We got Eddie to remove an island of landscaping in the back yard that was attracting bugs and insects. He got it done quickly and within a reasonable price. We would definitely hire Eddie again if the need arises.

Jeff did an awesome job. Hurricane Irma made a mess, but Jeff did a great job of repairing my lawn and plants. Punctual, courteous, and professional. I would highly recommend him to my friends and family.

We could not be more pleased with the work that was done by G&Y. We had a big project that included demolition of old plants and weeds, new irrigation, new sod, flower beds in the front yard, shrubbery to cover electrical boxes, cable boxes, and the air condition, and a large paved area in our backyard. Everything turned out beautiful! I have included before and after pictures. Robert and his crew were amazing. Robert was very responsive and detailed. Our HOA required an itemized list of all plants and shrubs that were being installed as well as a drawing of the landscaping being done and he was one of the few landscapers we spoke to who was willing to draw something up. As with any big project, we had a few hiccups along the way, including the removal of big tree roots where the paved patio was being laid. Robert was honest and detailed about our options and gave my husband and I time to discuss before proceeding with the project. The front yard now looks fresh and clean and we are enjoying our backyard paved area. Thank you G&Y!

I would definitely use Executive Landscaping again. Mathew and his team were professional and he was fare in his pricing. He was hired to remove a tree which turned out to be a bigger challenge than it seemed at the time of my request on Thumbtack. Being a landscaper and not a tree removal company, the tree was much larger than Mathew and his team expected. Regardless of the challenge, he accepted the responsibility. They continued to work even when it rained and when they had a momentary problem with their equipment. I gave them 4 out of 5 stars only because I had to arrange a separate pick up with Waste Pro for an additional cost to haul away some of the tree waste. In all fairness, Mathew took as much of the stump and branches that his equipment could hold. As previously stated, I would definitely hire them again as well as recommended their services!

We needed to have our sprinklers updated b/c of some new landscaping and have some problem areas adjusted. Ironclad provided a free estimate and was able to get it done the next day. Bret's knowledge of landscaping and sprinkler systems is second to none. His common sense approach to our situation was appreciated. We will use Bret and Ironclad in the future.

More importantly, they were helpful with plant choices and design. The owner and his crew were hard-working, professional and experienced. It was refreshing to see landscapers take pride in their job! I highly recommend them for any landscaping project. In fact, I plan on hiring them again without reservation.

Pablo and The crew was prompt, responsive and cleaned up after themselves each day. He worked within our budget and created a complete landscape experience as oppose to just installing plants. He utilized plants, artificial turf and ground cover to give us a very unique but usable landscape design. His knowledge of his products and how they related to our conditions was exceptional and was able to convey that to us in a way we understood. We would highly recommend Firefly Landscaping Contractors to anyone looking for that WOW landscape experience. And will definitely use them again for other projects we have Property is a Downtown Lake Lawsona District with back yard 50ft wide by 60 deep to work with

Ivan is very professional and fair in his price quote. He arrived with his guys at 7:30 am and was finished by 12 pm. His crew did an amazing job of cutting back 4 trees and clearing out bushes in the backyard. They also laid down mulch and planted a few plants. I will definitely hire him again and again...I recommend Imperial Landscaping of CFL for landscaping services.

Josh was very professional, punctual and did a great job in trimming and cleaning up trees, removing debris and going above and beyond. I will definitely be using him in the future. As you can see, the trees and patio were quite the mess. The area and fence is all cleaned up. Heck, I didn't even know I had a BBQ Grill under all that mess. I've tipped the table to remove it. Hope you can view photos and see what a great job. Josh cut and hauled off all debris and there was a lot. Thanks, Josh!

I had a new lawn with garden lighting installed by lawn and beyond. They did a great job and explained how to take proper care for the new sod. The landscaper showed up to do the estimate shortly after I requested a quote, had to negotiate a little but overall my lawn renovation was worth the money.

Austin was very quick and worked with us on getting out to give us a very detailed estimate. I loved the online links! He was able to get the job done quickly and efficiently! We wanted more length after we finished the project and he quickly ordered more bricks and finshed the last portion just like the first. He was very professional and true to his word. He did an excellent job. Would totally hire him back again!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
