"I asked Kenyata to give both my parents massages in their home, having just talked to her on the phone and telling her about my parents' needs. My parents had a few poor massage experiences, but absolutely loved how sweet and courteous she is, and said that they received excellent massages. They were so satisfied, and the price so reasonable, I plan on getting both my parents massages every two weeks!"

"I have been very impressed with how Dr. Gampolo runs his practice! Prices are very reasonable and Dr. Gampolo was awesome! During my initial visit with him, he examined my posture (now I’m constantly trying to pull my shoulders back) and my spine. He also spent time getting to know my history, my aches/complaints, and what I wanted out of future visits. I randomly told him about some non-related back pain while we were talking, not expecting any suggestions. Well, he shows me a chart that explains how countless issues with your body actually relate to your spine! (And he wasn’t trying to “sell” me on getting adjustments like other chiropractors have done in the past!) I felt comfortable talking with Dr. Gampolo! I am happy I found my new favorite chiropractor who is so passionate about helping people."

"Sean was on-time and professional. Gave a great deep tissue massage. I had tried several other therapists, but he was the only one who put me completely at ease and worked out the pain I was having in my back from my work. We now have standing appointments. A God send!"

"Yolanda is WAY more than a massage therapist - she is a healer. She has helped heal my rotator cuff shoulder, my planters fascities, my hip sciatica, etc., through various treatments she includes with her massage. She is the best!"

"This place was amazing! The staff was so nice! I called and asked several questions before scheduling my appointment. They took the time to answer each one. If you are trying to get pregnant please give them a call. I'm 35 years old and going through my second round of IVF. I wanted to incorporate acupuncture in hopes of a better outcome. Dr. Tynes was wonderful. She took the time to listen, ask questions, and explain what my treatment plan would look like in order to increase my chances of getting pregnant. The atmosphere of the office was so relaxing and inviting. They offered me alkaline water and an assortment of organic teas. During my treatment I was offered aromatherapy and fertility guided imagery music. I've never experienced anything like this before. I will definitely stick to my treatment plan. I feel so optimistic about getting pregnant. Oh, and the price was unbeatable for all that you receive."

"Sylvia is the best! I feel the massage starts from the beginning when you meet and she's always so inviting and chill, which puts you in that space. She wants to know what's going on with you and your body so she can meet your needs. And her massages are heaven sent. I deal with arthritis issues and joint stiffness due to an autoimmune disease and I am seriously thinking of making her a part of my wellness program. I actually wish I could keep her to myself. I feel like I have my own secret masseuse and I really don't want to share her. Try her, you'll love her services!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
