Jane was great. She took the time to get to know the dog as well as the owner. She was easy to work with the and the dog really responded to her corrections. She gave us some great tips to work on for a few weeks before we have another session. I would highly recommend her.

As the mom of two border collies, I want to make certain my kids are in the best of care. I have an older dog (13) and a rambunctious puppy (9 months). Danielle is responsible, kind, flexible, understands neurotic dog moms and based on the photos I receive from the dog park - fun! A five paw rating from our family!

The absolute best!! I have a special needs dog and Caren spent the night with him to keep him calm without my even requesting it. She was amazing, I'm so glad I found her and I've used a few dog sitters....I look no further, she's amazing. I wish there were more stars to give.

Erin is amazing! In just two sessions our dog is 90% house broken, has learned to sit and comes when called. Before Erin he would use our house as a bathroom and had absolutely no obedience. We are looking forward to continued work with her. She is awesome!!!

Very accommodating, a real pet lover. Our dog took a real liking to Stephanie and our dog really liked her as well. Stephanie posted videos and txt pictures during our time away from our dog and that really gave us a sense of ease that our girl was doing fine. It was all and all a good experience for our pet and for our family.

Marchelle and Gigi are awesome. They are friendly, very hard working and do an excellent job. They have been a tremendous pair helping me organize and clean my house to get it ready to sell. I look forward to seeing them every time. They love my dog and also bring him treats. I already feel I can call Marchelle and Gigi my friends. Donna

Dave has been fantastic! I recently adopted a small dog who had been abused and is very afraid of men, and Dave has already made significant progress with him after only two sessions. Dave teaches through positive reinforcement and the reward system, and my dog has already learned so much. It is really helpful that he is able to come to my home to do the training. He does a fantastic job of communicating to me what he is doing, so that I am also learning so much about how to communicate with my dog to keep the learning process going. We are currently doing an hour long session twice a week, but Dave gave me a few options that he thought would work best. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for someone to love and treat your four legged babies probably better than you do yourself, then THIS is who you want!!!! I currently have a dog and a cat but at the initial hiring of Maria, I also had another cat (my old man😊). While I was away she would send daily updates of each of her visits and the love she was giving to each of them was evident in the pictures and the updates she would send. This had not been asked of her, but she didn't want me worried about them being lonely or not getting their daily doses of love. My "old man" passed a couple of weeks after one of her visits and she had actually just randomly called to check on them. I shared with her the news and she shared in my grief as if it were her own fur baby. She sent the most beautiful card offering comfort during our time of grief. She will out of the blue just text to check on them even still now😊 Midget (dog) is a high maintenance fur baby...just needs that extra touch 🤣 She LOVES Maria. I can honestly say that if Maria was not able to be the one to care for my fur babies, I would rearrange my schedule so that I KNEW SHE would be the one loving on them❤️ She is the BEST in the area that I know of. Prompt and reliable and most of all trustworthy!!! She will DEFINITELY be hired again very soon😊 Midget is excited 😊😊😊

The service provided for my two dogs was great! My doggies, Hank and Holly, are very nervous when it comes to meeting new people but Mike was patient and super attentive to their needs. Now they both get really excited to see him! I totally felt at ease because he was so reliable, caring and easy to communicate with. I highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a dog walker do?

We all know our dogs love going on long, adventure-filled walks, but jobs and family and commuting can make it difficult to give them the leash time they deserve. You can hire a professional dog walker to make sure your furry friend gets adequate exercise and outdoor time each day. A professional dog walker may be an individual contractor or work for a dedicated dog-walking company. In either case, you want to make sure the pro has the appropriate insurance in case of an emergency. Some people opt to give the dog walker a key to their house; others to have them pick up the dog from the yard. Dog walking can happen as often as multiple times per day, or just a few times a month as needed. Here are some questions to ask when you are interviewing a new dog walker:

  • Will you or someone else be walking my dog?
  • Do you have a backup plan if you can’t make it for a scheduled walk?
  • Will you walk my dog by itself, or do you walk several dogs at once?
  • What are your different walk routes?
  • When will you pick up and drop off?
  • How will we communicate?
  • Do I have to commit to a schedule or are you flexible?
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
  • What’s your response plan if my dog gets injured or becomes sick?
  • How and how often do I pay you?
  • Do you offer package pricing if I buy multiple dog walks up front?

How much do dog walkers charge?

The cost of dog walking depends on several factors including length and frequency of dog walks, the number of dogs on the walk, distance to your house, and any additional services you request. The national average cost range for a dog walk is $10-$20, but that price will vary based on where you live in the country and the regional cost of living and doing business.

The longer the dog walk, the higher your costs will be. Dog walkers offer a range of walk lengths, from 15-minute potty breaks to long hikes of 120 minutes or more. For example, a dog walker may charge $15 for a 15-minute walk and $35 for a 35-minute walk. Requesting that your dog be the only animal on the walk will typically mean a higher cost than if you permit your dog to be walked in a pack of dogs. You may be able to get a discounted rate if you have more than one dog to be walked. For example, a professional dog walker may charge $28 for one dog or $33 for two dogs on a 60-minute walk. If you need additional help — like feeding the dogs or giving them medication — dog walkers may be able to provide this service at an additional fee. Dog walkers may charge higher rates for walking your dogs on holidays.
