Introduction: PLEASE NOTE: A CHOICE OF IN-PERSON LESSONS OR ONLINE LESSONS IS NOW BEING OFFERED. HANDWASHING, HAND SANITIZER, MASKS, AND DISINFECTANT WIPES AND SPRAYS WILL ALL BE USED. STUDENTS WILL HAVE NO CONTACT WITH ANYONE OTHER THAN ME. I HAVE RECEIVED THE VACCINE. PROSPECTIVE VOICE STUDENTS: ONLINE LESSONS ARE NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO THE VARIOUS ISSUES WITH SOUND THAT I FEEL PREVENT EFFECTIVE ONLINE LESSONS, ESPECIALLY FOR BEGINNERS. IN-PERSON VOICE IS BEING OFFERED NOW. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED, CONTACT ME AND LET'S MAKE ARRANGEMENTS. I take my work as a voice, piano and music theory teacher seriously and strive to give each student the personalized teaching method that works best for them. I do not limit myself to one set of instruction books, and I analyze each student to find their strengths and build on them while also identifying where they will need extra attention. My goal is a pianist or singer with a solid technique, thorough knowledge of music and their instrument and a love of their music. A rapport between student and teacher is essential. Music is intensely personal and a trust must be felt in order for the student to feel comfortable enough to sing or play in my presence. I try to develop natural voices and pianists and strongly encourage my students to let themselves develop into an original musician, not a copy of someone already out there. I am a classically trained soprano and pianist with a large repertoire of both classical and musical theatre music, but my students sing and/or play all types of music, be it pop, rock, the American songbook, gospel, choral, barbershop, Christian, Judaica, opera, sacred or virtually everything else! I performed professionally in many different music venues for over 20 years, so I have a lot of experience from which my students can learn. I can prepare students for musical theater auditions, competitions, college auditions, solo tryouts and everything else they may encounter in their musical life. I love developing a relationship with each student, getting to know a bit about them and their dreams, how they feel about music. I love the satisfaction on a student's face when they successfully play or sing a piece at recital or other performance and realize they have done something special with the gift God gave them. Most of all, I enjoy communicating my love of music to my students and having them develop a love for it as they learn to express it through their piano or voice training. It is a privilege to teach any subject, but particularly music since it is my biggest passion.

Madeline N.

I have been taking piano lessons from Ms. Bev for over 8 years now and she has been nothing but kind and helpful. I have learned music technique, history, and theory from her and I have improved greatly since I began taking lessons at the age of 8. She is very fun and incredibly passionate about music.

Ms. Beverly was my first vocal coach out of three. She is knowledgeable, skilled, generous and a great communicator! I spent about three years with her as a student, and if I was still in town, I would take lessons with her. Her price is extremely reasonable and her investment in people is priceless. Choose her.

My daughter has been learning from her for almost seven years. She is very good with kids, gives good advice, and is patient with many things. She also makes learning fun!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

$90 per month for half-hour piano or voice lessons weekly. $180 per month for 60-minute voice or piano lessons weekly. $135 per month for 45-minute piano or voice lessons. $160 per month for 2 students in 1 family taking a half-hour each. I charge a materials and music fee of $30 once per year which covers everything needed for lessons. The monthly tuition is based on 48 lessons per year spread over 52 weeks. There are 4 weeks off, consisting of Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring break.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I like to have an informal first lesson in order to get acquainted with the new member of my musical family. We talk school or work, interests, hopes and dreams, etc. If the student is a beginning pianist, I explain and show the workings of the piano and then introduce them to their first lesson book. A student who has studied before is usually evaluated and placed in the appropriate book over the first two or three lessons. Beginning voice students are introduced to basic technique through warm ups and simple songs. More advanced students also are evaluated and exercises and repertoire chosen for their level of progress. Students are welcome to bring any music from school to their lessons when they need help.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I hold a bachelor's and a master's degree in music, both education and performance, and certification to teach public school music K-12 in New Jersey. I practice daily and belong to several online groups which discuss all aspects of teaching music and belong to the National Federation of Music Clubs and The Orlando Music Club. I have my master's but I have many textbooks and reference books on hand for research.
