Having to try to get a plumber, James K. of Clog Kings Plumbing and Drain Cleaning right away got in touch with me. I had applied with Thumbtak. com. James K. fixed the fixture in my toilet tank (9-28-18) and went over what he had done making sure everything was working and I understood what is done. James K. contacted me right away, I could tell by his voice that he was sincere, friendly and I felt his professional manner. I would recommend James K. and Clog Kings Plumbing and Drain company to anyone and I must say- Thumbtak did it again for me as I have used you before. Thank you; you are awesome. Norma Surdi

Very professional and addressed the issue. $199 seems a little steep for clearing the kitchen drain though.

We are pleased with all his work. Re-worked old washer water & drain pipes to come out of a modern box. Looks so much cleaner and is water tight! Also added a refrigerator water shut off valve. Kept us informed of his work status & got approval for his ideas of the fix. We are so pleased with his workmanship, knowledge and pricing, we are getting estimates for 3 other plumbing fixes we need. Quality work at a reasonable price.

My sink had been clogged with water for over a day. Jeff was able to fix my clogged sink by snaking it as well as my slow draining master bath. He was efficient, professional, and was able to have my issue resolved the very next day. I will definitely use him for future projects and issues. I would highly recommend him for anyone looking for a reliable handyman/plumber. Thank you Jeff again!

Shawn is the only plumber in the 27 years that I've lived in my current home that was able to completely correct all my water flow and drain problems. It's a 60-yr-old home and he replaced all lines to and from 2 washing machines, a laundry sink, kitchen sink, bathroom, and a dog bath. Highly recommend him, and plan on bringing him back to install another toilet for me as well.

I needed to have my sink drain replaced because of a bad leak. Drew sent Chris the plumber out and helped me replace the drain basket, which was a very difficult job and required all sorts of power equipment to saw off the old drain basket because it had been frozen from years of use and gunk build-up. The price for the job was fair and Chris was very efficient and professional. I was not surprised by any extra fees or added costs, and I was asked to initial by the cost and sign on the estimate for the job, assuring me that I would not have to pay for any extra work that I didn't need/want to have done. Thank you Poppy's Plumbing for your hard work and fairness! I will surely hire you again and recommend you to anybody who asks.

I had a clogged kitchen sink. I have had this issue, ongoing for several years. One person guaranteed that it was going to be fixed. He was one before Paul. Needless to say, they did not. Before that three others. One said it was because my septic tank needed to be cleaned. Did that. Then they said $350 to "blow" out my pipes. $350 an hour! NO!!!! Called in another plumber. He snaked it . 10 minutes later, he says he can't do it and to call someone with electric tools. SMH So in desperation, I finally after days of trying to baby it, and nothing working, I finally decided to try yet again to find, hopefully, what in my mind was a fair, reasonable and honest plumber, I happened onto Thumbtack. Thank you. I filled out the request, and not really expecting much to be honest. Within an hour I received a bid. A very very reasonable price from only one and it was Paul. He offered to come the next morning, which happened to be Labor Day. I did not answer for two days, and after receiving a reminder, I finally agreed, I am so happy that I did. Paul is exactly whaI had a clogged kitchen sink. I have had this issue, ongoing for several years. One person guaranteed that it was going to be fixed. He was one before Paul. Paul is exactly who I had hoped for...pleasant, professional, fair, reasonable and honest. He came in and started right away with the electric snake. He said he could feel it. He worked with it a while. Then he used the industrial water ram (I had to look it up...lol). All this time he is visually monitoring the flow of water. Waiting for it to whirlpool down the drain. Then, finally, he brought out the handy dandy old-fashioned plumbers' tool...yep, a plunger. He then worked with his body weight to plunge through the rest of the clog he'd broken with his other tools. Finally, THE WHIRLPOOL!! He ran the water several minutes. It has been great to wash dishes all at once. Not having to wash in intervals, waiting for the water to drain. If that wasn't enough, he offered to clean up the mess AND TO put everything back under the sink. I appreciated the offer, but told him that I would do it...happily. I will definitely recommend him to my family and friends. I RECOMMEND HIM TO ANY AND ALL THAT READ THIS REVIEW. THANK YOU PAUL!! THANK YOU THUMBTACK!

I hired Walfredo for 1 job originally. One job turned into 5 with another one pending. The original job was to change the ballasts in my kitchen flourescent lights. It turned out that I needed not only the ballasts changed but all 8 lights and the panels. The job was now looking like and easy $250. Walfredo made some suggestions and changed the lights out and saved me an easy $100.Wow! I now had him install grab-bars in my shower, install a new drain plug in my bath sink, and fix my bi-fold closet door. I have 2 more jobs pending with him. His lovely wife Janie works just as hard as his assistant. I am thrilled to have found Walfredo! He is a TOP NOTCH Handyman who can FIX ANYTHING! He is professional, precise, efficient, honest and THE BEST Handyman you could ever hope to hire! His price was very fair and he is most assured he will be hired again by me for more jobs.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

  • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
  • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
  • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.

Follow these additional tips for confidently hiring a plumber or other skilled professional.
