FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I keep running logs of all the projects that I do, so I have a detailed archive of how long things take. I have been doing this so long, that I just match the job that I need to quote with something similar, that I have done in the past. This allows me to quote accurately and confidently. I do not charge for rendering, as that is something my computer does while I sleep. So long as the content does not change, I can quote a firm price and stick to it.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I learn new software, and updates to my current software, daily. I would say I spend 50% of my working hours (in-between projects) learning new technology and methods. I also belong to discussion groups that are populated with others in my field so that we may exchange ideas and pose problems for other to answer or advise.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was watching Siggraph videos, in the library of my job, as a computer test technician, during my lunch breaks, back in 1982. From that day, I decided I wanted to get into computer animation, but I had no idea how. Back then there were no 3D animation schools. I didn't actually find out till 1984, when I learned (self-taught) on a Cubicomp Picturemaker PC based animation platform. I never looked back.
