updates to bathroom. John shared great insights for ideas at every stage of the project. His professionalism and communication were key, as we were working with him from out of state. As with any remodel, expected to find things along the way and he had great ideas - both quality and affordable options. His work is high quality and was ahead of schedule. We are thrilled with the results and highly recommend John Reece & Associates.

We purchased a condo with a builders' grade kitchen. We hired Dan Biggs to design and install new kitchen cabinets. He designed a new configuration, giving us maximum storage space. His price was reasonable and he finished the work in a timely manner. We were so happy with the outcome that we hired Dan to redo our master bath, as well. We would not hesitate to recommend Dan Biggs to anyone considering new cabinets.

I highly recommend Kristin to anyone who is looking for a full home custom design plan as well as someone looking for a single room or a refreshed look. Her taste and style are both sophisticated and sensible. I was so impressed with how well and how quickly she captured my style, as well as how quickly she is able to make design decisions. She really has a great eye. I hired Kristin for my living and dining room as well as a custom kitchen island. The contractors she brought were professional, produced quality work and did so within my tight budget. I will absolutely be hiring her again for our master suite remodel. Kristin is super easy to work with, responsive in her communication and a tremendous value- hire her now before she gets her own TV Show.

Richard and Chris did a remodel of my master bath and another bathroom. They are organized, responsive, easy to work with, price is very fair, and the job was completed on time and on budget. They clean up every day when they are finished working and make as little mess as is possible. I have recommended them to my friend for her bathroom remodel, and I will use them again when I re-do my outdoor kitchen area. Very pleased with the results - my bathrooms look great.

Sept. 10th, 2015 I would like to recommend Joan Greenfield of Moderne Interior Design. We chose Joan because of her expertise in modern interior design, her degree and license, her 29 years of experience, her varied body of work, AND, her enthusiasm. My Husband and I found her to be creatively talented, service-oriented, with a friendly, outgoing attitude that she easily maintained, while remaining solution focused. She has great communication, listening and organizational skills, and always kept us informed. She displayed a high degree of integrity, efficiency, and responsibility, giving generously of her time. She was always willing to do more than what was required. She is dedicated to her profession and brought interesting ideas to our home. She made our design process easy, as we weren't able to be in town much. My Husband and I loved working with Joan and we want to give our wholehearted endorsement! Amy and Victor Mitchell

Jentry has managed every aspect of my total condo remodeling job -- everything from finding an excellent contractor to locating the perfect furniture. All of the craftsmen Jentry hired (like my cabinet maker and the people installing my ceramic tile) are doing top-notch work. I love Jentry's design taste. And her professionalism and integrity have made working with her a pleasure. I would recommend Jentry to anyone looking for a "full-service" designer who can handle their large or small job. thanks

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
