There is nothing NOT to like about Les. He was the best value I found for our wedding, but that did not deter from the service he provided. He worked with us to build a playlist and delivered. He not only plays what you want, but sings, interacts with you crowd and will even provide Karaoke if you want. Everyone loved him. Thanks for making our special day even more so Les.

Joe was our officiant for our wedding . I was slightly nervous hiring someone I’ve never met before but I was assured after talking to Joe on the phone. He did a wonderful job for our ceremony and we had many complements from our wedding guests

Francesca was amazing! She was early, professional, and well prepared. We touched base many times in the time before the wedding to make sure we were always on the same page in the planning. She was so sweet during the event and handled our crowd well! We have had so many guests saying how lovely the violin was and how it adds that special touch to the wedding. We were so glad we crossed paths with this beautiful person and that she was able to share our special day with us!!

My fiance and I just booked DJ Don P for our wedding in October. We met him yesterday at a beach bar that he was playing and he is phenomenal! We are so excited for our beach wedding, especially now that we know our party will be out of control thanks to our DJ!!! Everyone is going to be dancing the night away :)

Jack was incredibly flexible helping us set up for the wedding itself, and adapting to our changing plans! He learned a special song for us, and make sure that the attention was never on himself but on the wedding itself. He is highly recommended!

he has played for years and is really good. He also has played in several different bands over the years. Another good quality is he is down to hearth and he has taught many people over years how to play.

Jack was friendly from the moment we started talking - easy to work and coordinate with - and put on a FANTASTIC show! He set the perfect atmosphere for our rooftop wedding weekend party, brought all of his own equipment, had it set up and ready to go and worked beyond well with our crowd! Thank you Jack for kicking off our awesome weekend!

The Scott Koffman Band recently played an outdoor street dance/food truck rally sponsored by our local merchant's association. It had rained all day, but in spite of that, Scott showed up on time and entertained everyone that showed up throughout the evening. The sound quality was great, choice of music was outstanding, and Scott is the ultimate professional. We'll be hiring them again!

Gulf Drive played at our friend's 50th wedding anniversary party of 20 people. They were fabulous. Billy plays the sax and two flutes - and sings. Dana also sings - they blend together extremely well. Very versatile and accomplished musicians, and easy to work with. They provided background music during cocktail hour and then dancing music later in the evening. We have heard a lot of groups before - they are right at the top.

I came to American rock school as an adult 38-year-old wanting to get better at playing guitar. I had taken lessons from five teachers over the previous four years. I thought that basic chords and scales were about all I would ever be able to play. I am not a musically talented person, I just enjoy music. American rock school has taught me to hammer on, pull off, bend strings, add tremolo, and play most every chord shape on the guitar. Now I can jam along with all my favorite songs which is something I thought I would never be able to do. The school also puts students together to form bands, it gives kids the opportunity to feel like a rockstar and play on stage, they even get some public events.

Tropigroove performed for my 40th wedding anniversary on May 28th, 2016. While we were eating, the band played lots of beautiful slows, kind of jazzy songs from their deep repertoire. After the speeches were over, the band took my guess back to the 70s playing some of the popular songs of that decade. The saxophonist leaves you with the sound to want to hear again, the young keyboard player plays with the crowd, he knows his craft. I recommend that you hire Tropigroove for your next occasion, whether you need the band for a cocktail or a dance party you'll get your money's worth. Jerry & Michelle

John Demas played at our daughter Nicole's wedding in Orlando's Peabody Hotel. His music is just outstanding to say the least. He had our guests dancing with his perfect selections! American and Greek tunes filled the ballroom until the evening ended. It was an evening we will always cherish thanks to you John!

Our guests are still talking about how they enjoyed the music at our St Patrick's Day party! Wright put on a great show, playing a great variety of music. He arrived on time and played for longer than we contracted for. He even led some of our guests in some line dancing which was a big hit. Thanks Wright!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

    • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
    • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
    • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
