I only have great things to say about both Shannon (the attorney) and Sherrie (the paralegal). Both are amazing at their work and very professional, while at the same time being friendly and easy to work with. I hired the kimball firm to take care of my divorce case. It's not finalized yet, but I can say I am very happy I hired them. Another very good thing is that Shannon's fees are quite reasonable compared to the outrageous sums other attorneys charge. As my divorce case progresses, I will update this review to give you a complete picture of working with the kimball law firm.

When I was looking for a new family law attorney, I checked out all the websites. I checked out a few of the top rated lawyers that was listed on www.avvo.com. I called them and honestly, I wasn't impressed. I called James and presented my issues to him and he mentioned things that the other lawyers that were supposedly top rated didn't even suggest. When you're spending money, you want someone for you verses being another number. James works with you and for you. He wants to please you. He knows his stuff. He knows family law. My first attorney in my divorce was not as proficient as James is. I wish I had James the first time so I wouldn't have to go through this again. Divorce, time sharing and child support are very stressful. James clearly knows the law and especially will make you happy with the decisions that you make. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.

We are just getting started but I feel very confident in Mr. Edison. Right away, he was very responsive and has taken the time to explain everything in detail so i could understand it. He was the first attorney that I had spoken with that completely saw things from my perspective. He also seems to tackle things differently than others and overall I just felt it was very refreshing. I look forward to moving forward with his experience and guidance in my divorce/custody case.

I would recommend Amber anytime. She was prompt with responding to me. Her consultations was very thorough and she was not looking at the clock. I was discouraged about attorneys after an encounter with another attorney which was 15 minutes late for our 30 minute appointment and yet rushed me 7 minutes into our consultation. Thanks Amber for changing my perspective about attorneys and for helping me.

However, after you meet with Mr. Gonzalez, I assure you that this concern will quickly fade away. I had legal issues and Ms. Buchholz was able to handle them quickly, efficiently, and discreetly. I was apprehensive initially by starting this process through the internet, but after speaking with her, I felt comfortable with her and her approach. I was a person to her, not just a paycheck, as is common with so many attorneys. I highly recommend her.

I had been scheduled for surgery and realized, 4 business days prior, that in the event of something going wrong, I needed an updated will. After checking a few Thumbtack choices' on line reviews, and getting two loose estimates from a couple of them, I chose SmithLaw. SmithLaw was not the lowest priced option, but I liked the range of options Chris Smith offered to get done what I needed in the time I needed it, and how he was able to navigate a few special considerations my will had to comprehend. I signed the new will yesterday and went through my surgery today with perfect confidence that if unforeseen circumstances arise, my wishes and intents are clearly and lawfully set forth for my two beautiful children. I will absolutely bring any future legal needs to SmithLaw, and feel very comfortable about recommending them to anyone with similar needs in Florida. Thanks to Chris Smith and his wonderful team.

Milton Acevedo and his associate attorney Felicia are both down to earth and eager to get results. They made me feel very comfortable. I was charged a retainer fee for 3 felony charges and 2 charges were not filed so Milton reduced my retainer fee by 50%. Morten is by far the best attorney I have had the pleasure of meeting and hiring. Not only is he professional, but will bend over backwards to get his clients results! There were many times I contacted him early morning and late nights to discuss my situation, and he always listened, extremely compassionate, and gave advice to protect me and my future. Looking back, I would not have made it without him. Worth ever dollar!

There is no attorney with more passion in helping her clients. She goes beyond at times of what is expected to make sure her clients issues are resolved. I can speak of my experience on an impossible loan modification she handled for me. The research and dealing with the plaintiff's attorney gave us the best possible results!! Her approach in not giving up on an issue puts her ahead of the pack as we all have many choices when selecting an attorney. Her explanation in what happened with the housing implosion is second to none. We owe Linda the highest accolades when it comes to knowing her business and taking care of it!! Thanks again Linda for your passion in helping us modify our loan and also settling with our junior lien!! Robert

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse

How much does it cost to have a living will?

Either a family attorney or an estate, or wills, attorney can help you prepare a living will, either as part of your general estate planning or as an individual document. The cost typically ranges from $250 to $500, depending on your attorney’s fees; some charge by the hour, while others have a flat rate for writing a living will. Some states require living wills to be notarized, which adds an average of $5 to $15. In a living will — also called an advanced healthcare directive — you specify whether you want to be kept on life support if you become terminally ill or lapse into a persistent vegetative state. You can also answer other important questions in a living will like your preferences for tube feeding, artificial hydration and pain medication in situations when you cannot communicate your wishes on your own.

How do you find a good lawyer for wills?

Estate planning is an important part of financial planning, so it’s important to find the right attorney to prepare your will. Although most family attorneys can put together a basic will, you may want one who specializes in wills and estate planning, especially if you have a lot of assets or a dependent to take care of. You may need an attorney who has expertise in planning and executing trusts and a background in taxes. Ask how the attorney charges; some charge by the hour, others have a set fee for writing wills, and some charge a percentage of the total value of the estate. Make a list of several potential wills attorneys to interview. Make sure you make a strong personal connection with your attorney — you need to be comfortable telling him or her personal, confidential information about your life, and you need to feel that the attorney is committed to solving any problems that may arise while writing your will. Also find out how long the attorney has practiced estate law and whether he or she has handled wills similar to yours.

How much should an estate plan cost?

The cost of an estate plan depends largely on the number of parts it includes and the complexity of the documents. The most basic estate plan is simply a will, but it may also include designating power of attorney or a health care proxy to another person, writing a living will, or making a HIPAA authorization. The average national cost to make an estate plan ranges from $350 to $900, but can cost much more in complicated situations. For example, an estate attorney may charge only $900 to prepare a basic will providing outright distribution — meaning that property and assets are distributed upon death. Writing a more complicated will and holding assets in trusts can cost $3,000, or more. The process of creating an estate plan generally takes two to four weeks, starting with the initial consultation with the wills attorney to identify areas of concern in order to design an estate plan that fits your goals and budget. Once an estate plan is written, the attorney meets with the clients, a notary, and two neutral witnesses to review and sign the plan and associated documents.
