James did a wonderful job! I live out of state and needed multiple items fixed and some painting done in my vacant rental house. He is professional and skilled. After first speaking with him, I was confident he would be reliable and do quality work. He delivered as promised and I'm very happy I found him on Thumbtack! don't hesitate to hire him!

They did a great job and they did it fast. Other quotes said I needed 2 coats of paint and that it would take a day and half to do the job, which was not needed and cost more. I highly recommend Derrick. Great job!

TB was quick to reply to request and work out schedule. Great communications and follow up, this is highly unusual but very important. I had some plumbing ( garbage disposal for sink, faucet install) and some electrical work. Taurus was punctual and professional and provided a very unique approach to managing a repair that saved me allot of money. We had to call back due to something we noticed after they left (minor) and they came back early next day to take care of issue. The fact that we had to have them come back would normally have me write a negative review but the fact that it was minor and more importantly the way in which they managed this was amazingly well handled. We will look to have them back for more when needed and are looking to have them qoute on interior and exterior painting. Having people come into your house is always concering and sometimes causes me not to call people but I will tell you that I had and have great comfort in having Taurus in our home and would not hesitate to have again.

I am a property manager and thus have a lot of experience with painters on owner's remodels, etc. Thus, when I went to hire a painter for my 4,000 square foot home I had very low expectations. I am used to contractors and repair people being on "island time," and not showing up when they say they will or completing the job quickly. First Class Painting completely surprised me! They FAR exceeded my expectations (even if I would have had normal or good expectations they would have exceeded them). They constantly communicated with me and then did what they said they were going to do. They were punctual and even fit me in to accommodate my tight schedule and finished quickly for me. They also did a fantastic job on the paint. Those would be my normal expectations for any painter though: do what you say you're going to do and do a good job. So here's how they far exceeded that! One day we came home from being at church and the painters had waited for us to get home so they could get some lunch but not leave the house unlocked (I hadn't even thought to give them a key or something). The owner of the company, Jordan, met us and told us they were heading out for a quick lunch but that they had set the table and cleaned up things a bit so we could have a nice Sunday lunch at home too. I laughed and was about to say, "Did you do my laundry too?" when I looked into my kitchen and saw that he actually had straightened my kitchen and set the table! I was shocked! I have five kids and we are right in the middle of a move, things have been in complete disarray but he had taken the time to put my dirty dishes in the sink and set the table and swept my floors. He said, "I would have mopped but I couldn't find one." Who does that? As a side note, Jordan actually has some really good design sense as well, I had had some centerpiece things out earlier for some staging and the way he staged the table was a way I hadn't thought of and I actually kept it that way afterwards because I liked it so much. One more time he totally went above and beyond (though I can think of five more but don't want this to be the longest post ever) was when Jordan's guys were finishing things up. Instead of sitting down and taking a rest from painting all day, Jordan came and found me. I was setting up the kids furniture and a brand new kids table I had bought was chipped from our move. He had some white paint with him and I asked him if he'd just dab a bit on the part that had been chunked out. He painted it and then said, "Let me just paint the whole thing so it all matches." Afterwards he said, "My guys aren't done and I have this paint, what else could I touch up?" Mind you, this was not part of the bid, this was touching up places in the house that we hadn't paid for them to paint. Last of all, they have said several times they would come back and touch up anything. After they were totally done they scheduled a time to come back just to touch up the areas that needed another coat. I just realized there was a patch area that we (the painters and myself) had forgotten needed one more coat when I was taking them through the little things that needed a touch up. I texted Jordan and he immediately called me back and apologized and set up a time to come back again. They live about 30-40 minutes away from me so this is not a quick thing but they obviously care about providing the best job possible! Okay, one more thing (really this is the last thing and I realized this became the longest post ever), there is a part on one of my walls that had needed repair and it isn't quite perfect yet despite them spending several hours on it. My husband said, "No big deal, we'll put a picture there." However, Jordan said, "Well some day you'll take down that picture and I want it to be as perfect as I can make it." So he is coming back to work on that again too. It totally pays to have an OCD painter with amazing design sense. In case you can't tell from my very long review, I would hire Jordan and his crew to do anything for me (I wish they did plumbing, electrical, maintenance work, etc. I'd hire them for all of it). He will be my painter from now on and I will recommend him to all my new owners.

Mike came out, took at look at the two small damaged parts of the drywall, briefly explained how he would go about doing it, and how long it would take then gave me an extremely fair quote. He came prepared and actually had everything he needed with him in his truck and offered to just do the job right then. I agreed to that and to the rate and he got the drywall done in just under and hour and it looked just like new, textured and everything. With a little paint, it will be like new all thanks to Mike's excellent work. I would recommend him highly, he was polite, honest, and fair and did a stand up job in a timely manner.

Rob is a hard worker and a professional painter. We had him paint an interior bedroom and bath and I couldn't be happier with his work. I've never seen anyone paint without using tape but Rob does it with absolute perfection! He also pressure washed our driveway and walk. He is a man of many talents as well as reliable and dependable. We will not hesitate to call him again. Thanks Rob!

Chris returned calls quickly when first contacted for inside painting services. He was professional and happy to answer all questions. We set an appointment for an estimate. When he arrived he was respectful of our space and gave a basic estimate of the cost and time of completion, promising to send a written estimate/contract within a few days. His written estimate was what we expected which told us he knew what he was doing. We set a date and time for him to begin the job which he thought could be completed in one day. He arrived on time and again was very respectful of our space. He worked very quietly around me and my dog. I had to leave for a few hours and had no worries about my home being in good hands. He ended up having to return the next day for a few hours. However, he cleaned up the space before he left. He did complete in just a few hours the next day and left our space in great condition. The only sign he was there was the beautiful paint job he left behind. My husband and I are extremely pleased with the result and continue to talk about how beautiful our home looks. I would definitely recommend, without reservation, Chris and Premier Painters for all your painting needs. You will not be disappointed.

He painted our drive, trimmed edges in accent color. paint our back concrete steps and two outside landing, washed our tile roof on boat dock, most importantly cleaned up all little messes made by getting the jobs done! Leon did a great job with our doors and mouldings for our remodel. He used quality paint that has been easy to maintain. He has a good eye for color. Proving very helpful in assisting us to pick the right colors for our walls, which saved us from our original, poor color choice.

Rudy, was a real professional. Pressure cleaning is only (1) of his areas of knowledge, Rudy also completed some minor gutter repair. In addition, a very normal after effect of a painted concrete lanai some paint chipping occurs. Not an issue, Rudy immediately asked if I had matching paint. Yes, I did. He touched up where required. I will call Rudy the next time I need my home pressure cleaned. Thank you. David

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
