"I usually don't write reviews for services received. However I was so impressed with Joey I wanted to take just a minute and write a very short review. What a pleasant surprise. Joey arrived on time with all his supplies. We spoke about the massage and some of the medical issues I have. He ask me questions about my issues so as not to hurt me. He seemed to be very knowledgeable of the body and massage therapy. Joey gave me an excellent massage. He also checked with me frequently about the pressure. In summary this was a very good experience. He gave an excellent massage and had a pleasant personality. The price was more than fair and I will definitely use him again. I would also highly recommend him to others and to my friends. "

""Profoundly comforting" is a term I reserve to designate some of the very best of bodywork techniques. I have experienced this level of skill from Arnold's work. "You never touch a person just physically" said one of my early teachers. Arnold 's massage therapy exemplifies this, since I feel effects on my emotional, mental and energetic levels. I think this comes from Arnold's deep reservoir of spirituality which draws Presence into his gifted work. When combined with his excellent technical skills, I have experienced some awesome sessions! I look forward to my next appointment with Arnold. John Russell Licensed Massage Therapist since 1995."

"I went here for a deep tissue massage, because I was in so much paint could hardly move, The private rooms are very clean and somewhat dark to create ambiance. You have music on enjoy light conversation. The massage beds are very soft and well cushioned and it was one of the best massages I have received. She knew the exact spots that were bothering me and where to place pressure. I would definitely go back when in the area and stop in for a quick massage. Nick"

"I have experienced over 75 massages from numerous licensed massage therapists. Janine's technique is by far the best that I've ever experienced. She isolated areas of strain and tightness that I never realized were present. I have never had anyone stretch right areas with such precision. I have confidence that her technique will allow for improved flexibility. I only wish I had found Janine sooner. "

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
