I met with many different photographers for my wedding in New Hartford. I found weefan and decided to meet with them. I met with Charlie who only after a few minutes of speaking with him and looking at some of his old work , I knew right away he was the best for my wife and I. He had no problems traveling, and was very flexible and accommodating to all of our special requests. Our photographers Charlie and Brian were fantastic ! If you're looking for awesome photographers, these are definitely the guys. The amount of energy, focus, and dedication they gave to us was incredible. Thanks again Charlie and Brian you guys truely made our special day, a day to remember.

While searching for a photographer, my fiance and I were extremely careful in choosing someone to capture our special moments, the way we imagined. We searched through a lot of photographers that did not represent what we had envisioned; that's when we came across Mario Wills Photography. When we saw our photos for the first time, the quality exceeded our expectations. We had such an amazing time shooting the photos with Mario, and his lovely wife, Petra, and they made us feel so comfortable and relaxed. We can't wait to have them shoot our wedding photos! Mario's vision and attention to detail, shown by his images, proved to us that he wasn't what everyone else seemed to be, just a person with an expensive camera.

Working with Nate and his team was a DREAM!!! Communication was easy from the beginning, they were punctual, professional, and the work is exceptional! All of the guests at our wedding commented on how nice Nate and Lorenzo were. They even went above and beyond the call of duty and ended up playing basketball with our nephews! I could not have asked for a better overall experience and I HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Scintillating Culture!!

Jack was an incredible photographer for my husband's and my wedding! From the very beginning Jack was always very professional, addressing any and all concerns in a timely manner. The efficiency at how he responds to every single request no matter how big or small it is still amazes me! Every single email that I sent him, I would get such a fast response! He really was very professional not only in the sense that he was on time for everything, but also in terms of QUALITY of his photos and the amazing TALENT that he has in getting the right angle, lighting, and positioning everything just right to get the perfect pictures. I was so impressed and so happy with the pictures that he took of our wedding day that I couldn't stop raving about him to all my friends and acquaintances on my Facebook page! All my family and friends who went to the wedding also complimented the beautiful pictures that Jack Edwards took. Another thing is that he returned ALL of our wedding pictures in a matter of just a few days when normally other photographers take forever to return your pictures. I would recommend Jack Edwards in a heartbeat! He'll get all the pictures you need no matter what your event is and will be the most professional photographer you will encounter. So be at peace when selecting Jack as your photographer knowing that you will have hired the right person.

I first heard Mike DJ at a community event a few years ago and I was very impressed with his professionalism, jazzy style and overall performance. When it came time to hire a DJ for my wedding, I knew he was the guy for the job. I discussed my taste in music/wedding style and he expanded upon my selections perfectly. The reception flowed nicely and the crowd was well entertained. He also added special effects with lighting which created a very romantic feel to the dance floor. I have no regrets and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a DJ.

Ravina showed up on time and didn't leave until all the requisite wedding shots were covered, even ones I didn't think about. She had an artistic eye and directed us to get some (hopefully) awesome pictures. I'd highly recommend her

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

How much does it cost for a photographer for a wedding?

Finding the right wedding photographer can make a big difference for your ceremony. Nationally, the average wedding photographer’s price ranges from $800 to $1,000, but costs can be much higher in areas like Chicago, New York or Los Angeles where some couples spend $2,000 to $5,000 or more for the photographer they want. Factors that can affect your wedding photographer prices include the photographer’s reputation and experience. Heavy hitters can command top rates, especially during wedding-season weekends. Day of the week also affects your cost. You may get a $200 discount on wedding photographer prices if you get married on a Friday in November rather than a Saturday in June. Time onsite is also an important cost factor. Hiring a photographer to snap photos from the moment you wake up until after last call at the reception is going to cost more than five hours of pictures during the day. Multiple photographers, special lighting, and videography will also increase your costs. Ultimately you want to find someone who has a style you love and can provide the number of edited shots you want for a price you can handle. Learn more about hiring a wedding photographer.
