Outstanding team of lawyers who are not afraid to do whatever it takes to win. I first met them because i needed help regarding an injunction. I was scared and not sure what to do. They made me feel safe. They explained to me the procedure and worked really hard on my case. Due to their hard work we won the case. I am really happy i chose Rania Arwani and Lacy Nava as my attorneys. They are simply the best!!! A.T.

Was a little skeptical initially hiring a divorce attorney on thumbtack. Could not be happier that I did. Jerry's experience in family law became a great asset to me through what could have been a very rough road. Communication was always there and he took time to explain why and how we would proceed through the different steps necessary to ensure my best interest took precedence. I will refer him whenever possible.

I was representing a client in an extremely complex marriage dispute, where the personalities of the parties did not make settlement any easier, let alone having their physical presence in the same room together. Mr. Hickman did a marvelous job handling this dispute and was successful in getting both sides to compromise even where there was no daylight to do so before. His approach, negotiating skills, brutal honesty, his patience, and his ability to make the parties feel empowered, were not only impressive but tactfully employed at the right times. As an attorney, I was happy to see my client have a say in the outcome of their divorce. As for my client... ... ... well, their just happy it's over! Thanks, Dwayne.

I’ve had extensive experience with attorneys in the past, transactional attorneys, (corporate, contract attorneys) litigation attorney’s, family law (divorce, child custody) even criminal defense lawyers when my son got into some trouble. I never thought it would happen to me, but I found myself in the fight of my life looking at literally DECADES in prison if I was convicted and I never served more than a day in jail! SCARED TO DEATH, I consulted with 5 criminal defense attorneys leaving with reservations every time, scare tactics, non-chalet attitudes, exorbitant retainers, vaguely answered questions, some seeming more interested in how I was paying vs the specifics of my case. I wasn’t sure what to do! I spent hours researching, networking, trying to find the right attorney that was knowledgeable, tenacious, with a proven track record that would fight for me; then I found attorney Michael T. Mackhanlall. First, his AVVO rating was a perfect 10 out of 10. At the time he had over 58 reviews from his clients on AVVO and they were all 5 STAR REVIEWS! When reading his client reviews, some adjectives used to describe Michael T Mackhanlall are professional, knowledgeable, trustworthy, honest, hard-working, diligent, tenacious, razor-sharp, efficient, effective, attentive, noble, comforting, insightful, eloquent, and highly respected in the legal community. He even had over 40 attorney endorsements at the time! I researched practically every criminal defense lawyer in Orlando and encountered many criminal defense attorneys with decades more experience than Mr. Mackhanlall, but with less than 1/10 of the accolades he’s received from clients and attorneys alike in just a few years of practice! I read his bio and found he served in the Airforce and was chosen for Airman of the year in 2005; to put that into perspective there were over 330,00 active duty airman in 2014; that’s a big deal! I thought Mike Mackhanlall was too good to be true! But after meeting with Mike, I knew like many others he was the one, he would definitely fight for me, I felt all the accolades were true and Mike Mackhanlall proved it many times during the fight of my life and he was by my side every step of the way! He explained what happened to me from a legal perspective, he told me what would happen in the future, what the opposition was aiming for, he articulated a plan of action and to top it off his fees were very reasonable and cost effective for such a knowledgeable lawyer! When I left his office I slept all night for the first time in months! He predicted everything that eventually happened, Mike always made me feel like my case was top priority, he answered my calls and emails promptly, he was proactive and would just pop up with useful tidbits of information, updates, reminders HE CONTACTED ME WITHOUT ASKING MANY TIMES AND IN MY EXPERIENCE LAWYERS RARELY ARE SO PROACTIVE! I Felt like he was fighting for me as hard as he would fight for himself! The most impressive part was how he argued my case using legal precedents, the opposition having an ah-ha moment realizing “oh we can’t do that” then Mike took over & it seemed like the opposition worked for him; he ran over them like a MACK TRUCK LOL! I received the best outcome for my situation and I’m convinced without Mike fighting for me I would be in a different place right now! If I could turn back the clock I would have used Mike Mackhanlall for my separation, divorce and child custody cases, I’m sure the outcome would have been better with Mack Law P.A on my side! THANKS MIKE!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

    • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
    • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
    • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
    • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
    • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
    • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
    • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

    • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
    • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
    • Have an ownership stake in a business
    • Expect someone to contest your will
    • Want to disinherit your spouse

How much does it cost to have a living will?

Either a family attorney or an estate, or wills, attorney can help you prepare a living will, either as part of your general estate planning or as an individual document. The cost typically ranges from $250 to $500, depending on your attorney’s fees; some charge by the hour, while others have a flat rate for writing a living will. Some states require living wills to be notarized, which adds an average of $5 to $15. In a living will — also called an advanced healthcare directive — you specify whether you want to be kept on life support if you become terminally ill or lapse into a persistent vegetative state. You can also answer other important questions in a living will like your preferences for tube feeding, artificial hydration and pain medication in situations when you cannot communicate your wishes on your own.

Do I need a real estate lawyer?

Whether you need a real estate lawyer depends on what kind of legal assistance you need. In many states (such as Vermont and Maine), you are required to hire a real estate lawyer to handle the closing documents of a home sale. The lawyer may prepare the deed, examine the title, review purchase and sale paperwork, work directly with the lender, and more. In title states such as California and Nevada, you do not need a real estate lawyer to buy or sell a home. Typically sales are handled by escrow agents, title companies or lenders. However, you may opt to hire a real estate lawyer to handle closing — even if it’s not required — to ensure your interests are protected.

You may also need a real estate lawyer are when you are negotiating a large property purchase or development deal, or if you are declaring bankruptcy or have a property that’s going into foreclosure. If a property dispute has escalated beyond mediation, a real estate lawyer can advocate for your interests. If you prefer to remain (relatively) anonymous in property ownership, you may have a real estate lawyer represent you and negotiate deals for you. It can be a costly investment, with national average hourly rates ranging from $150 to $350 or more, but legal representation can offer peace of mind and protection of your financial interests.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
